Close_Second3777d ago (Edited 3777d ago ) buying MGS4. I have never played any MGS game right through - not sure I ever got an opportunity to as I only played MGS2 for a couple of hours on a friends PS2 some years back. However, nothing about the game pulled me in and made me want to finish it. Or made me want to rush out and buy it for myself.

Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to bag MGS4 its just I'm sitting here reading the reviews and not sure if I should go out and buy it or not. Would love some opinions of those who have actually been playing it - especially if they are opinions that are not caught up in the hype.

Of special interest to me is how good is multiplayer and how long is the actual game minus sitting through the extensive amount of cutscenes. Do I really need to play through the other MGS games before playing MGS4?

No you dont have to... this one is ALOT more mainstream feeling though it can be a tad confusing. If you want the real experience just play the first 3 first.... then MGS4. It is such a good series and MGS4 is better than everything. I'm not just hyping dude. I'm fighting my first boss and the game is just unrivaled. It is SO GOOD.

MikeGdaGod3777d ago

i love the MG series but i too haven't finished one game all the way through except MGS2. but this game can't even be described in words its so good. i've never played a better game, EVER. i wish i could go in more detail but i'm going back to play more. here's the last part of the IGN review. i'm sure you read it but it sums up everything i could say, without having finished the game myself. i've never been more confident in referring a game to someone and that's all i was telling people yesterday. "You have to buy this game. You have to buy a PS3 for this game. As close to a sure thing you'll see."

from IGN:

"Buy this game. I don't care if the gameplay in the past titles didn't appeal to you, I don't care if long cutscenes scare you, and I don't care if you're broke.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is the best reason to own a PlayStation 3 thus far.

I've played every Metal Gear Solid game since the series won me over in 1998, and I can tell you that I have never felt as connected to Snake as I did in this game. Hell, I've never felt this connected to any character in any other videogame that I've played. Our hero has gone from a soldier in his prime to an elderly warrior trying to make a difference. We see Snake struggle, we see Snake win, we see Snake lose, we see Snake relax, and we see Snake become a truly three-dimensional character. Whether he's chilling on the Nomad in street clothes, discussing his turn of fortune with "friends," or taking part in the game's phenomenal final boss battle, this is the greatest iteration of the character that I have ever seen.

This game is emotional, powerful, fun, beautiful, deep, engaging, and just about every other positive adjective you could assign it. Metal Gear Solid 4 pulls you in and doesn't let you go until the final, final credits roll."

I recommend at least renting the game because even if it is not your cup of tea it is hard not to appreciate the uniqueness of the game and the care put into every last detail.

I have never played a MGS game . . . EVER. I bought MGS4 yesterday and am amazed. AWESOME GAME.

Close Second, I'm a HUGE MGS fan have all 4 solid titles, (and their "second comings") the psp portable ops and ac!d titles (Yeah, I never knew I could get into a card game version!)

The story is definitely NOT for everyone, I've been spellbound by Kojimas storytelling and love and respect the various colourful characters that come with the stories. But a few of my friends are wierded out by the story so I can appreciate not everyone will enjoy it as much as me.

I started MGS4 last night and I will take a long time in finishing this game before embarking a 2nd time with a guide. I'm still very early into the game but I've found it incredible. The new additions to Snakes "arsenal" (Drebin, Octo-Camo, MK-II) are very thought out and are cool to use. I would recommend to every gamer to try MGS4, not necessarily buy but to give it a go.

In my honest opinion tho, with what you've written about not getting into the story, I'm not so sure this game will be right for you. With cut scenes reporting to be an hour in places (to me that sounds like a dream come true =p) I think they will in the end put you off from playing. Did you get a chance to try the beta of MGO? That gives a fair idea of how the gameplay is but there is so much more, listening to the ipod to relieve stress in the middle of a fierce gunfight is just one example.

The game is great, the attention to detail is amazing but as Kojima has already said, He made MGS4 for the fans and it's people like me who appreciate it the most.

Bottom line, do everything in your power to TRY it.

Play the originals first. if you can play the PSP game. It'll make allot more sense. MGS4 is good but its not as good as 3. Its still much worthy of a buy though. Its just not as groundbreaking as MGS3 was for me.

phello3777d ago

If you like games at all , just play this. It might as weell being made by god its that good

Vino3777d ago

Well you could play the old games if you want to get a better understanding of the game, that's just my opinion.

chaosatom3333777d ago

xbots, you can't stop the ps3 now.

G1TR4P3D3777d ago

Why, because one game finally sells? It couldn't even beat Lego Indiana Jones. Sad sh1t.

juuken3777d ago

G1TR4P3D, this is only the first week.
You fail.

G1TR4P3D3777d ago

Yeah, but since MGS4 is the greatest game ever made which kills 360, why is no one buying it?

juuken3777d ago

You stupidity shows, you know that? MGS4 is THE biggest game on the PS3. Plenty of people bought it already. I bought it already. Even people who have never PLAYED an MGS4 game bought it. Like I said, it's the first week. Spin it however you like to spin it but you're wrong on many accounts.

G1TR4P3D3777d ago

Oh, cuz each halo sold around 3 million each on their first night.

juuken3776d ago

You're still failing.
Try again.

G1TR4P3D3776d ago

Oh right, cuz I just made that up, right?

Game over.

juuken3776d ago

Stop flailing with your head chopped off.

TheXgamerLive3776d ago (Edited 3776d ago )

In other words for those that don't get it, this is the best selling ps3 title only, not best selling above all other console titles, lol, only vs other ps3 titles.

This is very sad as it took 5 years to do this movie, err game I suppose and it can't even beat Lego? Pathetic.
