The name of the game? Stardust Vanguards. The developers recently sent over a press notice explaining what the game is about and how it’s played, and after watching the trailer it’s easy to see how Stardust Vanguards could easily become one of those snowballing sleeper hits due to its unique premise and pretty slick gameplay mechanics."

Stardust Vanguards pits you against your friends in some local competitive gameplay that is a great deal of fun, though there are some cooperative and even limited single player options as well. The package has a minimalist vibe throughout and the game is well served by it, though perhaps a bit more effort in adding depth, story or online multiplayer would have served Stardust Vanguards best.
In an industry that’s unsubtly shifting to an always-connected, internet-required medium, it’s nice to see some (brave) developers stubbornly refusing to become dependant on their ethernet cables when making something multiplayer. Even more surprising is that they’ve made this an entirely internet-free affair. Stardust Vanguards, aside from having a fetching title, consists of giant mechs and starships battling it out with up to four players jumping into the mix. It’s a golden pairing that, while promising some tasty explosions, does position itself in a somewhat saturated corner of the market. Does Stardust Vanguards do enough to stand its ground in these heavily infested waters?
