Most retailers were offering a $30 to $50 gift card with the purchase of a 360 and Grand Theft Auto. And they still were outsold by the PS3. June is just gonna get worse with the return of the 80gb ps3, Metal Gear solid 4 and the $100 gift cards Walmart and Bestbuy are offering. Time to drop the price MS.

The Playstation Portable almost outsold the 360. What did the analists say, the PSP is past its prime and is on its way out. Looks like it it still selling well to me.

I think the most interesting thing is how close the psp sales are to the 360's. People always want to count the psp out, but it is selling about the same numbers as 360 and rules the roost over in Japan. DS is a juggernaut, and I don't think the psp will ever match it strictly on sales. But that doesn't make it any less of a success on it's own.

Actually I'd say the ps3 did fairly poorly only a 20k difference with mgs4 ? This was suppose to be ps3's messiah that bring down its wraith and destroy the 360 once and for all. Instead it barely makes a dent in the 360 lead.

And people have been buying ps3's to play mgs4 when it comes out for a while now. Or did you forget about all the fanboys bragging about their pre orders

Is it just me.. or are these numbers a little on the low side?

I mean.. April we didn't see a huge spike in hardware sales cause frankly GTA came out April 28th not giving enough time for the month... so we waited till May.. but may only brought ~200k consoles? I expected GTA4 to really push hardware sales for both consoles a lot more than ~200k...

so with the 20k more in NA, sony mite have actually beat microsoft by 200k for may. which is amazing! and with mgs releasing, they mite increase it in june aswell. or perhaps alot of people got their ps3 in may incase they thought there would be a chance of not getting one in june when mgs hits?? who knows?

well done to sony for may. but they now need to be selling wii like figures month in month out to really start making an impact. one thing is for certain....the ps3 is no ps2 or ps1 for that matter. if it continues to sell at this rate, it mite catch the ps2 in 2020

the console war could well be decided by the price of the consoles. and microsoft are the best position to hit the lowest point well before sony does...if microsoft got scared and chopped it down to a ps2 like price what whould happen then do you think??

look at the wii figures against the PS360 and they are simply astonishing especially coupled with the fact that GTA4 was released.

It doesn't matter how much people say "wii is selling because it's casual friendly" or "wii is selling because of the controller".

The bottom line is the Wii is selling because it's the next gen system at a LAST gen price. Keyword, PRICE.

I'm fairly certain nintendo wouldn't be in this lead if it had the same prices as the 360 or the ps3.

When you get to the bottom of it, the end result is all about who costs you the LEAST amount of money. And that happens to be the Wii.

Alot of people and me included don't look at the WII as a next gen platform and therefore not a rival to the PS360.But it is a big rival and a torn in the eyes of Sony and Microsoft.The revenue that console makes for Nintendo is what Microsoft has been dreaming of making since entering the console war and it's revenue that Sony once had and is longing to regain again.

I just pray that Sony and Microsoft maintain this route of making consoles with cutting edge hardware and not make a 520 or PS3.5 with some fancy controller due to the fact that the WII has been so successfull.

If you think SONy is not getting paid off of blue ray you are kidding your self and MS is making larger amount sof money from the game sales. The prices are not lowering and the fact that people want to buy the high end version even with out price breaks will put them on par with nintendo pretty quickly. You already have high end PC parts way cheaper than the stuff that the HD console have except the cell and blu ray drives are cheap on PCs right now? LOL both of these systems should be $300 or less right now. Why do that when it's still selling though. This is what investors where banking on and a reason I may get some stock from these guys. Profits are going to be crazy!

If Sony and MS cut lower they're price that mean less profit. Now both companies are being pressured to show profits in the gaming divisions this year, they can't really afford to. There may be a price cut but not a significant one. If these two companies want to stay in this business they need to make a profit, thats how it works. SO maybe a price cut before the holidays but not anytime before. But I highly doubt it.

But that goes to show you that GTA4 is still seen as more of a Sony game than a MS game even with the MS version selling more. Which also tells you that it sold more due to the install base of the 360 compared to the ps3 in America

a number of things. Personally, I think the install base is pretty saturated with 360's already. I think the increase in PS3 sales is probably due to a lot of great games coming out (multiplat or not) coupled with Blu-ray getting slightly more popular.

What I said is the reason devs are supporting the 360 in droves losing by 20 thousand isn't a big deal when it comes to hardware when a company is proving they can push software in massive numbers hence the PS3 getting owned when it comes to dev support. lol
