MINE-Crosoft: Will Minecraft Become an Xbox Exclusive?

According to the Wall Street Journal—citing a “person of knowledge”—Microsoft is in “serious discussions” to purchase Mojang, the company responsible for creating explosively successful Minecraft, and the not-as-successful-because-it-h as-been-stuck-inside-a-legal-he llstorm-quagmire-for-years Scrolls.

This should have happened after the success of the original, and minescraft xbox one be exclusive. They've really missed the boat. Is the next minecraft still going to be desirable? A risk to say the least.

Microsoft, unlike Sony, operates in the green. A minecraft sequel is going to be huge, and it was a smart purchase

I could Tid for tat, but...

the idea that any company wanting your money and more market share operates in the green is laughable.

Minecraft is Mojang's one hit wonder. I don't see the benefit of buying out Mojang for such a high price. And according to Microsoft, they would not be cutting the game from competitors systems if they do acquire them.

cutting the game from competitors systems would be a bad move from MS. They should capitalize on that and make profit.

Let me show you why MS will earn a lot of money with MC:
By March 2012, Minecraft had become the 6th best-selling PC game of all time. As of February 3, 2014, the game has sold over 14 million copies on PC and over 35 million copies across all platforms. On February 25, 2014 the game reached 100 million registered users.

100 millions registered users!
Do you need more?

Considering anyone can register for free....

Runescape has that amount...

Considering that Minecraft was the brain child of Notch, and he just vocalized that he'd "most likely be leaving" Mojang after said buyout it truly leads me to wonder what potential Microsoft sees in the creative direction of the company. Or maybe it's just to take out some competition and just build up their production line, only time will tell I guess.

Mojang won't remove Minecraft from PlayStation or Android. It will kill all hope of a Minecraft Wii U, if there was any hope. They might also cancel the Minecraft Vita version, which will be sad. Microsoft will cut off updates for Minecraft and force Mojang to make Minecraft 2, which will be exclusive to Xbox One, with maybe a PC release a few months later.

WeAreLegion1498d ago

4J just finished the Vita version. They sent it in to Sony. I think the Vita version will still release.

Bennibop1498d ago

They could not remove it from other systems as people have bought disks etc and they would have to refund everyone effected.

MPScrimshaw1497d ago

I think this is the most likely thing to happen, should this deal actually go down. Notch will leave Mojang, and the skeletal remnants of the company will be instructed to divert all updates scheduled for Minecraft to instead be used to create Minecraft II which will be an Xbox/Windows exclusive. They'll just let the first game die on the vine, which would piss off a lot of fans of the franchise.
