Unreal Tournament 4 release expected alongside Unreal Engine 4.0 completion

VGB writes: [Unreal Engine] Version 4 will exclusively target the next console generation, Microsoft's successor for the Xbox 360 [AKA Xbox 720], Sony's successor for the PlayStation 3 [AKA PlayStation 4] - and if Nintendo ships a machine with similar hardware specs [AKA Wii 2], then that also. PCs will follow after that."

cool

I wonder how the next gen will be like

Silellak5801d ago

My theory?

Even more bloom. Bloom on EVERYTHING. Bloom hides ALL GAME FLAWS.

Tomdc5801d ago

I expected Unreal tornament 4 to be released this gen

dan-boy5801d ago

i thought gears 3 mite be a launch title for microsofts next xbox...could well be the first title to use said engine, but mite not make the launch.

DeadlyFire5801d ago

UE 4 is coming in 2010-2012 sometime with Windows 7 in 2010 its likely the third generation of Xbox will be launched somewhere in 2010-2011. Gears 3 is also coming with UT 4 at some point in 2010-2011. Maybe not the first title though. All depends on what the new systems can do.

Blademask5800d ago

Less detailed characters, but more Normal Mapped details like bullets/clips.

It will all take place in the dark too, where the unreal engine shines.

I think that the Xbox 720 will be out before the PS4, so I wonder how this'll all go down. But anyway, it's too far into the future to predict ANYTHING yet :/

chasuk085801d ago

will playstation need a new console to handle unreal engine 4 ?? I know xbox will but will sony ?

Fishy Fingers5801d ago (Edited 5801d ago )

hmmm... well if you look at the current situation the 360 actually handles the Unreal Engine better.

Who ever disagreed, care to share why?

Yoma5801d ago

Well, it's about the engine. PS3 can perform better than 360 if the developer go for parallel work between GPU and CPU.

decapitator5801d ago

UE3 works very on both PS3 and 360 now. Of course, it *used* to be a bit problematic on the PS3 but Sony and EPIC have worked out the kinks so it's all good now. UE3 was perfected for the PS3 when U3 launched.

MisfitSmurf5801d ago

wasnt UE3 built mainly for the 360 and pc ?

edhe5801d ago

No, no it wasn't... and it was UT3 that launched not U3, that might come later.

If the engine was perfected then why didn't UT3 support splitscreening on the ps3?

The Unreal Engine is *never* 'perfected' or complete. It's a work in progress, 24/7 which is why Gears2 will be on UE3.5 and why UT2k4 was on UE 2.5.

chasuk085801d ago

Ive said this before and it was confirmed by epic, unreal tournament 3 runs better on 360 as its an updated build of the engine, just like ut3 on ps3 was an updated version of the gears of war unreal engine. Same with gow2, it will look better than ut3 on 360. Its not cus they handle better its as they are updated builds.

DeadlyFire5801d ago (Edited 5801d ago )

PS3 may seem all powerful, but its not really. Cell has 1 PPE with 8 SPEs, but only 6 are used for games. Both PS3 and X360 are coded to run games with up to 6 threads working together at the same time just in different ways and its very likely that the next-generation will take another leap into 12-32 or more threads with more complex instructions and multiple cores and possible CPU/GPU hybrids coming along. Its possible that UE4 might work with PS3 and maybe even X360 in some way. It will not be performing at its best on them, but its possible that maybe one or two things might be downgraded though. The embedded HDD and Blu-Ray might make this acceptable for PS3 and for X360 it might need something else, but I don't know. Other engines have had this done before for certain games. Like these games on every platform and seeing the difference graphically from something like Smackdown vs. Raw 2008(I know its crap) or something from PS2 to PS3 with the same game. Either way PS3 and X360 are pretty much the same with power just PS3 is more complex with superior design as far as the coding goes. So the coding can run faster, and do more things at the same time but it takes more practice to get it right. Once it clicks though it can do lots of good things. I haven't seen much of a difference for PS3 vs. X360 games except for PS3 using more colors in most games and a few with some problems that were clearly slapped together ports. Its possible though that the PS3 has some untapped power in there. The new games are showing it off well. Just look at whats coming with Resistance 2 (60 player online FPS play), SOCOM: Confrontation (32 player online and destructible cover and large maps), and KILLZONE 2 (unknown features, but here is what I am hoping for destructible stuff, 32 player online, Amazing graphics.). Most online games on average for consoles are 16-24 players. PS3 is moving them up to 32 apparently. Hopefully Sony will finally show off to us more of what the Cell can do all around with KILLZONE 2 in 2009. 4 years in development the game must be aiming for perfection apparently. Hopefully it doesn't take as long as DNF.

Next-Gen consoles will be sporting at least 1-2 GB as well. So its not likely that the PS3 and X360 will be able to run the UE4 at full potential if they can even do so. PS3 is maybe, X360 is more skecty since it doesn't support embedded HDD or Blu-Ray for its games then its more of a stretch on its power.

I expect the Unreal Engine 4 and all the engines coming in the next 4-5 years in its lifetime will be semi-real to real looking graphics kinda like the new ATI 4000 Tech Demos. I know the ATI 4000 cards might not sport that type of graphics, but maybe they do. Either way those graphics are what I am expecting from Unreal Engine 4 and every other engine after or during its release.

All I can say is that the graphics on PS4 and Xbox 720 better be as realistic as real life.

Kami5801d ago

next gen graphics are going to be the shiniest ever

Says you5801d ago (Edited 5801d ago )

They better put new weapons instead of just putting the old ones I mean the vehicles were a nice feature but come on and this Gen has nothing but Unreal Engine 3 notice the other system has been using it alot!

XBox 360=Unreal Engine 3

BioShock Gears of War Lost odyssey Mass Effect Huxely Prey

Madmax1281980 Halo 3 didn't use Unreal Engine 3 except maybe Rainbow Six 1 & 2.

Madmax12819805801d ago (Edited 5801d ago )

mikeslemonade5801d ago

By then PS3 will be able to handle Unreal Engine 4. No need for PS4 just yet.

EKWB reportedly plagued with financial disarray many gaming pc's left without parts

EK Cooling allegedly has slipped itself into a hot soup of seemingly endless financial woes, where it has not paid its staff, suppliers, and contractors for many months as the company is facing liquidity problems and a surplus of inventory left unsold, stuck in the warehouse for a more extended period. Gamers Nexus investigated these claims made by former and current personnel, where he found trails of unpaid bills lasting as long as three to four months and unpaid raises that accumulated for almost a year.

EK Water Blocks has two entities—a Slovenian-based headquarters and a US-based subsidiary, EK Cooling Solutions. Steve narrated the series of events in detail, stating that the company was reportedly irresponsible and negligent regarding payment. Consequently, partners and employees are forced to share the burden of alleged mismanagement. It all begins with its extensive range of products, leading to a surplus of goods. EK has over 230 water blocks, 40 liquid cooling kits, 85 reservoirs, 40 pumps, 73 radiators, and 212 miscellaneous accessories.

Yes this is not about video games directly but indirectly this will impact the pc gaming/workstation space hard.

This company is massive one of two in the water cool space so if it goes poof then thousands out there have no spare parts or half built computers.

SO yeah i know not about a video game but think of it as amd leaving the pc space but this is ekwb that could be leaving water cooling in the pc space

Jayz2cents a supporter of there products also has issues

As someone that has built a watercooling rig. EK is big, but there's so many numerous watercooling part companies out there. EK's stuff isn't exactly amazing quality for the price compared to others either, it's just ok. Much like Corsair. The impact would be negligible long term. For perspective the majority of my parts are XSPC, at most I use EK for my gpu waterblocks and fittings. Both easily replaceable.
