Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee is considered by many to be one of the timeless classics of video games. It’s one of the rare games that has a deep, meaningful message that is able to resonate with many players, without being overly preachy or condescending. It’s a game about returning to traditions, while fighting off a vast consumer based culture that values profit above all else, yet is able to remain grounded with a unique sense of humor. However, since Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath, there has not been a truly “new” addition to the Oddworld franchise. Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty is a clear attempt to see exactly where the Oddworld franchise stands and is a testament to just how well Abe’s Oddysee stands up today.
Starting today, Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty is free at Epic Games Store. The free game offer runs until December 19 at 11 AM Eastern. Once you claim it, it’s yours to keep.
"If you're a 2D puzzle adventure aficionado who doesn't already own Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty on one of the half dozen consoles that it's currently available for then it'll make for a worthy purchase but those who do have it will find little reason to get it again on Switch." - A.J. Maciejewski from Video Chums
WTMG's Heidi Hawes: "All Oddworld: New ‘N’ Tasty! managed to do was frustrate me. However, it did make me appreciate the controls in Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee more. Honestly, if you’re new to the franchise, it might even be better to just skip ahead to Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath. At least those gameplay mechanics feel like something more from this era. That being said, if you’re a die hard fan of Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee or perhaps just a glutton for punishment, then perhaps try your luck with Oddworld: New ‘N’ Tasty!."
When is this suppose to be coming out?
not really liking the new angles and judging from the review it sounds like the games stage is all interconnected into one map unlike the original where it had several different screens.
im not sure i liked that since having different screens felt more like a puzzler, the newer ones looks like a platformer. im saying looks because of how the camera moves along with you, the actual gameplay seems identical.
