i don't care about the type, the violence level, the color level or whatever, it's the QUALITY of the game that matters the most, the theme comes second

Yi-Long3559d ago

It's about the maturity behind the game. Journey is not violent, but it's about a mature subject, which is life itself.

You also have a lot of games that are rated 'mature', but they're mostly aimed at an 'immature' audience, with low-brow story and action, and shock-value violence. Nothing wrong with that, and I understand the violence that's depicted is intended for 'mature' eyes, but obviously it's over the top violent fantasies for 'boys'.

Many games offer a nice mix of both though, so they try to portray a serious deep meaningful narrative, but there's also action that's about having FUN. And when most action is about fighting and shooting, it tends to be 'violent' action, which again often finds it self falling in 'mature' ratings.

So there's a difference between being developed for a 'mature' audience (Journey, SimCity 4, Flight Simulator, whatever), and having content that's only 'suitable' for a mature audience.

Nothing 'good' or 'bad' about either of course. It's all about the quality of the game, and just like every other form of entertainment, there's greatness on all levels, so you can enjoy a Bugs Bunny cartoon one minute, and a serious documentary the next.

bubble for Yi-Long. Don't know who is disagreeing. Everything he says is absolutely spot-on.

Just a mature direction often with mature themes. This doesn't mean it has to have blood and gore and some dudebrah blowing a guy away with a sawn off shotgun. Mature really means a story driven game hat have grown up themes

Roccetarius3559d ago (Edited 3559d ago )

Personally, i believe that The Witcher games has a very mature direction, and it doesn't treat the player as a child (like most games released).

If you've played the games and read the books, then you know it's not just a simple game with nudity for the sake of it. Some of the scenes are pretty gruesome, but it's necessary to teach some a lesson.

Perjoss3559d ago

The writing plays a big part. If you compare the writing in Fallout 3 compared to Fallout New Vegas, sometimes I feel like my character in Fallout 3 is a child because of the way characters in the game speak to me. Vegas doesn't have the most mature writing of all games but it was a huge improvement over F3.

Scenes of explicit violence, nudity, language & gore

kneon3559d ago

That gets you a "mature" rating, but more often than not such games are rather juvenile.

Unnecessary and excessive violence, nudity, language and drug references really only appeal to teens and those with the mentality of one.

Ubisoft to Focus on "Return to Leadership" in Open World Genre, Expand Live Service Experiences

Ubisoft says they are focusing on two "core verticals," and that's to return as a leader in the open world genre, and live service games.

enkiduxiv3d ago

Calling Ubisoft a leader in open world gaming at any point in time would be like calling Dollar General a leader in retail.

excaliburps3d ago

Well, to be fair, they did pump out good open world games before. It was used as a template so much that people now know what it means when you say it's like an Ubi open world collectahon.

shinoff21833d ago

What though? I can't think of one game they had where I liked anything about it. Atleast since the ps3/360 Gen

Kornholic3d ago

If they have never been the leader in open world gaming, then explain me this: why does almost every open world game follow the same tired old Ubisoft open world formula?

Follow the Leader.

Aphrodia2d ago

YO dont' talk bad about the General. There'll be problems...

You were never the leader bro 🤣

shinoff21833d ago (Edited 3d ago )

I don't think they were ever the leader tbh. I've never really cared for any of their open world games. I do wanna try watch dogs 2 because it looks like it's set in San Fran. Looked interesting

How Many More Victims, Like Garry's Mod, Will Nintendo's Hurtful Crusade Create?

Hanzala from eXputer: "As Nintendo takes out 20 years' worth of stuff from Garry's Mod, I watch in shock, thinking why it continues to hurt and discourage its fans."

RiseNShine15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

The irony that some of the most disgusting business practices come from companies like Disney or Nintendo, i can't even begin to understand what terrible damage was Garrys Mod making to Nintendo bottom line, imho they're getting pretty nervous about where they're heading in the future, handhelds are no longer something exclusive to Nintendo, from Steam Deck to many others, now you can play the latest games and pay a fraction of the price on Steam sales, so it's up to their exclusives, which just on their own would make hard to justify purchasing a closed overpriced hardware with outrageous price policies (Super Mario Odyssey is still 60 euro 6 years later!), and as a home console they're always underperforming compared to Sony or Xbox.

gold_drake15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

i cam guarantee you, that their exclusives alone is what drives switch sales. they sell in the 10s of millions of copies.

nintendo created their franchises to be sort of nostalgia driven, exclusive only on nintendo.

people will always buy the pkmn games as they always bring in new younger fans amd is family friendly

mario kart, the same thing, mario games in general.

zelda games are system sellers. animal crossing for the casual gamers.

nintendo doesnt need third vame devs essentially. they made sure with the switch and the limitations that they looked more to pc ps and xbox.

its sad, but nintendo is more than fine with what they're doing. they positioned themselves to appeal to the more casual gamers.

but to your point, im not sure why they're doing this rly.

Inverno15d ago

Look at how they handled Nintendo games being streamed or uploaded on YouTube in the past. They killed Yuzu and Citra even when they had nothing to do with ToTK being leaked, not to mention it was basically unplayable on emulation the week it was leaked. Smash Bros tournament, that was fairly recent. They shut down their online services without any care for purchases made. I bought a switch after skipping their last 2 consoles and handhelds but I don't plan on buying anything Nintendo in the future. They take things to the extremes, they legitimately hate their fans. They're honestly right up there with the likes of Acti, EA, and Ubi, only difference is that they disguise themselves as being family friendly all the while being shady.
