Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Dev Not Worried About Titanfall Ripoff Claims

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare developer defends claims on Twitter that it's a Titanfall ripoff.

nicksetzer13507d ago (Edited 3507d ago )

Honestly for me it is kind of off putting, because I feel titanfall did it better, mechanically. I personally would prefer just waiting for titanfall 2 which will hopefully be more content rich and more modes. (As that was the big sting for the first) This new COD looks like they added those features last minute after seeing titanfall. (They just don't seem super polished) Who knows though, I have still yet to play Advanced Waefare yet, so I'll wait to decide, but as it stands I am a bit unsure.

"This new COD looks like they added those features last minute after seeing titanfall" - It's been in development for three years so that's unlikely.

Titanfall started development in the same year -

"Respawn started pre-production on its then-untitled game back in 2011"

You think it took all 3 years of developement for them to add a new movement type to COD? Let's be honest here if you think this is what their game was since day 1, you're insane.

Edit -

"You think it took all 3 years of developement for them to add a new movement type to COD?" - No the point is this cod is meant to be a new direction with a new dev cycle of three years, new engine etc and started development the same time TF did. Likelyhood of ideas being borrowed from TF is slim expect you have evidence to back that up.

"Let's be honest here if you think this is what their game was since day 1, you're insane." - And am guessing you can prove it wasn't since you were on the development team or a play tester.

the next installment of call of duty was suppose to be more like an adventure game. I definitely remember Activision saying that before. So advanced warfare did kind of come out of nowhere.

famoussasjohn3506d ago (Edited 3506d ago )

nicksetzer1 - No, however they were working on a 3rd person "Uncharted-esque" CoD which was put on hold as they helped IW with MW3 which was released in 2011 and then Activision had them begin working on this title. Remember that Respawn didn't release anything on their game until E3 when the Xbox One was shown off. I find it impossible to believe that they could rip off Titanfall in a year later with a fully working game to show off at E3 and have it available to demo with pro players at various gaming events?

The only thing I can think of is when everyone that left IW to form Respawn, when MW2 was released, they wanted to then making a game to the likes of Titanfall and Activision wasn't having it and wanted them strictly making CoD, which then snowballed into the whole legal mess after MW2 was released. Perhaps Activison wanted Sledgehammer to begin working on that idea under the CoD brand instead of a completely new IP. We don't know, more than likely won't ever know, but to say a dev straight up copied Respawn when they began development at the same time is simply incorrect.

Seriously? You think they can revamp the movement system at the last minute?
For these movements there has to be maps suited to it, perks, abilities etc so no, it can't be done in the last minute, and the whole story is about future technology, so they 're-developed single player in the last minute?
People don't think before they comment.
And to the guy who said this did come off last minute because SHG was working on an adventure game, please go somewhere else to troll and hate, SHG were working on an adventure game before MW3 was fully developed, and then they were assigned to make a new Cod which they had 3 years to make in not because they saw titanfall and what 'great' hit it was then chose to redevelop the whole game from scratch. LMAO!

nicksetzer13506d ago

If you are asking if I think one of the worlds largest devs can change movement, maps and perks for MP in 1 1/2 years, (time since titanfall reveal) then yes, I do.

Dontworrybhappy3506d ago

So taking a good idea from another game implementing it in your game and improving it in your own way is a bad thing? I thought that was game development.

HaveSumNuts3506d ago

Mediocre ripping off mediocre leaves us with mediocre games.

MegaRay3506d ago

Sounds like what every FPS is doing.

XtraTrstrL3506d ago

Well, they definitely ripped some maps off Killzone: ShadowFall.

XtraTrstrL3506d ago

LOL, I got disagreed for this? Wow, ok, just for that I'm gonna show the comparison vids. Since n4g kids wanna be idiots.

Shadow Fall - The Park https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Advanced Warfare - Venus https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Not to mention, even some guns look pretty similar to Killzone guns.

aerisbueller3506d ago

Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed. Of course they don't mind, they clearly don't place any value in originality.

DFray9193506d ago

here is another game. no matter how good it is people are going to hate! and say suck!

nicksetzer13506d ago

I think it looks great, I just also think titanfall had an impact on the product. The only reason I am not buying it is because there are so many other games to buy in that same span, namely Halo: MCC l.

That is a shame. AW is my favourite CoD. I hope they do a sequel one day.

LordoftheCritics380d ago

Thoroughly enjoyed AW.

Good campaign and everything.

LOGICWINS380d ago

Same. Fantastic campaign, but I wasn't crazy about the jetpacks in multiplayer.

RaidenBlack380d ago

I still prefer CoD based on historical settings or in near future settings(like CoD: Ghost) ... even though I liked infinite Warfare's campaign ... it was top notch

CobraKai380d ago

I felt it was a good time to revisit WW2

porkChop380d ago

I actually really enjoyed WWII. I never understood the hate it got.

JEECE380d ago

A lot of people who never played a shooter prior to like 2012 get really mad about anything that isn't a modern combat game.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare remains the series' lone bright spot this gen

GR: "If one series truly defined the seventh generation of consoles it was Call of Duty. Sadly, the series has struggled to reach the same heights on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and only Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare feels like the previous era of innovation and top-notch storytelling."

I quite enjoyed it but I think black ops 3 was the high point.

Modern warfare could be if a few tweaks are made and the new maps are good.

Baza1629d ago (Edited 1629d ago )

Story wise.. black opps 3 was all over the place. Modern Warfare story is so much more cohesive and actually makes sense.

Immorals1629d ago

Black ops 3 was terrible. The story was absolutely atrocious.

Knushwood Butt1629d ago

I quit that campaign after about an hour. All I remember is some crappy robot drone combat R2D2 thing that you had to use. I didn't make it past that.

Epicor1629d ago

For me the Black Ops installations have always been the high peaks in terms of PVP mode. Black ops 3 campaign was pretty bad though. Advanced Warfare's campaign was pretty good, one of the best ones - but PVP was bad!

gamer91629d ago

LOL Advanced Warfare, too funny

1629d ago
Kabaneri1629d ago

The campaign was OK, but the guns sounded like cap guns and the multiplayer maps were not memorable at all.
