Wouldn't work with my father. The only time he beat me at a game was when he literally made me sit on the game and punched me saying: "There, I've beaten you at your game".
It's an awesome thing to have a ghost like that. Makes me kind of wish more games would permanently record ghostlike gameplay to re-live.
@Kenshin_BATT0USAI: This translates literally and properly in my native language, I could've done a better job at translating probably, though the pun was perfect in original.
My pop just passed a couple months ago but he wasn't a gamer so I have no chance of this ever happening to me. It would definitely be eerie though. If he did and I caught his ghost I would've sprayed him with my exhaust. My pop wouldn't have wanted it any other way. He was a character.
I can see this possibly happening with my son one day. We are both gamers. But let's be honest here. He wouldn't get close enough to even see my ghost!
Seriously though. This is an incredible story definitely got a lil knot in my throat when reading it.
This folks, is a clinical example of a case of addled brains due to overfapping. Good sir, I do believe it would do you some good to put down the internet connection and go outside. Maybe plant a tree or take up kayaking.
I love how much hate he gets just for getting first comment and saying nothing negative. Some of you who get mad need to take a break. Bubs for harmless comment.
Does sound Sad. My dad never played video games, but always used to watch me play them (except the really violent/graphic ones). He especially enjoyed watching play the uncharted games, saying it was more entertaining watching this than all the crap reality shows. He passed away back in 2011, and to this day still miss it when he is not there watching.
Oh BTW XiSasukeUchiha, Septic posted earlier:
Just imagine him doing that for a moment. Staring at the screen and waiting for his dad to beat him. Ah man I'm teary. Hold me XiSasukeUchiha
Wow. That's probably the most emotionally touching story related to a video game I've ever heard in my life. I can say that if that were me, that Xbox console and that game would be come the most valuable thing in the world to me and I'd never be rid of it just to preserve that last remnant.
What a sweet and touching discovery. The reminisce of a time long past is resurrected. It's like going back into a time machine and playing against his dad, but as an older and more seasoned gamer. With this experience comes the small window of opportunity to peek into, analyze, and imagine what type of gamer his dad was based on his playing style.
Great story, but it for some reason made me think of a game universe in which the dead live on and they are simulated based upon how they played and their personality so essentially the Matrix of those passed. Turing Test meets the Matrix. Also yes I did get emotional first time hearing it.
Wow. This gave me chills. I lost my dad back in '03. We used to have such a good time taking turns and playing co-op together. I can picture him now looking down at the PS2 controller to see which button to press. Sometimes I forget those good memories and it's nice for something like this to remind me.
This is truly sad and I'm glad that he has great memories like that to remind him of his dad. I had a fellow employee I hired years ago who was a gamer and we where friends on xbox live he just got accepted to college that summer he had so much going for him the week before Christmas he got into a fatal car accident and to this day I never removed him from my friends list.
Thank you my employees come first and all I want for them is to be successful and happy I hate losing them when they move up transfer go to college and but I always try and encourage them to be there best. Actually hurts to see his gamer tag on there during the holiday season he was such a great kid and felt so bad for his mother
hmm wow well things happen glad my dad is still alive and kicking, make sure to spend as much time as possible with your loved ones, they dont last forever
First of all r.i.p This is pretty cool but sad at the same time. It's cool cause the son can be besides his dad racing even if it's through a game,it's better than nothing. A lot of us once we lose a loved one, can't share this same experience. Think about it....
i remember those days when my dad and the three of us (his kids) take turns playing super mario bros.. :( now i miss him so much..to all my fellow community who still have parents one or two..make sure you spend time with them and cherish every second coz once they're gone its too late to realize it..
It is sad, miss gaming with my Dad too... Although he used to prefer games like Dig Dug etc he set a few high scores I never wanted to beat but always 2nd best to.
And another thing. Games have been pointed at in the media for bringing about violence. Gaming according to those smallminded people is responsible for school shootings and the increase of violence in the streets. Now, this story is a great story about what gaming really is. It brings happiness, brings people together and sometimes, like in this case, it does so much more than that.
I forgot about that game, I used to play it with my stepdad when the Xbox was first released. He bought one for some reason, despite never playing games or ever seeming to be interested in them :S
Well, this guy was lucky! I lost my dad at age 20, and at the time we didn't have the type of games that had the "ghost" function. Instead all I had of gaming with my dad is the memory of playing Atari 2600 Pac Man with him...I guess at least I have other memories too, but having something he was doing on a game would be great..glad this guy has this and hope he never gets the ring of death, however there are ways to fix ring of death...
One of the most touching stories surrounding videogames and definitely giving the medium a positive spin for once. It brought a few tears...a torrential, fluvial downpour to my eyes. Beautiful story, thank you for sharing.
Makes me think are we all going to have reminders of gone loved ones like this in future. Only after watching season 2 of black mirror it a uk programme and it touches on this very subject of technology recreating a loved one action. In it a wife loses her husband and a friend tells her about software that uses all his online history to minic responses he would do to any question she could ask him.interesting programme I thought into future but already software has already moved us in ways we would not imagine.
Do my dad is still alive thank god. Looks like he's not going anywhere soon (I really hope not...) and I'm like a month off being 20 a few years older than this guy. And I remember about this time 14/15 years ago my father randomly brining a Playstation 1 home with the original Rayman and Fifa and colin mcrae and gran turismo 2. I remember playing games on there all the time with my father. As time went on however he plays games less and less and fewer games have decent splitscreen/ccop anyway. But reading this makes me think back to those times and it's funny because I'll always have the super mario bros minigame hidden on mario and lugi superstar sega that he set the most ludicrously high score on to this day I can't beat his ghost and score :P and in years to come I doubt I will either.
Must have felt like good old times racing his dad after such a long time. Makes me want to play more games with my kids. Like one of my friends said to me after reading this, 'every time I set a new lap record on time trial I will think of this'.
Now that's a ghost you do NOT want to beat in a race.
It must been sad for the kid who was racing "that" car!
It beats twilight love story :’(
He still there racing with him and always beating him.. that's one console il never give up..
