3 Disappointing And Overhyped New AAA IPs of 2014 So Far, Fails To Deliver on Huge Promises

GP: Holiday Season 2014 is just around the corner, and we have some great games lined up to arrive on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and last-gen consoles, but in this feature article I won't be talking about what's coming in next three to four months, rather I would take a look back and see what has really happened in the past eight months. There are few games which were expected to be "Next Big Thing" in that particular genre but failed to deliver on all the promises. This feature is about three Overhyped new AAA IPs of 2014 which failed to delivered.

I think once these so called "Next Gen" games start appearing in the older consoles the promises will be met. Next year should be a better year.

people love to ride the hate bandwagon. i have destiny and watch dogs and they're solid games and I'm having fun playing them and that's what matters.

I'm guessing the hater who wrote this article has played these games at most 2 hours a piece and made his judgements. The best thing to do is ignore the hate and experience for yourself because everyone I know that is currently playing destiny is enjoying it.

the only thing the publishers care about is money and revenue and all 3 of these games have made their publishers hundreds of millions of dollars and that is success for them.

Why does everyone keep forcing Titanfall in all the time? No one can talk about Destiny without trying to bring down Titanfall. Can't Destiny stink on its own? Titanfall got an 86 on metacritic and amazing reviews across the board. It did exactly what it promised perfectly. Watch Dogs and Destiny did not.

Despite Titanfall's reviews, it falls exactly into one of Destiny's criticisms, lack of content, which was mostly ignored by critics and especially fanboys. Many find Titanfall fun and that's alright, just know that many also find Destiny fun. Most critics definitely had other motives to score Destiny in such a way.

I think it's cause Titanfall was MS's big game of the year, Destiny was Sony's (in spite of being on the direct competition) and one got great reviews and to a lot of people met the hype, the other is getting absolutely railed. So they have to try to bring down a 6 month old game too to make themselves feel better.

I ended up feeling extremely underwhelmed when I bought Titanfall, because I already tons of the beta and I never got the excitement back.

Destiny - I liked the beta also, but I also felt excited for the retail version, as it was more of what I wanted.

Titanfall- good gameplay, barebones content, stupid AIs ruined it.

Destiny- Solid Game overall, but no story, and poorly designed at times.

Watch Dogs- Not a bad game, but its no GTA and has some serious flaws.

Theyre new franchises so I think the sequels will be MUCH better.

Umm... perhaps you missed it, but every review site waited multiple days before releasing their reviews for the exact same reason you claim they didn't do.

btw.. review sites got the game before it was launched to the public. So they had plenty of time to make accurate reviews.

I think that most people here on N4G, was not thinking these 3 games were going to be ground breaking . They need to hype these games up, for the people who do not go to gaming sites . WOLFENSTEIN NEW ORDER got very high review scores , but only sold 1 million and half copies, due to to the fact, they did not heavily promote WOLFENSTEIN NEW ORDER.

I played destiny, finished the campaign, was very bored with the end game replaying the same strikes over and over just to get rewarded with nothing I need, traded it in ar gamestop and got 43 bucks for it. I only paid 50 so I'd say I got my seven bucks worth out of it. So disappointed with the game though. I've learned a valuable lesson about hype and falling for it. Will be very careful about preordering from now.

I was playing with friends. I did play high level strikes and the daily heroic mission and weekly strike. There was alot about the game I was unhappy with like playing the same places over and over among other stuff. I finished the story like I said so I got my money's worth and got a good value on my trade in. Until shadow of mordor comes out I am having way more fun playing diablo 3 than i did with Destiny. That's my experience. I know what I like and I didn't like Destiny. You can play it and I hope you enjoy it but it wasn't for me.

Titanfall 8 doesn't have a story, lacking weapons for both Titans and pilots, lacking chassis for Titans. The game is still an enjoyable enough game to grant an above average score.

Destiny 9 story not that interesting, and wait time i between planets is a bit long, cut scenes should be able to skip. The mechanics of the game are perfect, the graphics look great, the environments look amazing and it's just fun to play.

Watchdogs 5 well open world games involving real environments just boring. Who cares if a map is the size of America. If I can't enter every building or store or take what I want. What is the point. It's an empty shell just like the GTA series. If I wanted real life simulators I'd play Sims.

There are still no must have games for this new generation. I have yet to upgrade (outside of a WiiU for the kids). Neither XBO, or PS4 have any games that would make me line up to buy a new system.

Sad really. Yeah there are some fun games I am sure, but nothing I must play.

The fact that destiny is the closest thing that the PS4 and PS3 will have to Halo makes me satisfied with the game. I don't care that it is not the best game in the world, it manages to deliver the fix I want and thats what matters to me.

Watchdogs and Destiny I agree with. I'm still playing Destiny and will probably continue for a little longer but I doubt Ill return to it in a month or so. Watchdogs didn't hold my interest at all. Probably played it for 3 hours total. Titanfall on the other hand I absolutely love and still play 2 or 3 matches a night

Titanfail and Destiny were supposed to be game changers, so in that regard they failed miserably. Had they been released without much hype like Murdered Soul Suspect, they would have scored better. Watchdogs was in development for a long time and was shown in conferences and shows for 2 years that it got overexposed, but I don't remember anyone saying it was going to be the next big hit when it didn't offer anything new. Honestly, I think Wolfenstein has been the best game so far this year and it was an old school game.

I am pretty disappointed with this new generation so far, but its only been 10 months. Theres already a good number of games coming out within the next few months that could still make 2014 a decent year. Driveclub, Evil Within, etc.

Iv played all 3 and Titanfall is by far my favourite out of the 3 easily. TF gameplay has even made COD follow the same direction, that alone says enough. As for Destiny, it isn't bad just nothing special while Watchdogs to me was my least favourite out of the 3. I would replace TF with Infamous Second Son as that game was hyped the same if not more then TF. I can still remember people saying its going to out sell TF and on a console that has double the sales, ended up with TF selling double that of ISS.. and its still selling today.
