They should. Last generation went on 2-3 years too long, it is well beyond time to move on. People stuck with last generation machines literally have thousands of games they can play.
Given the type of title it received at their "end" , no obviously it didnt last "too long" .
So older consoles will hold back hostage the newer consoles ... so what ? it happens every first year , and we are seeing more big exclusive ps4 and xb1 titles than we usually would at the start of any gen .
Except for the dremcast , and the juggernut appeal of most nintendo console launching with a mario or zelda , each new console had a "lame" starting year .
People even lined up to buy Def Jam Icon on ps3 and 360 ...
I don't see what the difference is if games are also released on the 7th gen. Games were released for the 6th gen long into the 7th gen. Anyone who says that somehow the 7th gen is holding the 8th gen back is wrong. The only improvements are in graphics and developers can downscale and optimize games like always. It seems as if people who bought the new systems are annoyed since they made the investment that people on last gen can still play all the current games, which is messed up.
Two examples of games, that each are doing things differently. Witcher 3 and DA: I.
One game is on the old platforms, having to cut content that wouldn't be possible. This ends up harming the experience people get on the next platforms, resulting in a inferior experience.
Witcher 3 on the other hand, is pushing what's possible on the next platforms, even though they're not quite able to handle the demanding game.
PC players are still getting shafted for that, but it's not as bad as EA wanting that money from old platforms.
The funny thing is, Witcher 3 could be considered a budget game, compared to the money EA spends on making DA: I.
There is a lot of money still to be made off the 7th generation.IT be stupid if developers don't support the 7th gen.People are forgetting that the 8th generation is STILL YOUNG and it takes time to make games...I swear people have no patience whatsoever.
The video game industry is strange and unpredictable. It's not like books or film. We're all still trying to figure this thing out. Hardware changes from generation to generation differ greatly. It's so expensive to make these AAA games now that we lose studios left and right. So, I don't blame them for being cautious. I would love to see devs focus completely on the new generation, but this is not a perfect world. Capcom doesn't have a lot of money right now.
Its true. we need to leave the last gen behind to truly get some awesome next gen games

I think we will hit true 8th gen., when their are over 50 million 8th gen consoles in peoples hands.
