The Wii U’s upcoming release calendar should fill Nintendo fans with dread

By Brad Reed: "The release of the critically acclaimed Mario Kart 8 gave the Wii U a nice sales boost but Nintendo can’t rely on just one game to make the Wii U relevant. This is why when we look at the calendar of upcoming Wii U releases, we get a sinking sense of dread, especially because we still don’t have a confirmed release date for the new Super Smash Bros. game yet."

It doesn't. You're talking major third-party games and not even mentioning the amount of Indies that are being released for Nintendo. Yeah, their competitors have some good software coming, but it's not as bad as you're making it out to be.

Let's just agree to disagree.

I bought the Wii U with MK8 because the holiday lineup looked pretty good to me... unless dread is another word for excitement, I'm not really sure what the author is talking about.

I own a good gaming PC and a Wii U and I am actually curious, what games it are, that make me buy a PS4 or Xbox One. As many say, I wont buy a console for 1 game :)

I will get all important 3rd Parties on PC and if it comes to exclusives, nobody wins against Nintendo, not even close.

Then people always say, they dont buy a Wii U for one game... Ok. Donkey Kong TP, Zelda, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Mario 3D World, Star Fox, Metroid, Bayonetta, Splatoon, Xenoblade... hmm, all must haves and as I count, not just one game^^

And there are more to come we dont even know anything about yet.

Don't forget Devil's Third!

edit: Destiny is a reason you should buy a PS4 or Xbox1

edit 2: haha oops I just saw you said that 1 game wouldn't be enough. Destiny is still a decent reason.

Wonderful 101 is a must have as well once you get used to the controls.

It is funny, that the author makes up a problem, like 40% of the games that come to Wii U also come to other consoles. Not that this are not correct numbers, but it is about 70% or more, that comes for PS4 or/and Xbox1, that also release for the other consoles. You all act like Xbox One and PS4 sit in one ship, but they also compete, it is not like Xbox One + PS4 against Wii U, I somehow think people forget that.

I believe Destiny will come to PC sooner or later, just like all said there is no GTA5 for PC and acted like they were suerior because of that, but in reality they made the PC version the definit version, coming out with the next gen games. At least nobody can act like GTA5 wont look as good as on PS4 this way, because if it came back then, it would just have improved PS3 graphics...

PS4 and Xbox One have a terrible 2014 lineup, unless you like multi-platforms (which are all gonna be on PC).

There's quite a bit of exclusive releases from this year to scheduled release of 2015. Knowing the consistent (albeit slow) stream of quality they've produced for the system, most are really must-own games for anyone with a wide variety of taste, or for any diehard nintendo fan.

Bayonetta 2, Splatoon, Star Fox, Hyrule Warriors, Smash Bros, Xenoblade X, Mario Maker, Kirby's Rainbow Curse, Captain Toad, Yoshi's Wooly World, The Legend of Zelda, Fatal Frame, Sonic Boom, Devil's Third, anything i may be missing :P

Obviously not including unannounced stuff or indies.

fix'd

Hyrule warriors and fatal frame for japan. 3 to 5 studios have not announced their games yet.

iplay1up21555d ago (Edited 1555d ago )

"40% of games coming to Wii U will be on other platforms" Yes and that means that 60% will only be on Wii U. Now with Fatal Frame coming out in the East in Sept, Wii U owners in the West might see it come out here as well, sometime soon after I for one hope so.

Also the Wii U has the largest library of exclusive games out compared other next gen systems right now anyway of coarse it should its been out longer. Anyone picking up a Wii U for MK8 has an awful lot of games to catch up on anyway.

As for SSB at E3 it was state the Wii U version would be out Holiday 2014.

As for Halo, well they have already remade 1 and 2, now they are doing them over yet again, Been there done that. As for 3 and 4, they may be worth a look, but I am not picking up XB1, I have WiiU/PS4 they will keep me plenty busy, and I do not need a 1985 VCR looking thing Next to my shiny PS4/Wii U.

Starbucks_Fan1555d ago

2 hasn't been remade before. i think there's a lot of hype for the game because this is the first time people can play it online since the original Xbox service went down years ago.

LOL_WUT1555d ago

As I said before I'm only looking forward to Smash Bros. which is very telling as Nintendo needs to keep their momentum going. Another thing is I know lots of folks here like to blame 3rd parties for not wanting to bring their games but Nintendo is just as guilty with their lack of support towards the VC ;)

wonderfulmonkeyman1555d ago

Nintendo's lack of lots of vc games each month is a bit of a flaw, but please, wut, let's not kid ourselves here; it's nowhere near as bad as the third parties habit of doing nothing but gimped games for their wii u multiplat efforts.
At this point, their multiplats not coming to the wii u isn't even a detriment to the system, because they would all be gimped, and gimped ports do more harm than good to both third parties and the wii u.
If they could make them worth buying by not gimping them, it would be a different story.

weekev151555d ago

Hyrule Warriors, Bayo 2 (third party exclusive with pack in Bayo 1), Smash, Captain Toad, Watch Dogs(if you didnt pick it up already) plus you can have kids games like Skylanders, Disney Infinity and Just Dance.

The line up for 2014 aint too bad and then when you move on to 2015 with Xenoblade, Devils Third, Zelda U, Splatoon, possibly Starfox, Kirby, Yoshi's wooly world....thats a pretty solid lineup as far as I can see.

N4g_null1554d ago

Lol u mmmmmmm those vc games have to be approved by 3rd parties.

wonderfulmonkeyman1555d ago

This article is what I was talking about in a past one; the system is picking up speed and it's got haters panicking, hence these articles keep popping up to try and discredit all the good stuff coming up.

Clown_Syndr0me1555d ago

Damn I want a Wii U, but I cant find a reason to buy it yet. I don't like anything Mario, never played Zelda...
I know I will definayrly buy one if the new Fatal Frame/Project Zero is localised.

Monster_Tard1555d ago

Really you've never played a Zelda game? you're missing out on some of greatest games ever.

Clown_Syndr0me1555d ago

Well actually that's not entirely true. I played one on the N64 but I didn't get far, I think zi was too young.

Theyve just never appealed to me. I like RPGs, I think its the childish art style that bothers me. The latest one looks interesting though.
