Kavorklestein3579d ago (Edited 3579d ago )

Pretty Much... More like games to Look forward to in 2014 - Driveclub and Little Big Planet, although LBP Is practically 2015, and I was never a huge fan in the first place ... So that's a big IF, if you even like those games. PS4 isn't essential THIS year, IMO.
In 2015 -
The Order, Bloodborne, Possibly Uncharted, but it COULD fall into 2016.

AAAAANNNDDD there's also a decent speckling of the games on the NON-essential path from 2013-2016.....Indies, Not saying that they are BAD, just NOT "Essential"

No man's sky (WHICH LOOKS AMAZING BTW) could be out this year, or next, and is gonna come out on Xbox one later on, but KEYWORD here is it's NOT exclusive. So, if we are going imitate the standards set by most Sony fans, then the only thing to say about that is: "The Definitive Version Will Be On PC"

So yeah, no.... Multiplat-Station and Indie Station for 2014... More Powerful? Yes. A bit.
More "Essential"? Not at all.
At least, in MY opinion.

Till at least Feb 2015, then depending on how The Order does, steam for it being "Essential" is accumulated.

And whenever the PS4 does become "Essential" doesn't matter in the long run because the games do the talking for me, and I will not have enough time or money to wait for something to BECOME Essential. When for MY gamer tastes... The Xbox One is ALREADY Essential, and is getting more essential everyday.

Some Folks may have a differing opinion than me, and that's perfectly fine.

I'm not calling anyone stupid, or saying anyone is DUMB. We should all have the same freedom of speech on this site, even if it's something we don't like to hear.

But most of all , we should be able to enjoy playing video games. And if Some people think the PS4 is essential, then fine.
And if some find Xbox one essential, fine.
Wii U? Fine.
PC only? Fine.

It's all fine and dandy in gameztopia.

guyman3578d ago

Wtf did i just read? your opinion is not above reality, and the reality is that neither console is essential at this moment, maybe in the coming months, but not now.

TI_213578d ago

Wait, did I miss MS getting rid of that launch parity clause - or do you just expect it to be dropped in the near future?

Kavorklestein3578d ago (Edited 3578d ago )

Did I say it's above reality?

Jeez, at LEAST I acknowledged that this was my opinion, unlike all the other SONY die-hards who spout their opinions TWICE as flagrantly, with HALF the basis, with LESS clarity and borderline ZERO acceptance to differing opinions...
Did I not?
Just because you can say both aren't essential at this moment- To YOU, doesn't mean I, or others feel that way... In fact millions of others disagree with the idea that none of them are essential.
But to each, his/her own.

See how I didn't shoot you down without allowing room for differing opinions?
That's how it's done.

@TI_21 You mean no man's sky correct?
It's coming to xbox one. Look it up. Parity clause aside, (it surely didn't HELP No man's sky get to xbox one), but it is coming eventually. Plus Sony's E3 conference they said "exclusive debut". Meaning coming to PS4 first, and Xbox One later.

TI_213578d ago

The thing is, exclusive debut translates to exclusive for as long as MS doesn't drop that abysmal clause in their contract. ;)
It's completely in the hands of Phil Spencer and his team to make it happen.

Yahdaree3578d ago

Kavor honestly, WTF are you talking about?

DigitalRaptor3578d ago (Edited 3578d ago )

You got the responses you did because non of that is opinion. It's baseless speculation, and unrealistic assessment. There's WAY more coming to PS4 that you care to admit this year, and even more in 2015 that you forget to mention.
----

"@TI_21 You mean no man's sky correct?

None of that is true. No facts to back it up. You'll find nowhere to "look it up". They said it will make its console debut on PS4. That means it's coming to a console first. Then PC later down the line if they get the opportunity.

So far, they have only commented on PS4 and PC in platforms that they are interested in supporting.

On the radar it's just really Uncharted 4 and No man's Sky for me. Being as I have a PS4 I am looking forward to Order and Bloodborne...but if I didn't have one I wouldn't miss them and would be entertained by other games in the meantime. The rest of this list does nothing for me personally, but I'm positive there are others that will enjoy them.

NextLevel3579d ago

"Being as I have a PS4"

"So....you said that XB1 exclusives looked like unoriginal and uninspiring games...then said you wanted to buy PS4 because of Killzone 5 and Infamous 3.... #16.1

"Exactly...and the funny thing is that the argument about apps outside the live service is only good if your live service sucks...XBL doesn't suffer from this problem...so the 5 people that buy an XB1 and don't get XBL MIGHT be better off getting a PS4 where they don't have to worry about a reason to get online.

@jdktech....I'll learn to summarize when you learn to make a point. I've had a PS3 since day one as well (although two died and had to be replaced... #7.2.1

What changed? Lol.

TankCrossing3579d ago

None of your quotes contradict anything he said. I'm glad you found it funny though.

bigbic3578d ago

^
Even if he does indeed own a PS4 that still doesn't negate his obvious, sometimes fanatical bias towards Xbox as a brand. So should what he claims he feels about PS4 games be taken seriously? I am pretty sure that is what NextLevel was going for, not necessarily to prove contradiction.

HanCilliers3579d ago

True, some of those games are very "tatse specific" as well.

GribbleGrunger3579d ago

All games are 'taste specific' unless you buy games that don't suit your tastes (for some bizarre reason).

Christopher3578d ago

@GribbleGrunger: I only buy games that random people on the Internet say I should buy. Same with gaming hardware.

Christopher3579d ago

To be honest, I need more info on all of them to be truly interested.

But, for now... No Man's Sky, The Order (mebbe), and Uncharted 4 are likely games of interest.

Malphite3578d ago

I have to agree on needing more info. I can't wait for official Bloodborne gameplay cause I love the Dark Souls games. On the other hand I don't really know what to expect from Uncharted 4 and LittleBigPlanet cause I've never played the predecessors.

I'll give Drivecluba try even though I'm not a huge racing fan.

The Order 1886 is the one I'm really excited about cause I really like the setting. And No Man's Sky would be a game I'd want to get on the PC because of mods (If it takes too long to be released on PC though, I'd get it on PS4 first)

Sheikh Yerbouti3578d ago

I didn't buy LBP2, but I might cop it again.

DigitalRaptor3578d ago (Edited 3578d ago )

Seeing as you virulently downplay everything you possibly can hope to achieve about the PS4, it's been made clear on more than one occasion that you don't have one. No one who owned one would make that much effort to downplay it and crap on it, in aid of making Xbone appear to be the best thing since sliced bread by comparison. No one who complains about it having no games they are interested in would have one.

Your Xbone defense tirades venture into hating on the PS4 as some kind of bitter retort, and have made clear time and time again that you don't have one because you aren't interested in a console that does nothing for you.

Post your PSN ID for us to look up your trophies if you do have one, cause that would be great to see. Prove me wrong for calling you out as the fraud that I believe you are.

GabeSA3579d ago

I am seeing one major flaw here....whilst these all seem like good titles, most have "TBA" next to it, and others launch in 2015. What about now?? I have nothing solid right now for my PS4. I think that XBOX will get a big following due to the number of gaming titles launching along with the console, rather than the big flop of games launched on PS4 (I dont mean quality but rather sheer numbers).

HanCilliers3579d ago

now that is a really good point

rawz3579d ago

3 of them are coming 2014, and there will be plenty 'not so essential' exclusives coming.

In comparison to the other next-gen console, there will be Forza Horizon 2, Halo collection, Sunset Overdrive.

So where do people see this 'superiority of games' on X1? Even the variety is clearly inferior to PS4's.

Someone might say both consoles fail to deliver the exclusives. But hey, it was you who brought up the X1.

oasdada3579d ago

It was either to launch exclusives at the end of the ps3 cycle or move em to ps4 like xbox.. they choose not to abandon ps3 and thats a good thing.. and for games.. i highly doubt with many aaa third party games to come.. any 1 one wud buy an xb1 for a few extra games in contrast to superior ps4 multi plats and future promising exclusives

HanCilliers3579d ago

@GribbleGrunger, that is true, but some games are more equal than others ;)

LittleBigPlanet 3 Servers Are Officially Shut Down 'Indefinitely,' Sony Confirms

Sony has confirmed that LittleBigPlanet 3 servers on PlayStation 4 will remain offline “indefinitely” following troubles with the service from earlier this year.

5d ago
rlow15d ago

Sad day, hopefully they’ll allow a third party server solution. Goes to show game preservation is an uphill battle.

blackblades4d ago

Sad day oh wait everyone that whining about it didn't play it or haven't played it in years and never was going back to it. Funny how people start to care when this happens but when it was actually up those same people didn't even pay attention to it.

rlow14d ago (Edited 4d ago )

First, you don’t know who has or hasn’t played it. So that’s your assumption. Secondly, even if people haven’t played it in awhile, it’s still nostalgia. Those memories of sharing your creation and having fun playing other peoples creations. Third, no game out there is really like this or as iconic. Today if they made this they would nickel and dime the whole way through and it would launch broken.

Cacabunga4d ago

Reason why i really dislike online games.. they become unplayable over time.. LBP story mode is actually only a tutorial

_Decadent_Descent4d ago

How would you know who's played it or not? What about those who get into games years after their release? They can't now. Besides, and more importantly, this sets a bad precedent across the industry when it comes to game preservation and people's ability to enjoy what they've paid for.

blackblades4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

People still play it but not a lot probably a fee people and I know you 2 guys haven't played it in a long time. If the server was doing so good it wouldnt be shut down. As I said the same people that whine and cry saying bad things on Sony etc are the same ones that havent or stopped playing a certain game in years. Let me ask you guys straight up and y'all tell the truth have you guys played it recently and when you did for how long did you play it.

SonyStyled4d ago

@blackblades “ Let me ask you guys straight up and y'all tell the truth have you guys played it recently and when you did for how long did you play it.”

Whatever “straight up” and “y’all” is, I can tell you the “truth” to answer your question.

I’ve been playing LBP2 for the past 5 years, I have 10 levels to Ace in a row and a coupe more hours in create mode for platinum. I played LBP2 earlier today in crate mode.

It sucked when LBP 1 and 2 servers were closed on PS3, but all those creations were still playable on PS4 LBP3.

Every level creation since LBP1 can’t be played now

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 4d ago
CDbiggen4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Just disappointing. I have such nostalgia for this game and the user levels from LBP 1&2 and I already was gutted when they were shut down but at least they were on LBP3, and now this means I can't ever revisit those creative worlds again. All because some trolls or whatever decided to exploit these games, of all games, for some reason.

just_looken4d ago

What needs to be highlighted by this is that the series has had 4 main games then that go kart spin off yet sony let them all die.

There is 0 games like this on ps5 and to my knowledge 0 first party main kids games no tech demo crap

Sony purchased Media Molecule studio the ip then tossed it away letting it rot for over 7 years yet the community carried on until now were we have lost 16 years on all games of content along with no replacement.

Everyone goes on about ea killing studios but sony has killed way way more but its fine its sony they can do no wrong.

Before the sony blidboys track me down again go fire up your holy boxes all the dlc they tossed out all the trophies and all the user content needs a server side handshake that no longer works. Yes offline single player version 1.0 works but that is it.

Media Molecule was not cut i know but they only made LBP and dreams it was reported they just missed the chopping block
https://gamerant.com/little...

Do not forget the dreams game was tossed out 2020 but 3 years later support was pulled
https://www.digitaltrends.c...

All in all this is another failure at sony on a long long list in the past 10 years

Inverno4d ago

It's kind of hard to disagree when SONY has a history of abandoning many of their IPs. They killed Mod Nation and turnt it into LBP Karting because of brand recognition but left it to die too. They made their own Smash Bros only to rush the studio, and turn the game into an advert for recent release at the time and still let it die. They shut down PS Home for more or less the same reason, they left it to rott till it became too broken and exploited to bother fixing.

just_looken4d ago

This right here

Playstation home is what facebook is trying to make now but in vr that metaverse deal

Imagine if sony kept up ps home development

The death of playstation forums was also a huge loss

Demetrius4d ago

When they refused a days gone sequel and no acknowledgement of a infamous series remaster of those gems, I knew Sony slick abandons stuff, sure they still release good games but to an extent smh

u-bEttA-rUn4d ago

Their games were unable to attract the masses every game that came out the attachment grew smaller and smaller they advertise LBP for years the industry changed and then came fortnight... You want Sony to continue to support them which cost them money that they're not getting back from the studio.

DOMination-4d ago

Honestly, I think a well-designed LBP-style game would do better than ever in the current state of the industry.

People have short attention spans. Having something that is pick up, play a few levels and put down again is the experience the "masses" are after.

Keep it as a 2D platformer only with well-designed base levels, make it easy to build new levels and more importantly easy to access new content - personally I always found the way Forze Horizon 4&5 provide daily, weekly and monthly challenges via new content that they've built or handpicked from the community is a system that works great - and then stick it on mobile and PC with Steam Deck support.

Make it F2P with a one-off fee for the level editor (to stop people spamming crap onto the store) and have MTX for more characters, outfits etc. and there you have a live service game that Sony should be all over.

Do the same with a new Karting game and a 2D fighting/Smash Bros style engine and you have three bangers right there.

(I appreciate the N4G community will hate the idea of LBP being a live service game with MTX and I get that but I think if there's one game this model could work well for, it's this.. just imo)

anast4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Astro's is similar.

Not enough people cared to play it, so they cut it.

Sony has never been a kid friendly console. This should be obvious. People go to Nintendo for this stuff.

DarkZane4d ago

All signs actually point to a new Astrobot game coming to PS5, so you'd be wrong.

anast4d ago

It's the game that came with the PS5

StoneTitan4d ago

Its on media molecule though. They did not want to continue LBP. Sony accepted that.
Sumo continued it. With a solala lbp3 and a great sackboy though.
Its not sonys fault. They dont want to force a studio to create a new LBP game.
But I would love a revival.

romulus234d ago

For some people Sony can do no right either. You can play Sackboy A Big Adventure on PS5. So there is "a game like this" on PS5.

anast4d ago

They don't want to hear all that stuff.

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 4d ago
Tacoboto4d ago

I feel bad for Media Molecule. For the ideas they have it seems they need a publisher that supports games like this and Dreams especially for as many players as possible.

DOMination-4d ago

Sony in the Andrew House era did support them massively though. They let them do their thing with LBP and spent millions marketing it. I remember one E3 they even used LBP to cover the boring parts of the presentation where they talk about sales figures etc.

And then they allowed MM to announce their game on the PS4 console announcement/showcase event and waited the entire generation for them to release it.

The 7 Best Souls-Like Games - Mastering the Challenge

The Souls-like genre remains popular, along with FromSoftware's classics there are many contenders. But which are the best Souls-like games?

toxic-inferno23d ago

Hmm... In my opinion, the 7 best are the 6 made by FromSoftware (DeS, DS1, DS2, DS3, BB and ER), then Lies of P. But each to their own.

kevco3323d ago

Still DS1? You don't feel it's been surpassed yet?

Demon's Souls has the remake of course, but DS1 has surely been outdated?

Smellsforfree23d ago

I think that the DS1 remake is better looking than DS2. The interior lighting matched with the low resolution textures in DS2 is very garish, IMO.

Besides graphics, what do you mean by DS1 being "outdated"? I'm someone who played through Elden Ring and just recently played through the DS series, and as far as gameplay went, there were all very similar.

Cacabunga23d ago

I haven’t played many but Bloodborne and NIOH1 are on top of my list.. had a blast with these 2

toxic-inferno23d ago

For world design and interconnectedness (that's a word, right?) DS1 is yet to be beaten.

9 Years Later, Does Bloodborne Deserve All The Praise It Gets?

Saad from eXputer: "Almost a decade later, it's time to take the nostalgia goggles off and accept that Bloodborne has long been surpassed by its successors."

jznrpg25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

Yes, yes it does. It’s still a great game. Elden Ring isn’t better just different and a bit easier . I like that you have to be aggressive but smart in Bloodborne

thorstein25d ago

I literally replayed it recently and it's better than I remember. I think it's like going back to a beloved book and noticing things I hadn't before.

raWfodog25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

Yo! I was getting ready to reply with the exact same four words you started with lol. Yes, I think Bloodborne has withstood the test of time and remains a great game. That’s why all the fans are hoping for a sequel someday. Hoping that we can catch that magic again with a new storyline.

Leeroyw25d ago

Yes. Just replayed it a few days ago. My first Platinum. And yes. I rage quitted so many times and called it BS too when I started. It's tight. The combat is amazing and the lore is rich.

GamingSinceForever24d ago

Elden Ring was easier? I don’t know about that at all. I remember leveling up in Bloodborne and breezing through it. In Elden Ring no matter how powerful I got I was still catching a beat down from every boss.

thorstein24d ago

That's due to scaling enemies. I remember not doing Haligtree untill near the end and having enemies withstand almost a full blast from Azur's Glintstone Staff Comet Azure. My level was quite high.

Melee characters are not fun in that game, especially for the Elden Beast.

MeteorPanda25d ago

Considering l did a run 2 months ago? Yes.
