Murasaki Baby (PS Vita) Review - Push Square

Push Square: "Murasaki Baby is a textbook example of style over substance. The game’s twisted fantasy world certainly looks the part, but its touch-based puzzles are the real nightmare at times. There are some clever moments here, but they’re undone by atrocious controls. Nobody puts Baby in a corner – but on this evidence, perhaps they should."

I would agree, the game is a chore

Sketchy_Galore1585d ago

Damn, if this is an accurate score this is probably the worst year videogaming has ever seen, even if it's not accurate I guess. Let's hope one of the October-December releases swoops in at the last minute and saves us all superhero style.

Protagonist1585d ago (Edited 1585d ago )

How can it be accurate when the article just below, from Gamereactor gave it 8/10 and Gamezone gave it 9.5/10.

PS Nation 9.5/10

(Eurogamer) 8/10

Pocketgamer 8/10

You know something is wrong when PSNation gives it a 9.5/10.

9.5/10 really?

That is like Ocarina of Time or Mario 64 level of awesomeness.

THIS game is not that.....9.5/10 is SHOWING BIAS.

@3-4-5 did you read his review ? He said that the game made him want a daughter and the game related to him being a father of two boys. He said he couldn't put it down and he was completely immersed protecting the baby to find her mother.

Those two games you brought up, rofl. What emotions do you get from them "wow itz the awesomeness" Link has the master sword and Mario is jumps jumps jumps, gimme break.

The guy you made this is a Italian dev who made this game by all by himself and he deserves that score, what did he do he pay for that review ? Come on, what a joke.

What would've he have gained from giving the game a high score, nothing, unlike Nintendo who gets high scores for their hyped exclusives because of advertising money that the game sites get from them.

Zia_tiger1584d ago

@3-4-5, I do stand by my review. To me a game is more than just the gameplay, it also incorporates how drawn into the game I am. Will I disagree with the score in this review, I would say that this game is highly subjective (more so than others). To me this game is similar to a work of art, some people would walk by a painting and think it is the greatest thing they ever saw, others would walk by the same painting and they would think it is the biggest waste of paint they could ever imagine.

The best advice is simply try the game yourself and see what you think of it. Everybody who does a review of something is merely expressing their interactions with the game which may vary wildly from your own. An example from my past is the Halo series. I was at a friend's apartment the day the system came out and played it for an hour. The next day I was at EB Games picking up an Xbox and Halo. I loved that game and couldn't wait for the sequel. When Halo 2 came out I was thoroughly disappointed in it because of switching between factions. When Halo 3 came out I bought it because my friends were getting it, and I feel that after beating it it's one of the worst games I have ever played because the ending sequence felt like a carbon copy of the ending of the first one.

@TongkatAli What emotions do you get from Ocarina of Time? Either you're joking, a very poor troll or just too underage to have actually played the game when it was released. Hell even people who play the game for the first time today can still react to the emotions that the game elicits.

@ donwel.
what with this rise of trolling via "anti-troll"
he wasn't trolling nor needed to be called out for such.
He wa making a point

Got OOT on launch for N64.
I dont get emotional from games that aren't multiplayer.
Never had.
Im not a troll...
maybe a touch sociopathic, but not a troll.

By far the worst score for this game so far. Most places are giving it a 7-8, though the controls are a constant sore point in pretty much all the reviews.

Some places had the same problem with Tearaway (joystiq) and Escape Plan. Touch controls inherently block the screen, after x years of playing games on touch screen devices, you'd think people would have come to terms with that.
Aggravating? Yes.
Deal breaker? Nah.

I've got 10 bucks in PSN Play credit, and the game is only 12 bucks for plus members. I'll give it a shot (I liked Escape Plan and Tearaway, regardless of the controls).

SpiralTear1585d ago

When I played this game, I moved my right hand below the touch screen so my hand wouldn't block the screen when tapping it. I understand some folks' issues with the controls, as you need to hold the Vita in a certain way to use them ideally, but once you find a comfortable position, this game is gold. Doesn't deserve the hate.

TedCruzsTaint1585d ago

Great art style, poor game in itself, however. At least that seems to be the case.

The sketch art reminds me a lot of Neverending Nightmares, actually.

Spotie1585d ago

Pretty much everyone else disagrees, though.

Who to believe?

TedCruzsTaint1585d ago (Edited 1585d ago )

I now checked the other reviews. That said, this isn't going to be the only person who disagrees with the touch controles, which is expressed in the other lower reviews as well.

There should be an option for both. Would do a lot for the game as a whole.

TongkatAli1585d ago

Then it would be a simple platformer. If that's a deal breaker to you, pttf ok.

TedCruzsTaint1585d ago

Point being, it's a deal breaker for some reviewing it. And a platformer with unique controls is still just a platformer with unique controls.
If those controls bother some, well, why not give the option.

Benjammin251585d ago

Oh man, I'm so disappointed by this. I had high hopes for this game. Hopefully this review is the exception rather than the norm.

grailly1585d ago

most reviews are rather high
