I think the fact that some of the best looking games this generation so far isn't 1080p tells you exactly how important resolution is.

That is to say, very little at this point.

Good artwork will hide low resolution!

If you wanted top notch resolution, frame rate and overall detail in graphics, then go PC, but it has it's disadvantages too.

What is ironic is we are discussing maybe like 15-20% difference in resolution at best in some games, and that gap is being closed pretty quickly.

On PC, that gap is several hundred percent easily with even a relatively low cost PC. The games in the long run are way cheaper, but I pick Xbox One because of the platform features. Graphics isn't that important when considering what I would loose going that route.

What doesn't bode well for the future is this insistence on specifications instead of how awesome a game is. You say it enough times and that is what we will get in focus.

And from what I'm told/read its difficult to tell any major difference. C.O.D is a mess no matter how u scratch it. The PS4 got better resolution 1080p but gameplay suffers noticeably from rate drop. X1 version is running at 720p but game play and frame rates are on point. BF4 900p vs 720p is not worth debating. PS4 has a slight resolution edge so far this gen.

On top of that DriveClub is a brand New IP while the Forza IP is on it's 7th game since both studios work on both games (Playground is just the lead when it comes to Horizon) so over 7 games there should be tons of features.

Killzone went in a completely new direction from the previous 3 installments (4 counting) the Vita version, and there had been new modes and content added since launch. And considering MCC is a collection of 4 games expanding 2 consoles it should have a bunch of content. They're bumping up Halo 2 with the Anniversary treatment, slapping Halo 1 Anniversary on there and upgrading Halo 3 and Halo 4 to 1080p @ 60fps (which several studios have proven to us, that it only takes a small team and a few months to port these games over in 1080p @ 60fps).

The XBO should be able to handle high-end Xbox 360 level games (Halo MCC) in 1080p @ 60fps no problem or technologically speaking it's not a worthwhile successor. Froza 5 basically got the HD 1.5 treatment, because it's not a substantial leap over Forza 4 at all besides better lighting, resolution, and textures at the cost of tons of cars and content.

Forza Horizon 2 is the only game that's a true step ahead of it's 360 counterpart out of what you listed.

It's been suggested on an old article, that the PS4 could run Ryse: Son of Rome at 900p60fps, since it's a corridor action game like Tomb Raider, you would see the same results!

Xbox one couldn't hit 60 fps in Tomb Raider, but the PS4 can at 1080p! Since it's releasing on PC, we may very well find out if that's true, by using the same specs as the PS4 to test that theory!

Using the same specs as a the PS4 for a game won't give you any indication of what the game will run like on the the PS4.

You have two separate memory pools for one, you have a cut down OS, you have dedicated GPU/CPU for gaming, however PC's CPU's/GPU's are often more powerful than. But please consoles aren't PC's they have similarities but aren't the same.

Consoles have a cut down OS, a certain amount of memory that you can utilize, a certain amount of CPU's you can utilize (often more than PC). List goes on.

PC's have advantages because the don't have the same limitations of consoles, you can load the game data into the RAM, and the graphics into the graphics memory. Thus meaning that the data is been spread over different hardware giving a better load balance, hence that PC games always have better FPS compared to consoles.

I'm hardly an Xbox fan, but I have a tough time believing Blizzard optimized the game as well as possible. An 8GB machine with a mid range GPU with that amount of EDRAM should be running Diablo 1080p 60fps with room to spare. Especially if something like Ryse is running at 900p 30fps with more than 10 times the polygons, MSAA, a further render distance (given the adjustable third person camera), a physics engine and a much better lighting rig.

I smell a rushed port.

Resolution isn't really the issue. The bottom line is Xbox One games are harder to develop for than PS4. The same as it was harder to develop for PS3 than it was for 360, accept in both cases the PS3 was more powerful than 360 and PS4 is more powerful than Xbox One. With PS3 only in 1st party games like God of War and Uncharted was the performance gap made noticeable while 3rd party games actually looked better on 360 at times due to PS3 being difficult for devs. Now with PS4 the tables are turned and not only will 1st party games look superior but also the 3rd parties are better optimized and have the higher performance.

The only way MS can be "blamed" in regards to minor differences between 360/PS3 horsepower is for making the "next-gen" system (for its time) that was quite easy to develop for compared to PS3's Cell. The contention was a matter of time and resources rather than behind-the-scenes deals.

Dips at all that early in the game are the troublesome part. The glaring fact that every Xbone defender is failing to understand is that monster density only continues to grow as you progress through the game into higher difficulty levels.

If your console is dipping NOW, imagine how poor the performance will be when you're knee deep in Torment difficulty with 100+ enemies on the screen and multiple elite packs each with several effects at once.

By ACT III the Xbox One version clearly starts stuttering quite often. When there are 8 enemies or more and you're with an NPC, it starts bogging down way more than a few FPS.

We're talking 20 FPS when it starts chugging like the Little Engine That Could.

Seriously though, now that Xbox is hitting 1080p more I guess it seems we're just moving on the to the next thing. For months there was a slew of comments about it being pathetic that Xbox can't hit 1080p and that framerate is less important. Now that 1080p is becoming more the norm I see hundreds of commentors saying that Microsoft are retarded for pushing 1080p, because 60fps is far more important. They're pushing it in response to criticism yet when they begin to achieve it they're slaughtered for small frame drops. Talk about moving the goal posts.

As long as there is any kind of difference between 3rd party titles, that are found by cracking out our magnifying glasses, I'm sure those posts will continue to be moved. If equality were to be achieved I'm sure there will be a legion of tinfoil hat wearing PS4 owners saying that it's a Microsoft conspiracy against Sony and that they're money hatting the developers or imposing evil agreements upon them for parity's sake.

What happens if they start to get stable frame rates, instead of near perfect ones? What will we have to pick on then? I think I may need to lie down, it's all too much.

I would much rather have my game run at 900p and stay at a solid 60 than to force it up to 1080 and have tearing and frame rate drops any day.

As an avid xbox fan I KNOW that the ps4 is just flatout better when it comes to raw power. Its simple math. I do not really care about people nitpicking over a 180p difference as games look great on both consoles.

Microsoft will strugle this generation with their poor choosing of hardware specs but by no means will the xbox brand die off no matter how many of you cynical gamers want to believe All they will do is learn from the mistakes.

Microsoft screwed the pooch this gen by limiting the ram within their console.

Next gen will probably come sooner than before (im guesing we will be hearing announcements in 2020. microsoft will come out swinging this time. The only way they are going to be able to sell people on the kinect 3.0 is if it is built straight into the console and does not affect the price at all.

Yes, Ryse does look awesome.....in stills. That game dips into the teens for crying out loud, and anyone who finds that game to be a marvel of gaming tech and a visual running masterpiece, is simply ignorant or lying. Screenshots are nice, but game play is stuttering diarrhea. Crysis meets Blighttown is not my idea of awesome.

The Xbox One is simply a tad behind the PS4. The PS4 isn't much to tout either, as it barely can run these games at good settings (although it does it) That said though, the Xbox is even weaker and it shows already. Its going to get much worse as third party developers begin to push for PS4 access while Xbox One remains limited at less than 1080p smooth frames over 30 a second.
