The 22 Best-Reviewed Games That Don't Have Sequels (Yet)

It's the unwritten rule of the video game industry: "Have Hit, Will Franchise." Of the 441 video games on review aggregator Metacritic with a rating of 90% or above, 419 have been developed into a series, or are already part of a franchise themselves.

That leaves only 22 universally acclaimed single video games— not counting, of course, games that predate Metacritic's aggregation, which only extends as far as the Nintendo 64/PlayStation era. Still, games predating the late 90s were orphaned far more often, making these later exceptions all the more interesting.

Which is your favorite? Did they leave one of your choices out?

Mark of the Ninja is one of my favorites on the list. It is a game I bought on a whim that ended up being excellent. I truly hope they are working on a sequel.

Red dead redemption is a sequel of read dead revolver

@BiggerBoss There is a difference between continuation of an IP and a sequel dude. GTA 5 is not a sequel to GTA 4. Same IP, not a sequel as they are completely unrelated.

Shadow of the Colossus was awesome, would be great to see a sequel for it. Climbing those giants and finding the way to defeat them was so cool while challenging at the same time. The world was beautiful too.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
Remember Me
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
