Watchdogs was marketed perfectly by Sony, especially for a new IP
If they follow that formula with Destiny, it's gonna be good.
Side Note: I hope they have a marketing deal with Batman and Mgs TPP... Both of those games could've sold a few more copies with some more cool commercials
DriveClub, LittleBigPlanet 3, and PlanetSide 2 are going to sell a lot of PS4s as well this year. Some people will be very disrupted with how they are downplaying and underestimating the PS4's first party line-up for the holidays
Sony is better so far with advertising...but they need to push hard this holiday season. There is a ton to offer.
Id love to see a campaign taking MS head on. Show ir exclusives for the holiday, including Destiny...then a barrage of big 92015x games and then go after the multiplatform games, showing the superior hardware.
All last gen, every multiplatform game commercial had an xbox logo at the end like u could only play it there. This x continue to market the PS4 as a gamer machine, but highlight the fact that u dont buy a PS simply for exclusives but for the best gaming experience. Show CoD, Battlefield etc. running on both...and then these simple words..."You Decide" or " Its in your hands now"
The Last of Us and then Destiny a month later and then followed by DriveClub and LBP3 PS4 bundle.. PS4 will rule king for quite some time. Then Bloodborne and The Order in February... damn!
ALso this is going to be the first full year for sports games. NBA 2K and Madden. I think the majority of those guys are going PS4 because they tend to follow what their friends got already.
A lot of those sports games will still be selling on the old systems for a little while longer, so it might be a bit of time before that crowd move to the next gen.
No question, destiny is the most substantial (not to say best, but maybe) title coming to PS4 this fall, and tlou remastered should carry through the summer pretty well also. Just don't see LBP3 and driveclub moving all that many units. Plus that white PS4...
LBP3 could get fans of the series to buy a PS4, and there are more than a few fans. Having all those user levels to play is a great bonus.
Driveclub could sell a few PS4s because of the PS+ version, if someone sees DC in action at a friend's place or in a store. Even if they don't want to get the full game they can still race with friends who have it.
A well done Planetside 2 commercial could also sell some. It's not a game for everyone but those big battles do look cool, and if they flash "Free to Download on PS4" at the end of the commercial it would work. I have a feeling Sony will time Planetside 2's beta or release to line up with The Master Chief Collection. Not the same day maybe, but close.
Destiny will probably sell the most, but PS4 has other good stuff this fall.
I could see that but if i was running sony/PS. I would focus on Drive Club, from core to casual gamers, people like playing racing games. Drive Club looks so great and if they market it right than it can sell a lot of copies/consoles
Should be great sales for Sony as they are smartly targeting their markets well. Driving bundle for Europe and in North America Destiny which will target FPS fans and help with 3rd party relationships with Activision/Bungie.
How the gaming world changed... Last gen when Microsoft marketed 3rd party games to sell their console, they were criticised. Now Sony does it, it's ok.
I think MS has turned off a lot of ppl this gen. They appear to be turning it around but they have to sell consumers on the fact they aren't trying to impose their uber controlling business strategy on you (yet) and that their hardware, while weaker than the direct competition, is still a viable choice for gaming. It will be hard and it may force MS to shell out a lot of $$$ for exclusivity agreements. Agreements that will cost them more for xbone because it's roughly half of Sony's PS4 sales. That's going to be difficult for a game company that wants to maximize profits and exsposure. It will happen to some degree but I'm thinking there more than a few developers that saw what happened with titanfall and don't want that to happen to their game. $60 game x 4,000,000 lost consumers (less than half PS4 install, won't even try to show PS3 lost sales) = $240,000,000 in lost sales. I know that there's a few pieces of pie for various outlets in that $240 million but it's still a lot of lost money. With new ip's on a new system at launch time it's like hitting a underhanded pitch. There's not much competition.
Anyways, I kind of jumped around in that comment but I think I provided the point i was trying to make.
Well Sony has already announced a deal with Batman Arkham Knight, but I doubt MGSV TPP will have anything exclusive to PS4 besides 1080p 60FPS. Kojoma doesn't really do that exclusive stuff no more. And If he does both consoles get something.
With white bundle, extra content and simply hype surrounding this game, Im quite positive it will become this years best seller. If Sony got some spare funds, then their best bet is to put them into Destiny and PS4 bundle advertising and doing it hard.
I couldn't agree more. The Destiny alpha was a lot better than most full retail games....I put over 20 hours in it with only 3 missions so it boggles my mind to think of all the time I'll be spending in it when the full game releases. If the alpha is any indication other FPS games releasing after Destiny are gonna have a tough time. I hope COE and BF freakin tank this year....That Hardline beta was EXACTLY like BF4.
I think so too, its been getting talked about a lot ever since the Alpha people can't stopped talking about it. If Sony does the marketing correctly like they've been doing for the ps4 and games it will sell the most on PS4 for sure.
In the UK at least Sony included Destiny in their TV ads as far back as January, which is not a typical approach at all. It is pretty safe to assume they will push it hard in September and right up to Christmas.
Destiny should also move a fair few XBox Ones as well, because a lot of Bungie's fans will have their eye on the Halo MCC + Destiny combo.
I agree my store already has a gigantic window banner saying PS4 is the place to play with PS4 promptly displayed. They did the same with Watchdogs and did extremely well. Just hope our buyers aren't as stupid, we were extremely understocked for PS3/360 customers.
Yeah, tried to play a game on the ps3 I gave to my son the other day. Next gen has ruined that experience for me now. You can't miss what you never had though!
I'm Interested to see how its going to look on last-gen consoles during the Beta. If it looks close enough to the current-gen I can see it selling alot across both generations.
I don't think as many Xbox fans are as excited for Destiny as PS fans. Xbox fans already have Halo. Bungie games are old news for them. Activision knows this. That's why they're including that one exclusive DLC on the PS4 because it's more interesting to PS fans. More Xbox fans would be like....meh. But I'm sure they'll have die hard Xbox fans of Destiny too especially those who can't get enough Halo. But Xbox fans love COD. The fact that you'll have jet packs and turn invisible will be refreshing to COD fans. Destiny might take the thrown across the board on all platforms but COD will still dominate since it drops once a year. We might not see another Destiny sequel for a while because Bungie developers are slow but meticulous.
Most of that is junk. XBox fans aren't turning their nose up at a Bungie game just because they have already played other Bungie games.
Activision aren't offering DLC to Playstation fans because that group are more interested. They are in a strong position to negotiate horrible exclusivity deals with both platform holders, and they are laughing all the way to the bank. Nothing about which fanbase will appreciate it more.
The thing that is unforutnately true in what you say is that COD will probably dominate the market again. Destiny, Halo MCC, TLOU remaster, Sunset Overdrive, Little Big Planet, Forza Horizons 2, Drive Club, Dragon Age Inquisition. COD will likely beat all of them.
The promotion/relationship between Sony/Bungie is so strong that...
When I think of Destiny, I automatically think of PS4. Maybe because this will be the first time we get anywhere close to experiencing a Halo styled game.
@Funanctic1
Except COD AW is releasing on PS4 too. Your comment reads as if only Xbox One is getting the next COD. You also act as if Xbox One owners don't give a hoot about Destiny.
I'll speak for myself, Bungie is not old, the Halo series is old. Bungie only made 3 games in the series, and there are like 7 or 8 Halo games, so how are Bungie games old news to Xbox Fans??
Not many PS4 fans I'm aware of, care about the Halo series anymore, we know we'll never get that game. Bungie is more focused on Sony hardware now. Hence the 1 year DLC exclusivity.
Whatever happens, you can bet your buttocks Activision will be very happy the next 6 months. A new COD for next gen, AND a brand new TPS from Bungie that's been getting positive hype from those who've played the alpha, which is also looking to be a huge blockbuster? I don't think Bobby Kotick even has a vault big enough to store all that money this holiday season. Sony partnering up with Activision is dang smart. That White PS4+Destiny bundle is gonna sell bucketloads.

Destiny is going to sell insanely well.
If the Alpha was any indication ( it was old code even ) then this game is going to be fantastic.
Never got to play alpha, just anxious to get a shot to play. That beta cant come soon enough.
Glacier White Ps4 Destiny Bundle.....
I think so too, its been getting talked about a lot ever since the Alpha people can't stopped talking about it. If Sony does the marketing correctly like they've been doing for the ps4 and games it will sell the most on PS4 for sure.
