Dreamfall Chapters no Longer Coming to Wii U or Xbox One

It looks like Sony has struck a deal with Red Thread Games to bring Dreamfall Chapters exclusively to the PS4. This means the Xbox One and Wii U will not be getting the game anytime soon, or at all. The title is still coming to the PC, Mac, and Linux

Barnaby-Jones3957d ago

Kinda seems messed up for all the people on Wii U who payed money in hopes of this game being on their system day one. Also goes to show 3rd party exclusivity isn't a one way thing.

iamnsuperman3957d ago

Well the Kickstarter was about making the game for linix/mac/PC so if Wii U gamers paid money for the campaign then that was stupid. The said they would look into a port to consoles and asked for Dev kits but clearly nothing came of it. But irrelevant there was no guarantee it was ever going to make it onto consoles

Big_Game_Hunters3957d ago

Nope. They said they received the dev kits and confirmed it for wiiu. Dirty move by the devs to accept the offer but also dirty of sony knowing full well some people crowdfunded this game hoping to play it on xone wiiu.
If you are one of those people saying MS is bad for buying tombraider exclusivety and you defend this, then guess what.... you are a hypocrite.

Barnaby-Jones3957d ago

But if it ever was coming to consoles it looked sure fire that it would be on Wii U day one for console release. Considering the fact that Nintendo was the first company showing prolonged interest in the game, it just seems kinda unfair.

@Big_Game_Hunters

Again your saying hope. The developer said they were in contact with Nintendo as they approached them but made no pledge for it. It is Kickstarter where there is no garentee of even a final product. What were Wii U users doing if there was no guarantee. I would be pissed if it wasn't coming to PC like they originally said. I am not defending anything. Merely pointing out that Wii U funders have no ground to stand on. They only talked about a possible console port and said they had Wii U dev kits (no release time frame nothing)

@barnaby-jones
Yes it is probably unfair for Nintendo to get shafted but obviously no deal was made by Nintendo (mistake on their part)

@iamnsuperman

I really don't know the details behind this so I'll need to do more research but based on that link that was posted below, If the dev really confirmed that the game was coming to the wiiu like that article states, and nintendo fans contributed to the project, then this is bullsh!t to a degree and I will NOT be supporting this game.

If sony approached them to make this exclusive after they committed to a wiiu release then they should have said NO! This is exactly what I was talking about 2 days ago. Granted, this may not be as bad as the tomb raider fiasco but it is bad non the less. I don't care what company does this type of thing, I won't support these type of practices, they are anti-consumer.

They gave their word for Christ sake. Are they going to give back all those nintendo fans their money? Like I said, I need to get more details so' i'm just going off of that news article in the link but so far I have to say I will not be buying this game.

@johndoe11211

Sadly, as we are witnessing, when money(hat) talks, they can throw their "word" out of the window. Words mean nothing without a contract.

pinkcrocodile753957d ago (Edited 3957d ago )

Probably a timed exclusive like Rise of The Tomb Raider, unless Sony buy the studio or the IP.

Though since I made the decision to add a PS4 to sit next to my Xbox One, I don't really care.

My advice to anyone unhappy with TR exclusive deal... but an Xbox One, you won't regret it.

If however Ninty contributed to the development in anyway, I see a law suit happening.

Christopher3956d ago (Edited 3956d ago )

Sucks this isn't coming to all consoles. But, some of you guys are wrong about this being promised. They've continued to say they've hoped for console releases. They've never said until now anything definitive. Though, they did play up the whole WiiU devkit. I don't know why they would spend all that time working on seeing if it is possible and can it.

To be honest, I'm not sure why Sony put money in this.

Edit: Also, how is a new IP to console the same as an IP that was previously released on the same consoles? Stop trying to make this about sony fanboys. If you hate this decision, tell them so. If you're just here to talk about sony fanboys, get ready to be marked as trolling and possibly a restriction.

I did not follow the story closely but I remembered the guy specfically saying that it would come to Wii U "if they could get it running" don't remember it being confirmed for Wii U...... Its clear Sony made a console exclusivity deal but it may not have come to Wii U even if Sony hadn't (it would have definetely come to Xbone though)

I doubt nearly anybody bought a WiiU specifically with Dreamfall Chapters in mind. It was primarily announced as a PC game and Nintendo only later showed interest in getting a version of it. I didn't even know it was originally due to come on WiiU until you said. But it's not good form if it doesn't end up later on the WiiU:

It doesn't sound like an XboxOne version was ever specifically promised though, it was just once deemed likely:

did the kickstarter have to fund more money for this project to reach the wiiU stretch goals? if that was, i feel sorry for wiiU fans. im happy its still available for ps4 though.

only played the last game and enjoyed it, cant say im a fan of the series though since i never played them and it is supposedly very different to the game i played.

I love the original the Longest Journey, haven't played the other games in the series though. I think its stupid to buy exclusivity for games like this though.... Microsoft's idea of buying one big exclusive like Tomb Rider makes more sense than buying 2 dozens of indies

hkgamer3957d ago

i think sony just wants as many exclusive indies as possible, its cheaper that way and those indie games do get a bigger spotlight.

tr didnt need the exclusivity. but it does seem liked a timed thing anyway, so thats a non argument.

Lenrulesdaworld3957d ago

Actually it did, they wanted more funding to make a bigger & better game. MS provided that, So being time everyone will benefit, its pretty clear from the artice interviews with phil & crystal dynamics.
