PlayStation Store Preview – August 19, 2014: Rygar on PS4

PSLS: This week, PSN Play continues with Counterspy. The once Xbox exclusive Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare arrives on PlayStation consoles this week, as does Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Edition. But best of all, the arcade classic Rygar comes to the PS4.

Ah, thanks for reminding me, I think I'm gonna prolly buy that game tonight. I love that they're giving most DLC for free. I'm also a huge fan of PvZ 1 on PS3, and I played a bit of 2 on the phone.

LOL, the original Rygar, I don't remember exactly how different it was from the NES version, but Rygar is a game I'll never forget. I can hear the theme song from the NES version playing in my head now. The NES version was basically a metroidvania game. Very cool, challenging and fun. The bosses and atmosphere were pretty original too. I wasn't in favor of the PS2 one, it seemed to be of poor production quality overall. I'd love for them to really bring it back though, like how Sony is working on a new Shadow of the Beast on PS4.

I might have to buy SAO day one, I've been dying to play this game and I really want to support the developers and the publishers!
Sucks that it's digital only. Sony needs to decrease those proprietary SD cards and breathe new life into the vita with some promotions.

I agree, it really should be cross-buy for all 3 platforms. But eventually, I'll buy it anyway. Not at full price though.

Seen a few live streams from Japan playing classic games like Rygar among other things on the PS4. Was wondering when they would start bringing them to the US. Would absolutely LOVE to get something like an expanded version of the Genesis collection on PS3 except for the PS4.

Ok, I just watched some youtube of it. Yeah, it's definitely not like the NES one, which would be hard to expect with it being an arcade game. It still has the fast action combat and bosses, but not the RPGish gameplay to it, just level based(understandably, again with it being an arcade cabinet game). I would really like them to work on a new next-gen one that maintains the NES version's metroidvania gameplay.
