3 Disappointing And Overhyped New AAA IPs of 2014 So Far, Fails To Deliver on Huge Promises

GP: Holiday Season 2014 is just around the corner, and we have some great games lined up to arrive on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and last-gen consoles, but in this feature article I won't be talking about what's coming in next three to four months, rather I would take a look back and see what has really happened in the past eight months. There are few games which were expected to be "Next Big Thing" in that particular genre but failed to deliver on all the promises. This feature is about three Overhyped new AAA IPs of 2014 which failed to delivered.

Thatguy-3103931d ago

I think once these so called "Next Gen" games start appearing in the older consoles the promises will be met. Next year should be a better year.

Titanfall, Watch Dogs and Destiny? How original. Meanwhile millions of people are enjoying those games

user55757083930d ago

this article is either a troll or just ignorant. if you really think these games are bad then break it down on an intellectual level.

people love to ride the hate bandwagon. i have destiny and watch dogs and they're solid games and I'm having fun playing them and that's what matters.

I'm guessing the hater who wrote this article has played these games at most 2 hours a piece and made his judgements. The best thing to do is ignore the hate and experience for yourself because everyone I know that is currently playing destiny is enjoying it.

MrSwankSinatra3931d ago (Edited 3931d ago )

Titanfall - Okay

WATCH_DOGS - Good, but not great.

Destiny - Above average

These games may have been over-hyped, but this is what happens when games are heavily marketed. People need to keep leveled expectations.

ritsuka6663930d ago (Edited 3930d ago )

These games may have been over-hyped''

Eh, really funny you use a avatar of another overhyped game ( final fantasy) Hypocrisy much?

MrSwankSinatra3930d ago

So by looking at my avatar you automatically assume that i'm overhyped for a game. paranoid much?

ritsuka6663930d ago (Edited 3930d ago )

Just look in you comment history, you're always praising this game. You are very hypocrite dude.

MrSwankSinatra3930d ago (Edited 3930d ago )

Do you know the difference between being excited and being overly hyped? In any case, Please show me where I'm constantly praising the game? I made two comments about a discussion over the battle system and two others posting where I was expressing my excitement. You don't even have any sense as to what you're saying at all. I guess going by your logic no one should get excited for anything otherwise it's over-hyping?

Zero-One3930d ago

There's nothing wrong with getting excited over a certain game, just know what you're getting into and stop being such an overly-entitled twat.

Stop listening to hype. Problem solved.

Gamerbeyond3930d ago (Edited 3930d ago )

the only thing the publishers care about is money and revenue and all 3 of these games have made their publishers hundreds of millions of dollars and that is success for them.

im guessing those that disagree are bad at math.

titanfall - 2million sales
watchdogs - 4million
destiny - 2.4 million

$60 x 2,000,000 = $120million minimum, sorry you hate math, but im right.

RebelWAC3930d ago

If you really want to do the math then you need to consider the cost for staff, production, distribution, marketing etc... Just saying

Foehammer3930d ago (Edited 3930d ago )

Well said

And those are just the retail copies, no digital downloads. TF figure is for just one platform too.

AndrewLB3930d ago

Correction...

Titanfall- 3.39 million*
Watch Dogs- 5.8 million*
(*physical sales. Doesn't include digital.)

Activision announced they pulled in $350 million in 5 days for Destiny.

@Gamerbeyond

In your world taxes don't exist ? Or maybe royalties ?

"$60 x 2,000,000 = $120million minimum"

"Minimum" ? If they really 2 mil, they didn't make 120mil.

Foehammer3930d ago

Don't forget digital downloads, that figure could be double.

Why does everyone keep forcing Titanfall in all the time? No one can talk about Destiny without trying to bring down Titanfall. Can't Destiny stink on its own? Titanfall got an 86 on metacritic and amazing reviews across the board. It did exactly what it promised perfectly. Watch Dogs and Destiny did not.

Remy_Chaos3930d ago

Despite Titanfall's reviews, it falls exactly into one of Destiny's criticisms, lack of content, which was mostly ignored by critics and especially fanboys. Many find Titanfall fun and that's alright, just know that many also find Destiny fun. Most critics definitely had other motives to score Destiny in such a way.

MeliMel3930d ago

Yeah but we also knew ahead of release what TF was. Online multiplayer mayhem... And to me it wasnt as overhyped as Destiny and Watchdogs.

Also hard to believe that all those critics gave underwhelming Destiny reviews just because. They all cant be wrong.

ALLWRONG3930d ago

Titanfall is usually thrown in by the fanbase who doesn't get to play Titanfall.

Tedakin3930d ago

I think it's cause Titanfall was MS's big game of the year, Destiny was Sony's (in spite of being on the direct competition) and one got great reviews and to a lot of people met the hype, the other is getting absolutely railed. So they have to try to bring down a 6 month old game too to make themselves feel better.

BattleTorn3930d ago

/everyone who dislikes it hasn't played it/

...denial much?

annoyedgamer3930d ago (Edited 3930d ago )

Titanfall suffers like all games that have EA's name on it, lack of content. The core is good but the content lack is appalling. I bought the game by the way.

BattleTorn3930d ago

To each his own.

I ended up feeling extremely underwhelmed when I bought Titanfall, because I already tons of the beta and I never got the excitement back.

Destiny - I liked the beta also, but I also felt excited for the retail version, as it was more of what I wanted.

Watch_Dogs, I simply should've waited on to get cheaper
