Important Importables Review: Girls RPG: Cinderellife | GamerTell

From the review, "Your character may be living something of a modern day Cinderella story, looking for fame, love, and happiness. The Butterfly of Happiness is a real thing in the world of Neo-Ginza and, unsurprisingly, the player’s heroine is the one most likely to find it. It appears before her multiple times throughout the story, suggesting that her decision to upend her life to become a hostess in the hopes of finding true love is a good thing."

Please Don’t Aim Games about Hostess Clubs at Kids

Kotaku writes: My problem is not with Cinderellife as a game or even a concept. My problem is with the chosen target demographic.

Riiiiight. Where's the outrage over fashion industry games targeting little girls? Specifically modelling games? This article is manufactured controversy/outrage at it's finest.

This Japanese Video Game Sets Feminism Back, Oh, a Good Hundred Years

Kotaku: Girl's RPG: Cinderellife is the newest game by Level-5. Far from the puzzle solving of Professor Layton or the giant armored suits of White Knight Chronicles, this title is directed toward the female gamer demographic—just as the name suggests. But what exactly is a "Girls RPG," I wondered. Is it about a strong female protagonist, trying to make it in a man's world? Or is it a more stereotypical girl's tale about princesses, unicorns, and evil witches? Despite having one too many Y-chromosomes (or one too few X-chromosomes as the case may be), I decided I had to find out. But nothing could have possibly prepared me for what Girl's RPG: Cinderellife really is: a game romanticizing the life of a Japanese hostess. So please, join me in this insanity as I share with you my notes of the first hour of gameplay.

Hostess Clubs Are Invading Video Games (Host Clubs Too)

Kotaku: Last year at the Tokyo Game Show, Level-5 announced they were making an RPG on the 3DS specifically targeted toward girls. I was interested by the idea. What exactly is a "girl's RPG." Would it present girls with a strong female role model or would it just be a traditional princessy love story? But whatever I expected from Level-5, I never would have guessed that it would be set in a Japanese hostess club. I couldn't believe it.
