The Problems Of Adopting New Systems Too Early

Sean from Pixel Gate writes:

Buying into new consoles is always a odd experience. There’s a number of elements that come into play, mostly attempts to justify spending vast amounts of money on a system with barely any games. The chief feeling, and most welcomed, is excitement. There’s always a buzz when it comes to walking into the store and picking up the ‘next big thing’. I waited for months, pre-order slip in hand, counting down the days until the PS4 was released.

I have gotten every playstation available at launch and have never had a problem, its the ones expecting 400 games on launch that seem to be bothered by that kind of thing but I guess they are pretty new to gaming or about 11

I have no problems with Infamous: Second Son.... such a great game!

And there is no better experience than being part of historic revolution in video games when PS4 launched specially at these challenging times for console gaming!

The PlaySaviour 4 had a triumphant launch!

BattleAxe3964d ago

Whats so historical or revolutionary about the new consoles as compared to past generations?

I think you might be right with this generation being revolutionary, but for all the wrong reasons:

- More subscriptions than ever
- More remastered games than ever
- More cell phone quality indie games than ever
- The least amount of new AAA game franchises than ever
- The smallest incremental jump in graphics in the history of console gaming
- The most DLC inspired games in history
- The most micro-transactions ever seen

@miyamoto "when PS4 launched specially at these challenging times for console gaming! "

Challenging times for consoles?? HUH?? what? when? Did I miss something??
Console gaming has never been healthier, especially for the ps4.

ramiuk13963d ago

yep being part of what made console histoy is great,i have never looked at my ps4 and regretted it ever.

i have had something to play on since the day i got it .

Manio313964d ago

To be fair, a lot of the stuff coming out lately seems to be rehashes of stuff from last gen.

Doesn't mean someone is new to the culture, or 11 years old.

MRMagoo1233964d ago

Maybe you missed the gamescom sony conference? they showed a heap of new ips and yoshida said they have even more saved for TGS.

wsoutlaw873964d ago

I dont see the logic in waiting for more games to come out if I know I am going to buy it. Why not have it now and later when more games are out, rather than just later?

@Cobra: I don't think the price should be a reason for most people especially with the PS4. As long as it keeps selling that well I really don't see Sony dropping the price. So in the end you might end up waiting 2 years for a $100 price drop.

The only reason I can think of is if you're still undecided on which console to get. But even then you should've enough information to make a decision.

wsoutlaw873963d ago

@cobra
Price: what what 1.5 years to save 50$? I think most people would pay a small amount more to have something 1.5 years earlier
Fighting crouds? What?
The other stuff doesnt matter because you are still going to have it when the firmware is updated and games come out, plus you get it earlier to play games like infamous and killzone. You are just costing your self time with the console and gaining nothing. Like i said, illogical.

colonel1793964d ago

Even if there were 400 games at launch, I'd probably only like like 5, and even then, I can only play one at a time, so for me there is no problem either.

I just finished Infamous Second Son and got platinum, and right now i am looking into buying Persona 4 Golden for PS Vita. After that I might buy Assassin's Creed Unity, and then The Order 1886. So I am good.

The problem with new systems this generation is there is not enough "new" games...

The console manufacturers seem to be more interested in remastering, hd'ing, and re-making games then shipping "new" games...

I didn't spend $400-500 on each next gen console to play a bunch of games I have already completed.

XStation3964d ago (Edited 3964d ago )

Yeah there's problems, but things will get better eventually.

smoothdude3964d ago

For me there are just too many games that I still haven't played this generation. I own PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U so I don't really feel the need to go out an purchase a brand new console until Halo 5 and Uncharted 4 come out. Then I'll be buying both systems so I can get my gaming on.

Another reason that this generation is not exciting to me is that my PC already has Next Gen Graphics so it really all comes down to the games which include the Nintendo exclusives which I always end up playing.

PrinceOfAllSaiyans3964d ago

I love my PS4 people expecting hundreds of games only months into this era are just impatient. Has Sony ever let us down when it comes to exclusives ? Nope. I believe PS4 is going end up being my favorite console of all time replacing PS2

Square makes some very weird decisions.

CrashMania12h ago

This is really stupid and just baffling, the explanation for it is also a big non answer, very disappointing.

Scissorman10h ago

they are so going to try to sell the extra content later down the line.

Eonjay8h ago

Square Enix has really gone down the drain. Even FF7: Rebirth, while being an incredible acheivment seemed very sloppy in some areas... namely performance. These folks wonder why their games don't sell but aren't putting in a decent effort.

FinalFantasyFanatic8h ago

It's been like that for a while, they've just gotten progressively worse over time, this game is a bit of a monkey's paw situation. You get the remaster, but you don't get the War Of The Lions content in exchange.

-Gespenst-7h ago

They seem to be suggesting that people didn't like the new stuff in WotL, hence it's non-inclusion, but they're probably secretly planning to add it as DLC down the line, they just don't want to tell people that because they think it'll get an even worse reaction. When they do eventually add it, they'll be like, "We listened". Of course, it won't be free though, so they'll still get flak for it. On the other hand, maybe I'm too cynical.

ZeekQuattro6h ago

I could see that happening actually.
