The PlayStation 3 has finally arrived, in the US and Japan at least; European gamers will have to sob uncontrollably into their hankies until next March, the poor souls.

From the review: "After spending some time getting intimate with the PlayStation 3 I am pleasantly surprised.

As you would expect, the games look and play well, and you get a Blu-ray player for under £1,000.

On paper this machine has got a lot of horsepower under the bonnet. The biggest drawback I can see with the PS3 is the price; $599 in the US and £425 in the UK for the 60GB version is a hefty chunk of change.

However, the PS3 is a good machine. If the 360 is the Sherman tank of next-gen gaming then the PS3 is a Ferrari.

It would be impossible for any machine to live up to the hype that Sony has lavished on the PS3, and getting to market first means Microsoft have managed to give Sony a bloody nose, but now that the PS3 has finally arrived, I think it is likely that the PlayStation 3 will eventually deliver a knockout blow to the opposition."

Lol what a total idiot, anybody who doesn't know how to use to 360 interface is a total moron. Not only is it simple, it's 4 screens and all you do is press right/left to move side to side but everything is completely organized, and it's also not ugly...sorry I just dont know what he is talkin about

to anyone who is used to the PSP's interface, it will be quite easy to use, as they are pretty much the same.

but kinda odd this dude says it is so easy, yet everyone else complains about it.and to call the 360's interface confusing has me kinda doubting his opinion.

ONE good review of the machine. But the guy didn't really seem to have played a lot with the console. Every other reviewer complained how many steps it took to navigate the PS3 UI.... oh well

Nope, the poor souls are safed actually from buying a bag of poo for 600 dollars. For the same money we Europeans enjoy the 360 with a copy of Gears of War, COD3 and any other game you name and still pay less then 600 dollars!

With the crippling UK system of taxes and levies, the top PS3 will likely come in at 500-600 pounds, which at current exchange rates is in the $1000-$1100 range, so they are about to get shafted worse than any of us in North America or Asia. It is likely to be just as bad in most of the rest of Europe, as well.

Not a real gamer with no proper understanding of all the consoles plus and minus features, Just read the sales jargon from sony and believed it! He would probably buy a sony brick! this sort of article does not suprise me coming from our good old BBC. they are not very good at unbiased, even though they would like you to believe they are.

As a lover of technology, games, and being an early adopter...I'm used to navigating menus and figuring out setups without using a manual or whatever. But I can sorta see some of the complaints from a novice user of the 360 UI. The 'blade" system couldn't be any easier to use in my opinion, however I personally don't care for the guide button functionality at this point. Now hear me out...I LOVE the guide button and how I can change music and settings and what not with it, but I'd like to be able to change settings or see my battery status for wireless connections somewhere in the "blades". I feel like a FEW of the options on the 360 are "hidden" away and could take a minute to find and use. For example, the "active downloads" screen can only be accessed (as far as I know) from using the guide button and going into personal settings. All I'd want to see is perhaps a "personal settings" blade...that would make me happy.

Now, from my use of the PSP and what I see of the PS3 UI, I simply don't like it and there are too many hoops to jump through to change a setting or setup a playlist. The 360 lays that out pretty well.

Aside from taking exception to the 360 menu comment, I have one big issue with this "review." I don't think he actually played the PS3.

In spite of his comments about "spending time getting intimate with the Playstation (sic) 3", all of his comments could have been written by observing gameplay trailers and system specs. He gives no details or personal impressions of gameplay. I am not convinced this guy has ever touched a PS3.

Damn is he retarded? seriously I have a 3 year old cousin that know how to navigate trough the 360s blades and get to the arcade games, music, and start the game. he even managed to learn how to start a video chat. With his brother when his at my house and with me when his at mine.??? UMMH NO Its good that sony has a good review out for them but this dude crossed the line comparing futures form PS3 to 360 that he clearly doesn't know what he is talking about.

Just to tell you all, this guy probably isn't a Playstation fanboy. This is the BBC we're talking about. Journalists for the BBC are a clueless bunch, who aren't too familiar with modern "new fangled technology", or whatever those hip kids are playing nowadays. And furthermore, the BBC would do just about anything for money. There's no doubt about them being biased, they practically control the country through media. Best case scenario they are praising the PS3 because they believe it will be better and want to "back the winning side". Worst case scenario, Sony payed them off. It wouldn't be the first time a bit of cash has buttered them up.
Rule of thumb. Never ever trust the BBC.

And btw the PS3's have been touring European press for months and recently the public as well (I personally got a chance to play one just this last weekend).

oh please. An independant company that can charge the entire public a mandatory fee for owning a television set. A company that is single handedly in charge of rating all of our media from videogames to movies. A company that totally destroys the competition in every media format to practically be the first and only source for news in the country, aside from satellite television. Even independant radio stations and tv channels get their news reports from THE BBC. A company that single handedly runs the news industry for an entire country including its leaders, they say whatever the hell they want.

I played a ps3 last night at my friends and No Doubt it's sleek design and quietness were nice, but the Resistance game sucked the graphics were PS2 style and so was NBA 07. Where is the power this thing has? I recently saw a review that compared the games RESISTANCE AND GOW. after playing Resistance I can honestly say that the review I read on this site was super bogus.. NOT only does GOW blow Resistance out of the water gameplay wise its smashes it Graphically.. The PS3 is a hype machine that sucks balls... The online play sucks balls too... The release games scored worse then the 360 release titles and they had a whole extra year to develope them... Anyone on the fence about which console to get hands down the 360 should be it unless you want a console to watch Blu Ray movies on...

in that they can sit back for a few more months and see how things play out among the Big 3 and then make a better informed decision on which system(s) to buy and which to leave on the shelf. However, I see this as being good news for the European 360 team in that they will have a Christmas season go by without PS3 to compete with, which is going to be bad for Sony. By the time spring arrives, everyone looking for a reasonably priced and high def gaming experience, will have bought a 360 and PS3 will lose much of it's appeal.
