WiiU is Winning

Some have written off The Wii U too soon. This editorial makes a case that Nintendo's console is not only worth your time but may be winning this new generation.

Senseless clickbait article. I should have known better after just reading the title. None of the points justify the conclusion.

"The Wii U will not replace your Xbox One or Playstation 4 but it’s not supposed to. Nintendo is not trying to win the war this time around but in some ways they just might." And this right here is what you call being delusional.

Nintendo most definitely tried to win this war. They thought they could strike gold a second time coming off the heels of the wii, hence the reason they released a year before their other two main competitors. Unfortunately for them it didn't work out too well (which was really all their fault).

Not because they failed in their goal means we can just make up nonsensical excuses to cover up their obvious blunder. The wiiU is not winning anything. Right now and for the foreseeable future the ps4 is winning and by a huge margin at that. The WiiU is battling it out with the xbone for second place.

TheWackyMan3539d ago

Wii U has more worthwhile games than PS4 and Xbone combined.

kenshiro1003539d ago (Edited 3539d ago )

With the same rehashed franchises?

Disagree all you want but Nintendo needs to put down Mario and Zelda already.

rdgneoz33539d ago

The WiiU has a ton of big name multiplats not coming out on it's system in the next 6 months.

No Far Cry 4, Evolve, Destiny, Shadows of Mordor, The Crew, Lords of the Fallen, Dark Knight, Dying Light, Witcher 3, MGS V, DA Inquisition, Project Cars, COD Advanced Warfare, AC Unity, Evil Within, Alien: Isolation, etc...

gaffyh3539d ago

Considering they've already been outsold by the PS4 and lost a massive amount of market share from the Wii, I honestly don't think they're winning in any sense. Sure they might have more games available, but that's because they came out a year before. In a couple of years, that advantage will be completely gone.

All_Consoles3539d ago (Edited 3539d ago )

Kenshiro, compare zelda NES to zelda WiiU
Compare mario 1 to super mario galaxy
Even super mario galaxy to super mario 3d world is a completely different experience
Splatoon, xenoblade, pushmo, bayonetta, Hyrule warriors, captain toad. Nintendo is always delivering fresh experiences yet they always get hate for it

retro_3539d ago

Fast forward a year and repeat that statement if you can.

Vegamyster3539d ago

@kenshiro100

If they continue to sell high numbers why would they do that? It's not like that's all the Wii-U has, there is several good games unrelated to them.

GordonKnight3539d ago

I'm the real winner with all three consoles.

Wii U>PS4>X1

Chrischi19883539d ago

Well, this article asks for fanboy war^^ I love my Wii U, but I wouldnt say that :)

You see, I dont own a PS4 or Xbox1, but a Wii U. But I own a pretty good PC. This is why the Wii U is the best as secondary device.

If you have a PC, no need for PS4 or Xbox1, if you have a PS4, no need for a gaming PC or Xbox1, if you have a Xbox1, no need for a PS4 or PC.

If you think about getting a secondary device, it is only logical to chose the one, which offers most of what you cant get anywhere else. 3rd Parties is what you get anywhere, but the Wii U, so why get a PS4, if you already have a PC? For 1 game? No. At the end of the day, the biggest variety of exclusive games and big titles you wont see anywhere else, is Nintendos plattform. Best 1st Party. This is why it makes the best secondary device. So if you think about it, if everybody would get a Wii U as secondary device, it would still sell more than any of the primal devices. At the end of the day this means winning. But I know this wont happen, so whatever :)

GordonKnight3539d ago

@Chrischi1988

Your logic is correct, but shouldn't the Wii U be the primary device? Because the other devices are for 3rd party games.

superchiller3539d ago

@TheWackyMan - No, it doesn't. Unless you're a diehard Nintendo fan (a dying breed these days), Wii U offers very little for the money. The console itself is woefully underpowered and lacking in even the most common features (internal HDD and Ethernet port, to name two, but there are many more). The game selection is poor, unless you like Nintendo first party rehashes. The Wii U is probably the worst console to release in the last 20 years, a system completely based on a distracting gimmick that no one wants.

MysticStrummer3539d ago

"Wii U has more worthwhile games than PS4 and Xbone combined."

If that's true for you then that's great, but if people agreed then WiiU would be selling much better. I personally have no interest in Nintendo exclusives.

Shnazzyone3539d ago

@ken

Sigh, Wonderful 101, zombiU, bayonetta 2, Pikmen 3, Monster Hunter 3U.

That's about 4 more games than can be found on ps4/xboxone that both cannot be found anywhere else and also are not based on zelda or mario. Meanwhile there have been 7 God of war titles since 2005, 7 Call of Duty titles since 2008, 7 halo games since 2001, 6 assassins creed games since 2007. Who's milking their franchises again?

paul-p19883538d ago

@Shnazzyone

Look at this list of games containing Mario:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

If you still think other companies milk their franchises more than Nintendo after reading it I will be shocked...

Shnazzyone3537d ago

@paul

Yeah, he's a character who's been around for over 30 years and is nintendo's primary mascot. How many of those games were actually bad? That's the real question. With the exception of phillips cd-i and some of the edutainment games. Meanwhile, all those franchises I mentioned have at least 1 black sheep.

Regardless of how much they use mario, they make sure the games he's in these days are good games. That's honestly all that matters. So, get over it. They're nintendo. They're gonna make games with mario in them. As long as their good games, who cares.

Nintendo confused their primary market of soccer moms, retirement homes, and pre teens, with the launch if the wii u. The retarded iPad of a controller I imagine turned a lot of people away, i think they felt overwhelmed by it.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3539d ago (Edited 3539d ago )

Nintendo didn't confuse nobody but people called themselves gamers.
Who made articles on whether or not wii u is an add-on or a new system.

Casual dont surf the web for the newest gaming goods unless they are morphing into one.

BiggerBoss3539d ago

Is this comment even in English??

OT: no doubt Nintendo has some great games on the Wii U, but the lack of third party support makes it unappealing to a lot of gamers.

Looking Ahead: The Lingering Questions About the Next Mario Kart

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "10 years. It’s been almost 10 years since the last mainline release in the Mario Kart series. Mario Kart 8 came out for the Wii U in 2014 and became the best-selling game for the system by a sizeable margin, and later pulled the same magic trick on the Nintendo Switch under the stage name Deluxe. All in all, it's sold nearly 70 million copies over the last decade and is still selling like hot cakes to this day, so it’s no wonder Nintendo has been in no rush to replace it. However, with rumors of a new system being just around the corner, and reports a few years back that a new Mario Kart is indeed under way, it seems the era of 8 might very well be drawing to a close. It’s an exciting prospect to be sure, but after two Nintendo systems with Mario Kart 8 at their heart, a lot of questions remain about how Nintendo will choose to follow it up."

I hope they just keep building on Mario Kart 8; Add a track-creation tool, and probably open it up to more Nintendo IPs with new tracks and characters, so Metroid, Punch Out, Starfox, Animal Crossing, etc etc.

gold_drake7d ago

there wont be a new one until the switch 2 comes out.

nintendo needs their bangers early on
