OT: Can't believe people pay for Live, isn't it supposed to be nearly invincible due to the Azure cloud stuff?

Man, can you imagine what would happen when millions of people are trying to access the cloud for playing their games and streaming heavy data 24/7? If XBL cannot even handle one day of people downloading destiny, it has no chance with mainstream adoption of cloud computing, which will be FAR more intensive bandwidth wise.

Systems go down, it's a certainty in life. It's how the company handles the crisis and get back up and running in hours instead of days that makes the difference. Can someone teell me how long each one has had downtime this time round, from first reports of a service outage to resolution for both Microsoft and Sony?

As for services, I've had a go of a PS4's PSN and it was ok, but I prefer the Xbox One's XBL. I've found PSN lacking on multiplayer, wheras XBL was always solid for me.

I know people compare fewer free games etc and paywall as a negative but for me its always been about the multiplayer experience.

I suppose each company plays to their strengths.

Sony is the hardware and asthetic king in my view where Microsoft like a lot of American products are big an clunky, just look at American cars (great in a straight line but can't handle for sh!t).

However where the game changes is in software and UI design. This is Microsoft's strength and always has been (Though I do opt for 80/20 in favour of Redhat for my server enterprise). Sony in this area sucks arse, always has and always will, not because they don't care but because its not their core business.

Pretty much a 50/50 between the two companies.

There really is no need to freak out.. Chill pills all round.

My internet was horrendous last night, PSN wouldnt work for a few hours and on the laptop i was down from 40mb to only 2mb on speed tests, and my mobile data was terribly slow too. I wonder what caused all these issues.

You're reaching buddy, it says social and gaming UP AND RUNNING. Is psn up and running yet? Whenever anyone contacts MSFT they issue status reports and then update in 30 minutes. Don't try to shift the focus off the psn service being down.

From time to time the store may go down or there may be other isolated incidents, but I can still GAME online. XBL is still superior because the ball keeps rolling, while when psn is down, you all come to n4g.

services limited =/= not able to play online
PS you know xbl is superior when all the fans have to rush in the one time services are limited (as in tv and the store, you can still play online). On the other hand we regularly see scheduled maintenance and lame excuses like high volume for reasons psn is down.

I normally don't mind live being down just because I can play offline but for some reason I can't even save game progress now. Since when is saving tied to being online? I could be wrong about this. I've noticed that when games have available updates they are unplayable until they've been updated. So if there is a pending update, and live is down you wouldn't be able to play until live was up and running.

I'm calling BS on this article. I just got done playing with some friends who were playing their X1's all day. There may have been a couple of apps that were out, but 99% of the service was working.
