GameInformer- Metro Redux Review: A Post-Apocalyptic Remodel

GameInformer- Born out of the ashes of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developer GSC Game World, 4A Games came out of nowhere in 2010 with its moody and atmospheric debut, Metro 2033. The game proved to be a critical darling, and despite switching publishers the studio managed to produce a sequel, Last Light, that met equal acclaim. To give these impressive titles a victory lap, Deep Silver encouraged 4A to create this remastered collection.

Leveraging the power of new-gen consoles, 4A games uses the latest version of its impressive proprietary engine to give Metro 2033 a facelift complete with revamped A.I., improved weapon handling, and non-lethal takedowns. Both games now run at a brisk 60 frames per second with HD resolutions (1080p on PS4 and 900p on Xbox One). PC players with powerful enough systems can push that resolution up to 4K. The new textures, global illumination, and improved character models combine to make two already beautiful games even more attractive.

I played the second one on plus, it was a good experience but there were problems I had with it. For free though I couldn't really complain. If you have nothing to play you get 2 games for one so it might be worth your time.

ROn - I've played about 2 hours of the first metro game (remastered on ps4) and I like it a, the look is amazing for a remastered game. and when I get done with both metro games, the dlc for each is ALSO there to play! a great value. I think it's definitely worth the 50 dollars for 2 games.

What a lazy review. That could have been written off of previously done interviews or videos available online. I hate when reviewers don't mention a thing about what playing the game is like.

I've only played a couple hours of the first remastered metro on ps4 - and this is just my's got big survival horror and post apocalyptic vibe. the game looks amazing with lots of atmosphere and tension - so far I love the monsters...they're nasty. I like the manufactured guns - for example - there's one called a revolving shotgun (pretty sure that's the name) that I LOVE. I also like the fact that ammo is scarce and must be managed wisely. the one thing some players may not like is having to watch the damage to your gas mask and having to swap out filters for breathing.....I didn't know if I'd like it but it doesn't hinder gameplay and kind of adds to the tension of not wanting to be caught in a toxic zone and no filter!
like I said, I'm not far in but I love it so far.

These developers are talented. It would be nice if they could get te license to make a proper STALKER game, I think they could do a great job on it.

TheRealTedCruz2494d ago

Being that the developer, 4A, consists of many members of the original STALKER team then, yes, I agree they could probably handle the series.
Especially now with better support and what would likely be a substantially larger budget than they had the first time around.

Played them both and they are great I just downloaded them again as a shout out to the developer. Well worth it!
