"Having video games classified is an arduous process in Australia. It’s expensive, it’s stagnant, and it’s dated. For independent developers, this can be a major problem, as a certain portion of their budget needs to be set aside just so they can have a teensy tiny little ‘M’ pop up alongside their game’s title. Thankfully, that process is taking a hike, and a welcomed one at that. New legislation allows for developers of smaller digital games to rate their miniature masterpieces using an online tool hosted by the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC), rather than adhering to the complex processes that were previously required with the Australian Classification Board."
