Square Enix: No Plans for Star Ocean 4 on PS3

In a statement made on Yahoo Japan's financial site, the company affirms that there are no plans to release the just-announced Star Ocean: The Last Hope on the PlayStation 3.

I'll go with A. Seriously, Microsoft is getting ridiculous. They're obviously throwing money at all these companies to give the 360 rpg exclusives when the mainstream 360 gamer doesn't play rpgs. EDIT: that's not necessarily true Pumpkinpunker. That argument holds no merit. I mean, think about it. The Bioshock Devs essentially said the same thing and guess what...the game is coming in September/October for the PS3. They want to remain confidential about it to maximize sales on the console. They want to give the perception/appearance that it's only for the console and milk that console dry in terms of the amount of copies sold. After, they'll announce that it's coming out on system Y like they were shocked.

the difference is that Square Flatly DENIED that it would go multi-platform. Square didn't do the same thing for Star Ocean 4. They only said "No plans for a PS3 version", which is open ended and there's a possibility that it will come to the PS3. There's no hypocrisy in that.

I just wanna see atleast one game, which was ported from ps3 to x360.
There were a lot multiplatform releases, where ps3 system was a lead platform, but ps3 port to x360, NEVER.
That means, for x360 to get a ps3 exclusive game it need to be developed from the beginning.
And just for the records, short game like Lost Planet on the Multiplatform engine Capcom spend half a year for every version - pc and ps3.

Good luck for waiting ps3 games port on x360, But just for the records - after 1,5 year there were no ps3 ports on x360.

thing is thou about that milking, it pisses people off, if i were to buy a 360 for Star Ocean, cause i almost would, and it released to ps3 afterwards, after Square denied it like the company did for Bio Shock, i would be royally pissed at the fact that they lied, despite it being in development and saying its not....i personally don;t have the money to go buy a console to play games that I want, i bought a ps3 in hopes of playing my favorite games, i figured they would come out to the ps3, well MS is F*CKING me over every day spending the money on exclusives of my favorite games.... If MS would simply believe in and trust there console and let third party devs go multi-platform on games, i would consider saving up to get one, but as it stand now, i refuse to put a F'ing cent towards MS for anything what so ever...hence my non legit copy of Vista, among other MS games and software i've dled...for free....BTW i was gonna buy a 360 for Fable 2, i might just be patient enough to wait for it on PC...

You can tell by the ingame graphics this game is built from the ground up for the 360 the visuals are simply not seen on PS3 out side of CGI.

HAHA a JRPG on 360? It's gonna fail like just the other ones both in game review scores and sales. Because I don't much care for JRPGs. These look better though so perhaps I will like them. The main thing is that the Japanese developers should try to make sure you can tell the men from the women. I mean seriously, when I go to Japan I have no trouble telling the difference. Not sure why they cannot figure it out in a video game.

But if you mean RPGs then you are completely wrong. Oblivion and Mass Effect both sold well and are RPGs. In fact, Sony is the one that doesn't have any RPGs this generation. Right now I don't see that changing and since I like RPGs the most that is fine by me.

Lost Odyssey has some serious legs and is doing good on the X360 without a large install base in Japan.

Basically it ammounts to Square wants a larger fanbase in North America and the X360 has this. Microsoft wants a larger fanbase in Japan and Square has this. So both of them got together and said if we work together we can both achieve our intended goals.

When I said RPGs I meant to say JRPGs, sorry for not clarifying. Check my figures? I've looked at sales, most of them at least at VGChartz. JRPGs do not perform very well on the 360, even a game like Lost Odyssey which was hyped as an excellent JRPG (which it was) by the father of Final Fantasy, and it still hasn't even sold 500,000 figures in the US, easily the highest sold JRPG on the 360 and not even 500,000?? Sure those aren't terrible figures, but nothing close to sales of games like Mass Effect, which is a more American style RPG. Eternal Sonata which was another excellent JRPG that only sold 170,000 here. Blue Dragon, which was supposed to be another big JRPG release, sold 220,000. So I have checked my figures, and 360 owners can't say that there aren't any JRPGs because those are three right there that were good JRPGs, and were supposed to be significant releases.

Now games like Mass Effect obviously perform well, because those are games aimed at the American 360 market.

So once again, like I said, MS is trying to force down JRPGs onto 360 users hoping for success in Japan, when it hasn't helped them too much in the past. MS was even claiming 360 as the "home of the best rpgs" when they were pushing Lost Odyssey in March.

Newer consoles have been improved - it is just us original early adopters that got screwed. That is standard though so I am not bitter - sometimes you cannot wait.

Its great theat the 360 is getting loads of RPG's but i will give this one a miss. I used to love the jrpgs but they seem a bit stale to me now.
I prefer the western Mass Effect style now.

i prefer rpg and for me Tears to tiara and The Witcher (both ps3 exclusive) and maybe Mass Effect (PSW Rumor) are better than SO4 (maybe timed) exclusivity

I think you could wrap the 360 in bundles of Yen and still no one in Japan would buy one. Worse is that JRPG's rarely sell well in the US.

Microsoft should be playing to its strengths in the Domestic market where it could easily capture the growing legions of disillusioned Wii owners. As long as the 360 is stuck with a chintzy external power supply and a case that exudes that cheap plastic toy feel no one in Japan is going to suffer the shame of displaying one in their living rooms.

It will ship on 18 discs if that is in-game.

If anything, those are PS3 game screens. Something has to sell it. Cause FFXIII is the only game so far that looks close to CGI in-game from Square Enix.

They are really going after the Japanese market which might be a good move. If you look at it, Japan hasn't really jumped into the "next gen" console war yet (not counting the Wii). There are alot of sales to be had in Japan for Xbox or PS3. Xbox is getting the jump with some solid RPG titles. Really have to give MS props for the effort.

If MS wants to get serious they need to do a minor redesign that ensure the console is quieter (f'n DVD player) and if possible, incorporates the power brick. Not sure if it is possible without both GPU and CPU at 45 nm but that would make the difference IMO.

Lets be realistic. If you have a console and you make games for it and you see there are other companies that make games as well. Wouldnt you want games made for your system? Money changes hands in this business despite what you may believe. Sony saying they dont pay for exclusives is wrong. At least MS is up front about it because they dont have dev studios like they did. Sony may spend a little money on these up and coming indie devs and in return these devs make games for their system.

Isnt that (in some way) considered paying for exclusives? It isnt like these indie devs are saying, "here take our game and release it for your system and we wont take anything in return". Square making deals with MS is no different than them making deals with nintendo and sony. The legal aspect of the deals is something we will never know unless there is disclosure from all parties involved.

I would like to see the only exclusives be the ones that come directly from the first party devs. All 3rd party games should be open to all gamers regardless of system. So by that logic....the next bungie game should be multiplat just as the next insomniac game is too.

Just like with Bioshock and Mass Effect the game will come and eventually Gears of War.
Besides the best RPG is FFXIII and that's a PS3 Exclusive so I'm not complaining.

I Have all three systems but I prefer to use my PS3 over my 360. However I wont be completly dissapointed if one game becomes exclusive to one system as long as a company puts there best effort to create a great with out cutting corners and they Develop it to the strength of the system.

With that being said if you look at the Trailers for Square-Enix comming out on this current Genertion of console the Trailers usally say what system the games are comming out for at the end of the trailer for SO4 it says "for Xbox 360".
