CraveOnline: "As with virtually any game—sadly—, there is a pirated version of The Sims 4 floating around the internet. Although pirates have been successful in acquiring the game for free, it’s at a cost, albeit not a monetary one."
Sucks for them but I don't really feel sorry for anyone. Not EA and not these pirates. You are not entitled to anything from EA, in just the same way EA is not entitled to their money.
ohh so now protest is the pirate scum's latest excuse for stealing something that they clearly want.
Bla bla bla, they always have some excuse. "Im going to DL it for free on day 1 because it sucks and is overrated, the company who made it is evil, im going to try it for 6 months before I might buy it for 2$ on sale, the main character is bald, its not worth 60$ even though I desperately have been waiting for it to come out for years, there are not enough pandas, it didnt get a 95% on metacritic, the dev is a moron, it has DLC, its only single player or only multiplayer."
Pirates should stop trying to justify stealing software and not play the game if they feel so strongly about it. Clearly they are just trying to justify being scumbag leeches.
ANd I dont agree that ist ok because its EA. Whi gives a shit who the publisher is. Clearly these scum want to play the sims but dont want to pay. If its good enough for your time, its good enough to get your money. ANd dont give me BS about greedy publishers and DLC, it more greedy for pirates to justify stealing everything and anything for any reason.
but hey, I guess in the pirates mind its OK to steal ANY AND ALL games from anyone. Did you pirate justifiers forget what happened to CD project red and the witcher 2? Seems like scumbag pirates stole the shit out of one of the best games ever made by probably the best most gamer friendly dev. What was there reasoning on that one? Nothing, just cheap asses that dont want to support hard working developers.
keep spining the facts, pirates will steal any game. Even ones they can't make up some BS excuse for stealing.
Ahhh....and now we know why the game sucks so much...they focused more on getting the pirates annoyed for a couple days instead of working on the core game and making it better.
Epic. I love when pirated games come coded with certain flaws that aren't discovered until the player is invested in the game. Sweet, sweet revenge. I don't agree with pirating in any case. If you want to play it, pay for it, if you don't, then play something you actually do want to play (and pay for that too).
Technically, you could say that it is because of pirates that developers are finding ways to recoup costs through DLC and add-ons... if everyone actually paid for it up front, they would have the money to develop more things for cheaper or free .
That doesn't count for EA. Piracy is also not an excuse for cutting content out of games to sell as DLC and add-ons. Especially when you consider that console centric games are afflicted with the same problem. It is pure greed. I am sorry.
I can bet you that if there where no pirating of games there would be less game sales not more, a lot of ppl pirate games to see if it's worth the purchase, if they like it some ppl go ahead and buy it, the majority of pirates don't intend on ever buying the games whether they can get them free or not.
EA took out pools. Something that existed in the first three games and made it DLC. If anyone is dealing with lady karma it's EA. I bet half of those pirated copies wouldn't exist if EA didn't try to pull that shit.
What's next? EA releases a game for $50 but to be able to move your character you have to buy the $10 day one DLC?
I'm not paying for something that I can easily get for free. But I do pay for all my console games. But I don't pay for pc games that are usually buggy and suck. Except for minecraft pc which I actually did buy.
You do understand this the reason why companies like rockstar doesn't release GTA on the PC till well after the console releases and doesn't care if its buggy or not
No that's what they make you think by telling you that piracy kills there profits but they are wrong. Almost every movie, music album, and game that sells really great has the most pirated copies out of everything. So what makes them blame piracy is when they make a product that doesn't sell well but really the only reason is that it sucks and piracy is the easiest scape goat to there shareholders. PC version of GTA did not get released so that they would make more money out of the console versions knowing that the people who want it on pc will still want it when they finally release it.
@drpepperdude umm you just agreed with my point... some PC gamers will buy it but most will just pirate it. So might as well just push out a shitty port later on PC which they always do.
The problem with these DRM effects is that pirates are not the only ones to suffer from it. EA will now try to use this as a scapegoat to avoid having to provide customer support for bugs. Claiming that anyone who experiences it must be a pirate. GTAIVs drunk mode has taught us that it isn't only the pirates who experience these effects.
Steam would not be the force it is today if "the majority of PC gamers pirate their games". I love the conflicting viewpoints that surrounds all this. PC can't both be a niche market, a market that consists of mainly pirates, but then also have sites like Greenman, Gamersgate and GoG raking in millions every year. Not to mention Valve that rakes in over a billion a year, to the point that the owner himself is a billionaire.
It is sort of legitimate if they download the pirated copy but then never play it. That would be like signing a petition, with a bit of flare to draw attention.
But yes, the moment they launch the software they move from "protesting" to "pirating".
Yeah it is. If pirating is "the bane of the industry" that "will kill our company" then yes. It is a form of protest to perform the action that companies fear in the face of one of their biggest cash cows.
Can't say I approve of this though. I'm just not touching Sims 4 altogether. I think that sends a stronger message.
This is the one excuse I actually do sympathise with to an extent.
Wasn't goint to buy it anyway - BS Will buy it after if I like it - BS Making a stand against something - BS Nobody loses out - BS It isn't worth the asking price - BS I do not have any other means to experience games - Hmmmm maybe just very rarely this one could hold some merit.
But it goes off into quite a deep conversation that isn't really N4G material :)
Te I'll buy it after isn't bs. I pirate games to try them seeing as demos are practically non existent. That and developers in PC are lazy as balls so I need to check if the game will actually run
I don't mean that I think it is a lie. I mean it is not a valid excuse.
You are perfectly entitled to refuse to buy a game if you cannot try it first. That's as far as the entitlement goes though. Helping yourself crosses the naughty line.
As far as ethics go, that one is fairly cut and dry.
1. A Ferrari is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Even millions at times. Sims 4 is $60
2. A Ferrari is an actual object you can touch, smell, etc. Sims 4 is not. It's just data on a harddrive
3. A Ferrari is a luxury automobile targeted for the super rich. Sims 4 is a video game targeted to anyone who has $60 and a computer capable of running it. And the Sims 4 doesn't take a whole lot to run.
Ill admit I downloaded this game for my wife so she can try it out. Weve always bought our games but this one seems so... Not complete i want her to try it before she wastes her money. If she likes it we buy it if not... Ill delete it simple as that. I have a steam name with 65 games on it and a few legit off steam games but with pc you dont always get what you pay for.
Piracy is theft no matter how you try and justify it. You try and justify it because you want to get rid of the horrible guilty feeling you get from stealing. Some people don't feel the guilt and openly admit to the theft and are, in a weird way, more honest than the thief in denial.
Definition of theft. "the act of stealing; specifically : the felonious taking and removing of personal property with intent to deprive the rightful owner of it." http://www.merriam-webster....
As soon as piracy involves depriving the original owner of access to the content, let me know and we can continue this discussion.
Learning the meaning of words is typically a good first step before trying to dictate their meaning to others. BTW, not a pirate. Just pointing out facts.
Have any of you actually seen the price of the sims 3 complete collection? its over £200 if not more. Now they have the nerv to charge £60 for the game on PC even tho they don't need to pay Microsoft or Sony royalties and a lot of content that should be included has but cut from the main game. Only dev worth supporting still in EA is Bioware and after ME3 they are on a very slippery slope themselves.
Funny how Warner Brothers have got a few good games coming to PC soon and they only charge £25. This is why I buy my EA games off trusted CD key sellers way cheaper than buying from the publisher who doesn't deserve my £60. Any self respecting PC game publisher doesn't sell there game for more that £35 at the very most, any more is its pure greed.
As a PC and console gamer PC's have many more games to choose to buy and if your game sucks PC gamers will drop it quicker than on any other platform, BF4 is a great example that game died quick to the point no one plays it on PC any more. You all talk as if EA should charge what they like for as little content as they like. My gf has already purchased Sims 4 and after only finding out how much stuff isn't included feels as if EA has ripped her off which is quiet understandable these are the people who would rather pirate the game now they know what its like than continue to fund a publisher who has shown continuously to rip people off.
I'll let y'all in on a pirated game fact. Most pirated games you can't even play online, and the rest even if you do get online it's half a#s little servers with a low amount of players. And I think that is fair.
You want to play online buy it and enjoy, and if you can't afford it, do everything in your power to get the money.
I have never played and never will play a pirated game. That being said EA The only reason why your game is failing is not because of pirating. It's because you don't give a flying f*#k about your customers. Every game series you buy and produce turns from wonderful original ideas, to half-assed attempts that fail right from the very beginning. Most of your costumers enjoyed the create a style and the open world and swimming pools and toddlers. But did you listen to us? No because you don't care. And then you have the balls to blame piracy instead of blaming yourselves. STOP RUINING THE SERIES WE HAVE GROWN UP WITH AND LOVED.
Sucks for them but I don't really feel sorry for anyone. Not EA and not these pirates. You are not entitled to anything from EA, in just the same way EA is not entitled to their money.

The full screen censor will be fixed in a day or two. This happens all the time.
I'm not paying for something that I can easily get for free. But I do pay for all my console games. But I don't pay for pc games that are usually buggy and suck. Except for minecraft pc which I actually did buy.
