The Waste Land is an 8-bit, open world, role-playing action adventure title from indie developer Fledermaus; aka the one-man team that is Mr Michele Caletti. The fantasy adventure is based around the story described in the T.S. Eliot poem from which the name of the game has been drawn.

Eliot’s poem, The Waste Land, this game pulls from some of the greats in retro gaming as already mentioned. The original poem covers all kinds of feelings such as pain, despair, innocence lost and more detailing the life of a misbegotten king named Zyron the third. Pixels for Breakfast writes: Heller likes to torture me. First he gave me the insufferable Cloud Chamber to play through, and now he’s testing my skills with The Waste Land. It’s definitely got a retro feel, and the difficulty is pretty hardcore. If you like games where you need a pen and pad to work out where you have been, and what skills you require to progress, this is definitely one for you.
