Gamescom 2014: Kojima still Interested in Metal Gear Solid Remake

IGN - When asked if he's still interested in a potential remake of a Metal Gear Solid game, creator Hideo Kojima said he would consider doing so for the original title.

I love the first Metal Gear Solid and somehow I don't think it needs a remake. I would rather have them remake Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake so we can have the entire story in 3d(ish) gameplay.

I can still play, enjoy and love the original PS1 release.

YES. I couldn't have said it better myself. Recreating Outer Heaven and Zanzibarland in the Fox Engine, completely open, no loading screens, it would be amazing.

I always told my friends (since the MGS2 era) how much I would love to play the Snake vs Gray Fox fight in the minefield. I can picture all the epicness of the fight in my mind

I mostly agree. If there's anything remakes such as The Twin Snakes taught me it's that they're rarely even as good as the original. MGS1 is still awesome and I still like to play it. Twin Snakes? I think I played it three or four times tops. I don't think they should remake the first ones either though. I guess I could see a retelling of Solid Snake's debut since some things from the first games were retconned.

Yeah, a retelling would be just fine. I see where you are coming from, but I can see a lot of potential in gameplay from those 2 games in a 3D environment. They are the complete opposite of the new MGS5, as they are really closed environments, but it makes it for a really intense, close experience, plus I envision the boss fights as something as epic as the first MGS1, especially the Minefield battle agains Gray Fox.

I do love the original MG1 and MG2, but can't help but wonder how they would play in 3D form.

I would not mind the Twin Snakes remaster though!

One of my favourite games of all time.

Coming second only to The Last of US, this was the game that had be really emotionally vested. The bit where *semi spoiler alert* Meryl was getting shot by Sniper Wolf* and I couldn't do anything...I really wanted to help her p_p (mind you, Meryl had enough haemoglobin in her for 20 bodies lol). If this was real life, she would have disintegrated from the amount of times she got shot.

My heart was racing so frantically as I went back to get a sniper rifle. I could almost feel that Diazepam go down by gullet as I exacted revenge on Sniper Wolf.

Then for some reason, I pussied out of the torture scene. I went to school and someone told me that doing so meant that Meryl would die. So I started the game all over again...

But really...in my heart, I know I let Meryl die.

p_p

*cries in corner*

In the PS1 era I remember the 2 most stresfull/distressed moments being:

1- Aerith's death.
2- Meryl being shot.

Those two games show me how it was like to be really involved and invested in a game.

After going back through part of it in MGS 4 it would be interesting to see it in updated graphics. But I would much rather have MG1 and 2 redone. I want to play as Solid Snake in his very early days and help him become the legend he ends up being.

To paraphrase a former Newcastle United Manager "I will love it if Kojima remakes Metal Gear 1 & 2. Love it."

hkgamer3595d ago

Lol. What a troll title.

Kojima says he is not interested in remakes. But if he did it would be mgs1.

That aside. I think he should do the 2 metal gears. Would be the game where people don't complain about being too different.

Thoughts understand hisbattachment to mgs. It isbwhat made him who he is today. The first masterpiece he has made that got home global fame.

I’d have taken a few of those out. Prefer Sonic over Sonic 2. Outrun should be in there. Maybe even Pong as millions of people had fun with that even if it was repetitive. Final Fight pipped any Streets of Rage game, although Streets of Rage had the better soundtrack. Too many to list l guess. To me, retro gaming is the 1980s, maybe going into early 1990s.

Agree that the generational gap is too broad to really make a strong list. Need to tighten the years a bit. Hard to compare Pac Man with N64 games.
