PS4 And Xbox One – The Battle Of The Zombie MMOs Continues

IM PLAYIN continues the discussion on the two Zombie MMOs coming to the Xbox One and the PS4, after the recent details released on H1Z1.

"I was quite disappointed by E3, but only in the sense that we didn’t get any announcements on Class 4, the Xbox One’s up-coming zombie based game. We did, however, get a little bit of information, as well as a cool looking gameplay trailer, for H1Z1, the PS4′s zombie MMO. It’ll also be coming to Steam, so look alive PC gamers; it could well be Sony’s answer to DayZ.

The game that I’m most excited about is the untitled project by Undead Labs known only as ‘Class 4′. This game is destined for the Xbox One, with possible release on the 360 and PC, though none of this is confirmed. But, what do we know for sure?"

Well, I played the H1Z1 alpha at the Razer's booth and it was honestly terrible. Hit detection was amazingly bad, graphics were last gen and it was just boring. The world was really uninteresting. If I were to choose a Zombie game, I would choose Dying Light, maybe Dead Island 2 or hopefully a new Left 4 Dead? They may not be MMOs, but they are far superior.

I wonder how much it will change by beta and release. Its coming to the PC and then to the PS4. If P lanetside 2, Everquest etc. are any indication, Sony can do mmo's. And competing against DayZ and others, I would be beyond amazed to find a low quality game at release.

This is an opportunity to tap into a popular genre and bring it to console players. So I have faith that it will be good. Im just not a fan of any of the zombie games. I love FF14 and cant wait for Destiny and Dragon Age...maybe a little Shadow of Mordor.

The difference is that Planetside was already interesting to begin with. The complains I have with the alpha is mostly how boring it was. Hit detection could be solved, IA issues can be solved (you could just walk pass zombies and they wouldn't even react to you being there), but the place is actually boring, movement is slow as well

I'm hoping this rumor about a new Undead Labs game is true (they've been hinting at it on their site). I've been excited about open world zombie games, but found DayZ, Infestation and Rust to be underwhelming. The most fun I've had with this genre has been playing State of Decay - which isn't online.

I'm optimistic that H1Z1 will be better than the other online games since it's coming from Sony, but so far it doesn't look much better than the current zombie MMOs.

You seem to be more interested in the action type zombie games. H1Z1 is supposed to be about survival and has to be slower paced, so there's no wonder it'd have people who dislike it, but I wouldn't say any of the other games you listed would be "superior", just really different.

Day Z does amazingly well and tons of people love it because of its survival nature and because each encounter can get really intense, and it's also slow like H1Z1. The online play is also insane with crazy players just... Being crazy.

Actually, to tell the truth, H1Z1 is pretty much a rip-off of Day Z, though I suppose they do a few things differently.

Tons of people also dislike Day Z and just as you said H1Z1 es a rip-off of Day Z.

I'm interested in any game, however, in zombie games you are supposed to be threatened. Spending days building something without any feelings of fear or anything is not what I think when I play a zombie game. In that sense, Dead Island does a better job at mixing Survival and a sense of urgency.

I think it goes down to everyone's perception of what a Zombie game/movie/whatever should be instead of the type of game.

H1Z1 is coming to PC first. PS4 might get it in a year or 2 when SOE finish it on PC but not before then.

I haven't heard anything about Class4 from Undead Labs.

So neither console are getting a zombie MMO any time soon.

I was excited for H1Z1, but when saw the gameplay and all you had to do to survive like build forts in the middle of nowhere and collect water, I was disappointed. It seemed like too many small petty things being focused on instead of action. I like zombies games like Dead Nation, Left 4 Dead, and State of Decay. I'm unsure about H1Z1 but at least it's free. I've never heard of Class 4 tho. All I know is that it's a follow up to State of Decay. So it should be good.

H1Z1 is a hardcore survival game in a zombie apocalypse.

You have to take care of the small things like food, water, temperatures, stamina. Building a base with your friends and keeping yourself alive from zombies and players is all part of the fun.

It's not meant to be an action game like Left4dead or state of decay. Guns will be rare so melee and bow and arrows will be the main weapons.

Class3 is State of Decay, Class4 is Undead Labs next zombie game supposedly an MMO.

DayZ is also a hardcore survival game you'll be wandering around for hours looking for loot and food/drink, then when you do meet a player most of the time it's kill or be killed. Then you start all over again.

I don't think console players know what these survival games are all about. You want them on your platform but I wonder if you will actually like them when you do get them.

H1Z1 and DayZ try to replicate what an "actual" zombie apocalypse would be like...

It wouldn't be like all the games where you have tons of guns and never need to eat food..

That's the fun in it... Kind of like a simulation game, but the simulation is surviving..

That's the thrill in it. You have to be on your toes and take advantage of every resource you come across.

Just like you would have to do in the case of a real worldwide catastrophe, regardless if it was zombies or not.

I don't think Funantic has a PS4 or the desire to get one, judging from some of his past comments. I could be wrong about that.

I'm a console player and I know exactly what H1Z1 is. I hope it comes to PS4. You may be right though about the console audience in general.

So you blame console players of not knowing what survival games are about, yet there are plenty PC users that doesn't like Day-Z at all.

I know what a Survival game are, and one thing is to take care of all those things (food, water, Stamina, etc) in a fun way and another one is to do it in a boring and uninteresting way. Day-Z is an interesting concept in a boring world and H1Z1 is exactly the same. It's not a survival game, it's a chore simulator.

No point in this article at all...

I mean, nobody outside of Undead Labs knows a bean about Class 4. We know plenty on H1Z1 on the other hand.
