Why You Should Play Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag

Nintendo Enthusiast: "Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag was possibly the best surprise in my gaming life since I downloaded this weird Ocarina of Time game people wouldn't stop talking about four years back. By this point, I have played Assassin's Creed 4 three times in a row. Even as I tried to go back and play some of my favorite games of all time, I couldn't get into them; at the moment, Assassin's Creed 4 has spoiled me against all other games. It's truly rare that I love a game as much as this.

I honestly expected to hate it. I'd heard so many conflicting things about the series that I didn't know what to expect. Apparently, the combat was awful and tailing missions were the devil. I knew that much going in. I'd also heard from some people that the story was awesome, and from others that it was rather less so. Some said the freerunning was boring; others called it almost revolutionary. A friend finally convinced me to give it a try, and looking at how cheap it was to buy used, I decided to go for it. As it turned out, this wound up being an excellent decision. Black Flag is every reason I play games and is one of my favorite games of all time. So in an attempt to convince some of those who refuse to try out the series to give it a shot, here's why."

I just picked this up not that long ago for my Wii U. I have to 100% Assassins Creed 3 on Wii U before I start 4 though.

After reading this, the writer has me excited to getting around to playing it.

Metallox3928d ago

Yeah, but you shouldn't play it on Wii U. Bad frame rate, no DLC, dead multiplayer... I mean, no.

81jono813928d ago

I never experienced the bad frame rate, personally. And the big map on the Gamepad screen was incredibly helpful.

You're definitely right about the DLC, though. I quite wish I could play Freedom Cry. And for those who enjoy AC's multiplayer, you're right about that, too.

KaladinStormblessed3928d ago

Wrong about multiplayer. I play the multiplayer everyday on my wii u and while there aren't a ton of poeple on you still get into games just about right away. And there is nothing wrong with the frame rate.

marloc_x3928d ago

No frame rate issues here..

1nsaint3928d ago

i would play it too, i even tried, but the frame rate was so terrible i thought my pc was having issues. i can run pretty much every game on high settings, bioshock infinite on ultra is no problem.

but for some reason AC4 is just not working, i looked it up online and loads of people can hardly play it cause its very poorly optimized for PC

DryBoneKoopa853928d ago

@Metallox: See, I don't get cought up on that stuff. As long as the core game is good then I'm satisfied.

Sure the DLC part sucks but if I enjoy it a lot I can always pick it up cheap for my Xbox One or PS4 and buy the DLC that way.

I'm trying my hardest to support third party on Nintendo consoles. Wan't to be part of the solution for better third party support and not the problem by not buying any of their games.

Have fun with it, it's a lot of fun, especially the naval battles!

starchild3928d ago (Edited 3928d ago )

You should definitely make sure to get around to playing it as soon as possible. It really is an absolutely fantastic game in my opinion. One of my favorite games too.

I can't wait for Assassin's Creed Unity. I don't care what any of the contrarians say, as long as the Assassin's Creed games continue to be so damn enjoyable I will continue to play them.

BattleN3928d ago

WiiU is ok especially the map on gamepad is cool

joab7773928d ago

On PS4, it's simply stunning. I just couldn't believe it when I first saw it. Can't wait to see Unity.

Which games, in your infinite wisdom, are great games?

rodiabloalmeida3928d ago

The list is huge. AC IV is not one of them. How about TLoU, for example?

Metallox3928d ago

I'm going to show you a "crappy" game. https://www.youtube.com/wat... Black Flag isn't by any measure a bad game. You may not loke it, which is a very different story.

sweendog3928d ago

That was awful! Its that bad I want to play it just to experience the other end of the spectrum

sprinterboy3928d ago

Not a big fan of assassins creed but enjoyed black flag alot and completed 70% of the game

melosense3928d ago

The game becomes pretty boring VERY fast, this one lacks depth in every aspect, beautiful facade, BUT, nothing inside!!! Simple mechanics, story, gameplay(((
Such a sad thing that new generation is fond of this shit.

starchild3928d ago

Ok, so which games should we be playing? Which games are good in your opinion?

I've played hundreds of games from virtually all genres and I've formed my own opinions about which games I like, but please tell me which games are actually good so I can correct my error and start playing good games.

Seriously, though, I'm disgusted by gamers like you who think only their ideas about what makes a fun game apply.

I'm sorry, but I've been gaming since the mid 80s and I can virtually guarantee you that many of the games you think are so great are games that I find lacking in many ways.

What some of you don't seem to understand is that we all look for different things in games and we all perceive things differently and have our own preferences.

sweendog3928d ago

Stop attacking people for not liking this game its their opinion. I didnt like it after around the 5 hour mark. I realised that roaming for treasure got me hardly any gold as I could get a lot more using my phone in naval missions it made exploration pointless.

What games do we recommend you play? God knows, but by the sound of it you have been gaming long enough to figure that out for yourself

desy643928d ago

I agree but hey, to each its own.

Glad they didn't change the art style. This is looking good.. Why did they change the way the characters look anyway? The very first style was kind of ok, it was fine by Risky's Revenge and Pirate's Curse.. both in game sprite and the dialogue popups, why keep changing it? I am not as fussed on her newer look. She's looking kinda too dark or sunburnt now.

I loved Gex, but man.. not like that. Not like that. 😦

coolbeans9h ago(Edited 9h ago)

You just can't handle 36 (inflatable) inches of Gex.

Tacoboto6h ago

Yeah what's wrong with an inflatable Gexdoll?

gold_drake12h ago

afternoon gex is also very nice ha.

OtterX9h ago

Oh boy, so that's what they meant by "Enter the Gecko". 😬

koko_198816h ago

Only if Toys for Bob has done the remaster. This one is just a port with widescreen support which can be done easily with duckstation and other emulators, stable framerate which also can be done with duckstation via CPU emulation option and slightly better analog controls. I hope at least this release will have crt shader support, which by the way duckstation and other emulators like retroarch also have. I know I am repeating my self but ps1 emulation is so good in 2025 that u can play most of the games with widescreen, stable 30fps and even 50 or 60fps if lossless scaling is used.

OtterX8h ago

So basically what you were hoping for was a full-on Gex-Change? 🤔😉

CRASHBASHUK12h ago

it is having a digital ver right?

Simon's Quest is better than Symphony.

If you're gonna troll, at least make a legitimate attempt.

Levii_921d 3h ago

Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.

Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.

LG_Fox_Brazil11h ago

That's a pretty fucking great list

__y2jb10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.
