Resident Evil 5 Exclusive Time Frame? No Way

Ripten writes: "If you haven't heard by now, rumors are starting to fly around concerning Resident Evil 5 and an announcement at E3. The biggest (likely nothing more than the result of Xbox Fanboys) is that RE 5 will have some sort of exclusive time frame for the Xbox 360. Meaning PS3 owners will have to wait months if not years.

Sounds 100% bogus to me. Capcom did put on paper that there will be a "huge" announcement regarding their beloved Resident Evil Franchise, however if there was some sort of time frame, what does Capcom or Microsoft earn?

Yes Microsoft could be in a position to sell a "few" more systems. But they would shell out a pretty penny for it. Ask yourself, is it worth it for them? The answer is clearly no. Look at RE4 for the Nintendo Gamecube. If you forgot, Nintendo and Capcom also had a time frame before the PS2 version. Did that even come close to saving the cube from ending up being in third place in the console wars? Of course not".

I dunno, if it does happen its a great move for Microsoft but Capcom once again screws their Japanese fans for some cold hard cash. The best way to get money on a big game is for a simultaneous worldwide release. IMO that is what capcom should be aiming for and not accepting bribes for timed exclusivity.

TheHater5789d ago

Not only will the screw the Japanese gamers, they will also anger the Playstation Fans every more. If Capcom is smart, they will not have a time exclusive, unless MS is paying them like a 100 million dollars or something. They will be loosing money from PS3 copy being sold. A lot of Playstation fan will take this personal, and don't buy their game. If Capcom does have a time exclusive with MS, they will only hurting themselves in the future.

sonarus5789d ago

Capcom is overrated. I thought dead rising was the best game ever and i thought lost planet was the best looking game ever. Both remain unfinished and i almost always finish my games even if they are crap. I beat spider man 3 for crying out loud

TheHater5789d ago

Dead Rising was pretty fun, but I thought it was overrated. I personally HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE Lost Planet. That game should have stayed lost.

Lifendz5789d ago

Was it worth making a system with a last-gen storage format? Was it worth it to make a system w/o a standard HDD? Was it worth paying for DLC for GTA IV that isn't coming anytime soon? I could go on and on? Was it worth staying in the gaming business when your gaming division has yet to turn a profit?

mikeslemonade5789d ago (Edited 5789d ago )

360 can have this overated game. The game is just another "GTA4". RE5 looks like an upgrade from RE4 that's it. I expect more from a year 2009 title than a robotic 18-inch arms Chris Redfield. So far Capcom this generation is turning into EA it's always money first and customers 2nd. Capcom has only published good games this generation but none are great.

jwatt5789d ago

Ok lets be serious, that resident evil looks sick, y'all can say those other games are overrated but don't say that for RE5 even if it could be time exclusive.

dragunrising5789d ago (Edited 5789d ago )

I hope the huge announcement at E3 is Resident Evil 5 for the Wii. I'm looking forward to the game on PS3/Xbox360 but the controls in Resident Evil 4 were amazing. With that said, I don't see why they can't use the Resident Evil 4 engine. I also don't mind owning a couple versions of the same game if I have to wait for the better version to come out(ex- Resident Evil 4 for PS2 and Wii, also Ninja Gaiden Black, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma).

Condoleezza Rice5789d ago

For those that don't know, the gameplay mechanics in Gears of War are VERY similar to Resident Evil 4.Now,I personally believe Microsoft may indeed be going after Resi 5 for this very same reason,so for those wondering why Microsoft would spend a bucketload of cash on this franchise, they're betting on the gameplay mechanics wooing GeOW fans over to it.

Personally,I think Resi 5 looks like it plays too similar to Resi 4,not a bad thing, just a worrying observation.

mikeslemonade5789d ago

You guys hyped about the RE5 trailer need to look more closely. All the gameplay looked spliced and the gameplay at most ran 1 or 2 seconds each time. Now if we saw the gameplay for 10 seconds the zombies would look so robotic. I expect more from a 2009 title.

joydestroy5789d ago

seriously. RE5 looks totally sick. i don't own any of the previous iterations, though i've played RE4, but this will be a day 1 purchase.

Metal Gear Solid5789d ago

Justice!

Sony started the practice of paying for exclusives back in 1996 for Tomb Raider 2, after the first was a success. Sony have been doing this for 12 years and now it's coming back to bite them in the ass.

znu5789d ago (Edited 5789d ago )

congrats
your the guy who got the handle Metal Gear Solid

high expectations from you (considering how kickass your game was)

better not screw it up ;)

On Topic

Capcom games have never been a strong point for me,but RE5 looks good

let's hope they don't screw us over

ThanatosDMC5789d ago

IMO, Devil May Cry 1 and 3 were the best games. 2 and 4 are worthless trash that should have never existed.

Yes, i still hate Nero and Lucia for that matter.

Update 6/19:
Capcom Corporate Officer and VP of Strategic Planning and BIZ Dev, Christian Svensson, issued two separate comments concerning the rumored “exclusive MS timed release” on the official Capcom blog which confirm my prediction and hopefully debunk the exclusive release rumor.

The first comment was made on Jun 18, 2008 - 11:13PM stating:

“The assertion is false. RE5 is a multiplatform release that fits with our oft-stated crossplatform strategy.”

The second comment was made on Jun 19, 2008 - 09:32AM stating:

For the avoidance of doubt… simultaneous release.

GameDev5788d ago

to the 360 first, that is an absolute guarantee that the game will come nowhere near its target renders.

TheHater5789d ago

this is capcom we are talking about here. Don't get your hopes up. Personally I think this might be a time exclusive on the 360.
Will I be surprise? NO.

DJtyler5789d ago

Timed exclusives do not sell systems. I repeat this will not help MS sell any 360s it just annoys the crap out of PS3 owners.

Bzone245789d ago (Edited 5789d ago )

"Annoys the crap out of ps3 owners"

That would be worth it to me. lol

juuken5789d ago (Edited 5789d ago )

Ah, but that's what MS wants to do! They're starting to monopolize the gaming industry!

Bladestar, believe what you want to believe. Defend MS to the last dying breath for all I care. But it won't change the fact that THEY ARE starting to monopolize the gaming industry. They're throwing money left to right to 3rd party developers because they know they have an even weaker lineup than they did in 2007. Don't get me wrong, they still have some good games coming, but Sony's lineup overshadows them.

Bladestar5789d ago (Edited 5789d ago )

"it just annoys the crap out of PS3 owners." That's worth every penny... hell.. please microsoft drop $200 mil!

"monopolize"... sore loser favorite word... all three companies (Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft) have enough money and resources to make a great console... please stop the the whole monopoly crap... the games buddy.. not monopoly will be what would make microsoft be on top if Nintendo and Sony don't get their priority straight. No one is asking sony to spend so much money on blu-ray intead of the games... causing them to cancel game projects... and borrow money..

RememberThe3575789d ago (Edited 5789d ago )

Are you serious? How much schooling have you had? Economically this would be a waist of money for them. This game will not move units. We saw it with the Gamecube and RE4. There would be no reason for them to spend the money. If they were to make it exclusive than thats another story, but we're talking about a timed exclusive here. It wouldn't be very smart of them. However, they're known for throwing money the wrong way so I could totally see this happening.

And you talk about Sony and Nintendo Like they're the ones with slowing sales and a poor line '08 line up. MS needs to get they're sh*t together cause my 360 is getting little to no use anymore... I understand that you love your self some MS but come on the writings on the wall. MS needs to build a little more hype around they're big white box. Hopefully we'll see some kick ass stuff at E3.

UrbanJabroni5789d ago

_waste_

Seriously, if you are going to question someone's intelligence, maybe you should proofread your own post?

Willio5789d ago

ouch to proofread. But if there was a time exclusive on RE5, PS3 owners might sadly get accustomed to delays due to MS's continuous bribery. If this becomes a norm, it will help MS in the long run. MS does have the most available cash at disposal to spend.

gogators5789d ago

it still doesn't make much sense to sign timed exclusives.

Black_Jack5789d ago (Edited 5789d ago )

a timed exclusive on either console wont help any gamers what so ever. the only people benifitting will be microsoft and thats moneywise. so if anyone says yeah wooh great xbox360 timed exclusive, then you must be a fanboy because for me id want it to released accross all platforms so that everyone of my friends whether they be using an xbox360 or a ps3 will be able to enjoy it with me.

this is purely bad news. nothing good about it, and for id say there is no real benefit for gamers in general by clinching this deal.

god damn business tactics..

edit: wtf i lost a bubble!?!

capcom its sony friend

if they say yes to m$ they r going to lose so many fans in the ps3

TheHater5789d ago

Capcom isn't Sony friend. The are now MS butt buddy

ok, sony show 2 capcom some love ($_$)

Capcom goes where the money takes them. They're business people, they have no loyalty.

avacadosnorkel5789d ago

would grant MS exclusivity for free.

Lol. In your "world of make believe" probably.

Mugen Souls Retro Review – Sexy Demon Space Adventure

Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker4h ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing694h ago(Edited 4h ago)

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto10h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger889h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).
