Resident Evil 5 Exclusive Time Frame? No Way

Yes Microsoft could be in a position to sell a "few" more systems. But they would shell out a pretty penny for it. Ask yourself, is it worth it for them? The answer is clearly no. Look at RE4 for the Nintendo Gamecube. If you forgot, Nintendo and Capcom also had a time frame before the PS2 version. Did that even come close to saving the cube from ending up being in third place in the console wars? Of course not".

I dunno, if it does happen its a great move for Microsoft but Capcom once again screws their Japanese fans for some cold hard cash. The best way to get money on a big game is for a simultaneous worldwide release. IMO that is what capcom should be aiming for and not accepting bribes for timed exclusivity.

Not only will the screw the Japanese gamers, they will also anger the Playstation Fans every more. If Capcom is smart, they will not have a time exclusive, unless MS is paying them like a 100 million dollars or something. They will be loosing money from PS3 copy being sold. A lot of Playstation fan will take this personal, and don't buy their game. If Capcom does have a time exclusive with MS, they will only hurting themselves in the future.

360 can have this overated game. The game is just another "GTA4". RE5 looks like an upgrade from RE4 that's it. I expect more from a year 2009 title than a robotic 18-inch arms Chris Redfield. So far Capcom this generation is turning into EA it's always money first and customers 2nd. Capcom has only published good games this generation but none are great.

I hope the huge announcement at E3 is Resident Evil 5 for the Wii. I'm looking forward to the game on PS3/Xbox360 but the controls in Resident Evil 4 were amazing. With that said, I don't see why they can't use the Resident Evil 4 engine. I also don't mind owning a couple versions of the same game if I have to wait for the better version to come out(ex- Resident Evil 4 for PS2 and Wii, also Ninja Gaiden Black, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma).

For those that don't know,the gameplay mechanics in Gears of War are VERY similar to Resident Evil 4.Now,I personally believe Microsoft may indeed be going after Resi 5 for this very same reason,so for those wondering why Microsoft would spend a bucketload of cash on this franchise,they're betting on the gameplay mechanics wooing GeOW fans over to it.

Capcom Corporate Officer and VP of Strategic Planning and BIZ Dev, Christian Svensson, issued two separate comments concerning the rumored “exclusive MS timed release” on the official Capcom blog which confirm my prediction and hopefully debunk the exclusive release rumor.

Microsoft doesn't "control" when RE5 will be released or which platforms it will be released on. That's Capcom's call. Microsoft is doing what it can to bite into Sony's market share, which I personally don't like (we had to wait 6 months longer to get GTA IV because Microsoft just HAD to have it at the same time as the PS3), but is far from illegal.

A couple of things;

One, don't be so quick to dismiss Resident Evil 5 as junk, because if this doesn't turn out to be true you're going to look pretty stupid when you drool over it in a couple of months time.

Two, The GTAIV DLC did work, that's probably why the Xbox360 version is outselling the PS3 version so healthily. It didn't sell MS hardware sure, but it didn't give the PS3 a boost either. When it comes to huge, traditionally Sony, franchises a draw is as good as a win for MS.

are they god? console makers make money on hardware and make lots of royalties on games sold... so, why should the console maker make all the money if they are into this together? The 360 version is probably ready now, the PS3 one playing catch up. This will change of course but the fact that the PC is its first port of call makes sense. If the PS3 plays catch up they will have extra stuff just like RE4 on PS2. Xbox is probably only getting it because of Nintendos Wii not being powerful enough for a similar version. Capcom will hug the money but at least they do what they say unlike other shady developers who never end up producing anything but lies. MS might get this time exclusive and eventually follow the Game Cube path as well. MS will do more harm to themselves if they go this route and here are my reasons.

1. MS will pay millions to compensate Capcom for a game everyone knows will eventually come out for the PS3.

2. It only shows how desperate they are and how they are loosing their cool by relying on time exclusive to sustain their fight in this console war. It gives the public the impression that they have run out of ammo and are now only relying on ineffective time exclusive deals with non really planned for the upcoming years. I really do wonder what they are going to do to counter GT5,FF13,GOW3 etc next year and beyond. More time exclusive deals of multiplat game?.

3. It won't be a big blow for the PS3 because the PS3 gamelineup is chock full of highly anticipated exclusive and multi-plats for this year and beyond. This time-exclusive deal if it eventuate would be a big blow if there aren't that many PS3 games in coming months/years but this is not so the case.

MS should be smart enough to understand this and save their money to create their own new IP's that will really give them ammo for next time. Getting a RE5 time-exclusive deal will not stop the PS3 juggernaut that has began with MGS4 that will eventually dominate this gen. A time exclusive will be just a band-aid solution and it will not stop the PS3 from dominating like how Nin tried to stop PS2 dominating with their RE4 time-exclusive deal.

Sorry, but I don't consider Resident Evil 5 a "System Seller" game title. I mean, if GTA4 didn't move as many systems as people expected, how the heck could Resident Evil 5 do any better when it comes to selling systems?

Even if the rumors are true and Microsoft does lock up Resident Evil 5 for a certain time frame, it will not sell a lot of 360 systems period. I haven't played any of the Resident Evil games, but I have been a little interested in Resident Evil 5. If the game comes out on the 360 first, I wont care that much because I'm not a fan of the series. As long as it comes out sometime in 2009 for the PS3, I'm happy.

I don't believe the Rumors about Microsoft locking up Resident Evil 5 for a certain time frame though.

Regarding your comments I do still think MS wipes the floor with all other companies when it comes to Marketing and Development so there is a much better chance they would benefit from a timed exclusive. yes after Halo 3 yes they are indeed are better marketers but it won't changed the fact that a time exclusive will only delay the release on the PS3 nor will it change the fact that the PS3 will still have way more exclusive than MS in coming months,years. It will almost be summer of 2009 when this game is released. It would have mattered if the game was coming out in the next few months but its not. There are nothing but awesome games coming out from the End of August till summer next year. There are gonna be so many freaking good games out that noone, even rich people wont beable to play them all.

I don't care either way. I own a 360 and soon a PS3. I still prefer games for my 360 because of achievements. Also, I know Sony will have "trophies" however I have a gamerscore of over 10,000 on 360. I'd hate to have to start with a blank slate with the trophy implementation.

DMC4 is DMC3 reskinned with a few extra things sprinkled on top, SF4 looks like SF2 with new characters and graphics and Res5 looks like a repainted Res4 with something new sprinkled on. Lost Planet always looked like @ss, Dead Rising is the only good thing i've saw from them lately. Also they got rid of Clover studios. I don't know but the quality expectation from Capcom games have went down in my eyes.

Rare, Lionhead and its Own Internal set of IPS is all Microsoft’s mate. They have just as many IPs and Genres as both MS and Nintendo (Possibly more than most) and have used the Third parties as developers such as Bizarre for PGR. That’s a smarter move financially and also helped Bizarre become a commodity. They are an all round better model mate. The brand isn't as strong as Play station, yet... but it should get there as their momentum is growing.

The reason why some of us are saying that MS is ruining the gaming industry with this sort of practice is because no gamers stand to gain from this pratice. For example. The x360 owners will gain nothing out of this except for the fanboys which would love this sort of things to happen to spite the others from the other camp but really who does benefit?. It's good choices for Capcom, and great for 360 owners. There's no love lost there. But there's been 2 games from Capcom that i was looking forward to alot. 1 being DMC4 which turned out to be like i said above a reskinned DMC3. I felt a bit slighted i guess i got my hopes up to much, but it was underwelming. Sure it's still a good game but i wanted more than just DMC3 all over again. SF4 when it was first announced i was soooo pumped for it.

Then i seen the characters faces which look a wee bit too goofy for my liking. Then i see no returning SF3 characters (announced so far) along with no Akuma. The gameplay to me looks so far like a step back from SF3 and looks entirely too much like SF2. I like SF2 as much as the next old arcade going gamer but after SF3 i can't go back to it and SF4 seems to be going back to that. Res5 looks like a reskinned Res4. I liked Res4 but again i don't want to see the same freaking thing. It's not so much of sour grapes for their business decisions it's what they are in the industry to do, make money.

But i don't know ever since they got rid of Clover Studio's it seems like the originality and spunk has left some of their older series. It seems like to me they haven't really seemed to want to take the extra step on building on the foundation of some of their older games and just choosing more or less to reskin them. Just my outlook on this entire thing of course.

to no hype or talk about this game from PS3 owners from what i have observed sofar. The only big time there was talk about is was when someone said it was a raceist game. I am sure its a big franchise but its is not as important as the likes of MGS4, FF13 or GT5 to PS3 fans in general.

As for loyalty. It is important. Some of us are more loyal to devs than consoles makers and Capcom should remember which set of fans got them there where they are at the moment. I know i sound like a fanboy but i will support a Capcom boycott if this comes true. Its about time as PS gamers we show Capcom who they work for. B) there is an ongoing thread at the Capcom website where PS3 fanboys are whining up and down about this rumor all day and Capcom has not responded.

It's still a rumor. However, who says it will just be a couple months. timed exclusives can be up to a year to a year and a half like Bioshock. they are very rarely a couple months if the console company is paying a good sum of money.

Also, I don't expect anyone to run out and buy a 360 just because RE5 is a timed exclusive. but taken with a tandem of all the other exclusive JRPGs and AAA titles it could save a lot of people time from flaming up N4G and signing useless petitions if they just bought a 360. it's more of a cumulative thing. consoles develop reputations. Capcom has always supported the platform they feel is leading the way when it comes to revenue and industry power/sopport plus console sales totals.

Why on earth would Capcom give Sony all the media and trailers to let the PSN users download and watch, only to turn around and shrug all the money they would make from a multiple console release, including the gamers on PS3 that are hyped for this title? I think for a timed exclusive to be truly effective, people can't know that it's a TIMED exclusive. Then again, RE4 was the first RE with the much better over-the-shoulder control scheme, compared to earlier RE's. I'm guessing that sales of RE5 will eclipse those of RE4. It hard to say how effective a timed RE5 exclusive would really be.

If it is timed then I say great for those who get it early but that shouldnt stop the others from getting it when it does come out. I have read some posts that sound just plain childish. Saying things like "I wont buy it if it is timed" or "boycot capcom". That is just spite talking.

If you are a real gamer then you are in it for the games. It shouldnt matter having to wait to get something that others are getting before you. I dont feel spiteful that I dont have a PS3 or a copy of MGS4. I know that one day I will so I take it in stride.
