Destiny Might Outsell Grand Theft Auto V

There's a chance that Destiny might actually outsell the game that shattered just about every major sales record in 2013. Destiny caters to the masses...

I really doubt that will happen , its a new ip so maximum is 15 million , i mean watchdogs was overhyped and managed to sell less than 10 million . And honestly in my opinion making it multiplayer centric wasnt really the best idea . Yes i know it can be played alone but its not meant to be played like that and i really have a huge issue with that .

didnt gta sell 30+million?not only is it unreasonable to expect that from a new ip,
i have a feeling hype has deflated quite a bit,at least i know mine has, after finding out about how little pve content is there.
but if it isnt delfated, then its huge and will never be able to live up to it creating another watchdogs scenario.
realistically i dont see it breaking 15 million in its best possible run

Gta has sold over 50 million I believe.... and it's still got a pc and next gen release to come...it's only been released on two platforms destiny will be on 4 on day 1 it doesn't have a hope in hell of matching gta5 and I don't think it's going to be good enough to deserve too either.

Not to mention GTA V is getting a re-release. Which will stack the number even more. Even if Destiny turns out to be the biggest selling new IP of all time, it still won't beat the Goliath that is GTA, in sales.

If Destiny (on 4 major platforms) even manages to match the sales of GTA5 (currently on 2 major platforms) it will have exceeded expectations.

But there is no way it'll exceed GTA5 after it is released on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

It was built to be an Online Game from the VERY beginning. When Bungie left Halo they said they're working on an MMO. And playin the alpha/beta they've done a fantastic job of it. I think its the World of Warcraft of Shooter MMO's. Its rivals are Borderlands & Planetside 2. And i think Destiny crushes both of em from what i've played so far.

You may love your singleplayer games but don't take it out on our Multiplayer games. I'm one that thinks Singleplayer games should stay singleplayer like Dragon Age, im sick of the thought of multiplayer in that game. It didnt bode well for Bioshock 2 after how fantastic Bioshock 1 was.

I don't see this happening either. GTA is a juggernaut. I do think Destiny will have very impressive overall numbers. They invested 1 half a billion dollars into this franchise and they are advertising it like crazy right now. This game has to have huge numbers to get back into the black.

Oh BTW the commercials for this game are excellent. Especially the one with Led Zeppelin music playing while they are attacking the enemy stronghold. I can't recall the last time I've seen Sony this ambitious with advertising 1 title.

Then Destiny comes, which aren't of a big interest for the ''mainstream gamer'' at all.
They want CoD and Fifa, not RPG shooters.

More and more girls are gaming now more than ever. Look at twitch on both PS4 and X1. I see girls playing Battlefield 4, Ghost, Titanfall, Outlast, Destiny Beta, and etc everyday. There are more girls playing than they were years ago when Halo 2 came out 2004(They were just the minority back then). Plus you got the social network features on both platforms with Facebook, cameras and etc. Girls like that stuff.

Its very funny and entertaining to watch them play the horror games like Outlast lol! They say things like where do I go where do I go!

I personally feel destiny will not live up to its hype/expectations.. I'm sure it'll be fun and sell very well.. But I'd bet cod crushes it and its run will be shortlived and certainly not 10 years..

i agree, didn't feel like there will be enough content from what they re saying and what i saw in the 'beta' (demo) infact I've cancelled my order to wait for the inevitable "complete edition" with all the dlc.

if Destiny outsells GTA V (not including next gen releases) I'll buy one person (on this site) the first AAA title out in 2015 so Destiny has 3 months to beat it maybe 4

i'm not doubting it will sell well (seems to have the masses in hype mode) but i can't really see it as something jaw dropping

People keep underminding GTAV. It has sold 16M+ on both platforms. For starters that is not possible on next gen and it would be lucky to manage 2.5M on Xbone and 3M on PS4. Next gen will be outselling last gen by a solid margin, so I think Destiny would be lucky to move 2M on 360 and 1.5M on PS3. That alone will not reach the same as one platform for GTAV let alone all 5 when it releases this fall.

If I had to take a guess Destiny will move 8M to maybe 10M

Its a new IP - it will do well but won't outsell GTA. I have friends in their mid forties that dont consider themselves gamers but have an xbox and buy gta when it comes out. GTA appeals to a wider audience.

I can see this being very similar to Titanfall. Hyped up to the max by every games journo outlet known to man, some more so than others (cough, Geoff Keighley, cough).

It will sell decent numbers but nothing spectacular and it will just be another "also ran" in the FPS space. I would be surprised if sales of COD:AW are not better.

I was looking forward to it a long time ago, now it's locked 30fps and console only so im passing until they release the PC version, depending on the reaction and community generated by the console versions.

Not a Chance! Maybe GTA on PS4 and Xbox One, But Destiny isn't outselling GTA5 on a whole... I foresee the game maybe reaching 8 million units like Watch_Dogs, It'll be a far cry from outselling even Advanced Warfare which will be te biggest selling game this year...

I'm looking forward to this game, the same as everyone. I think it's going to be great, and very big, but there's no way it's going to outdo GTA V as a new IP. GTA has built up interest as a phenomenon over the past two decades. Destiny has only had a year's worth of exposure, and a few months of hands on experience with an incomplete beta release.

I doubt it but if the game comes out for the pc 360 ps3 xb1 ps4, come on, its basic math, it has a better chance, as GTA was only on two platforms. I really don't see Destiny having the appeal as GTA, but we will see. Seems like Halo to me with RPG elements. We will see how it does..

Despite being force fed media stories that everyone & their dog has pre-ordered this. Only 1 of my gaming buddies is buying this game, at least at launch anyway. The general consensus from most on the internet is that they're not particularly interested due to thought of lack of content. I find it all a bit strange to be honest.

I'm just going to wait & see how the game pans out with reviews in a month or 2 down the line. I don't think sales will compare to GTA though.

Dull Alpha/Beta, very limited PvE content (after we were less to beleive its huge), bland PvP, and no doubt tonnes of paid for DLC that could have easily been In the original game. In fact half the DLC is probably just locked content already on the disc.

Its going to be like Titanfall, hyped beyond reason and then dropped a week later.

I agree, Destiny Beta was a bore fest and I think the full game is going to be underwhelming. The world felt barren and the story was nonexistent.

Activision stated that Destiny had the highest ever pre-order numbers for a NEW IP... So it's obviously gonna do well, but beating an established IP like GTA is not going to happen.

Who knows, but Rockstar made way too much money with GTAV I don't think they or anyone should care whether Destiny outsells it or not, the term 'outsell/outsold' is getting too overused these days at the point people are comparing things that doesn't correlate, smh.
