A Problem With The PS4's Recording Feature That Nobody Is Talking About

Daniel from Takuchat.com writes:

"Brief recap: The PS4 and its controller have been built around the ability to record up to 15 minutes of gameplay and it’s great and I personally use it a lot (to the point where I’m deleting captures regularly to clean up my hard drive). I’m sure a lot of people reading this have heard about issues where the PS4 doesn’t record the last 15 minutes of gameplay as it should and that is a serious issue that needs fixing, but it is not the issue I am talking about."

Hope it goes to 11.

On topic: I haven't had any audio recording problems, voice or in game, but I would like it to store just the last 15 minutes of gameplay. It records the first 15, then stops every time. When something happens that I want to share, I want it to be recorded.

Linzoid3999d ago

My biggest issue with the share button is this:

When I double press the share button I want it to save the last 15 minutes of video, not start a new clip!

It's annoying to have to hold the share button, go into the share menu and press square to save the clip.

This is what they need to fix!

You can change what function two button presses does from the settings I pretty sure.

Yeah. It's partially broken. Sony has done a terrible job of updates with the PS4. It's like they got one guy working on system updates for the PS4. This is one place Microsoft is out doing the PS4 this gen. Sony needs to step their game up and get more people on these things, they're important.

DragonKnight3999d ago

You see, this is the problem.

When Sony puts out a lot of updates...

"God my PS4 ALWAYS needs to update when I turn it on. Why can't Sony be like Microsoft and only do major updates twice a year?"

When Sony doesn't put out a lot of updates...

*NextLevel's comment copied and pasted here*

Look, Sony has PRIORITIES to focus on and these are new consoles. Problems are still being discovered, so unless you're going to provide me with next Friday's winning Lottomax numbers, thereby proving that predicting the future is real, then you have to let the problems be found, reported to Sony, give Sony time to work on a solution, and then release the update.

People spent so much time whining about pointless mp3 playback and DLNA support for a gaming console so Sony's trying to work on bringing that sometime soon (hopefully) and now people want an immediate solution to this?

This frickin' generation of instant gratification is a big annoyance.

liquidhalos3999d ago

Ms doesn't do updates twice a year, what a silly statement. Plus as long as the respective company is rolling out updates, us, the end user, get a better more stable experience. I don't think I've ever heard console fans complain that their console manufacturer is working too hard to improve their console through updates. Don't you want your console working at its best with zero minor glitches and irritations? Heck, I know I do. I love my ps4 and I want it to be the best it can be. How is that a bad thing? This is surely something all gamers want, irrespective of platform.

"Ms doesn't do updates twice a year, what a silly statement."

Who cares? They don't release as many updates as Sony does and that's the point.

"I don't think I've ever heard console fans complain that their console manufacturer is working too hard to improve their console through updates."

Then you're new to the online gaming community because it got so bad it was almost cliche to complain about Playstation updates.

https://www.google.ca/webhp...

That's a google search link for "PS3 updates too much" just look at how many people complained about that.

"Don't you want your console working at its best with zero minor glitches and irritations? Heck, I know I do. I love my ps4 and I want it to be the best it can be. How is that a bad thing? This is surely something all gamers want, irrespective of platform."

Who made any opposing opinion about what you just said? Everyone wants their console to work perfectly out of the box, the problem is is that is never going to happen so then people are separated from those with patience, and those with an attitude of instant gratification who then make themselves look like idiots with their whining.

All things, especially good things, take time.

DragonKnight,
"People spent so much time whining about pointless mp3 playback and DLNA support for a gaming console so Sony's trying to work on bringing that sometime soon (hopefully) and now people want an immediate solution to this?"

What is this, damage control? Also to tell us we want an immediate solution is just hyperbole. The PS4 started being created years ago and it's been 9 months since it came out. They managed to get the music store out. People also used to complain about the PS3 and lack of custom soundtracks so this isn't something new that Sony hasn't heard before. The XB1 was also released with many features missing and people complained about that too. No need for damage control.

"They don't release as many updates as Sony does and that's the point."

That may have been true last generation but it certainly isn't this time. Microsoft has monthly updates where they have interactions with fans and requests. These are actual updates, not security ones that mostly hit the PS4. If you weren't so ignorant towards the XB1 I wouldn't feel the need to constantly have to correct you on the subject. Stick to PS4 discussions and stop talking about the XB1 because when you do it's all about ranting all due to you bias.

"Everyone wants their console to work perfectly out of the box, the problem is is that is never going to happen so then people are separated from those with patience, and those with an attitude of instant gratification who then make themselves look like idiots with their whining."

Well the recording feature was marketed quite heavily by Sony. In fact they designed the controller with that feature in mind so it's not uncommon to be complaining about such feature if it doesn't work as advertised. Meaning why are you here apologizing for a company that isn't paying you to do so?

Novistador3999d ago

@Dragon
People may grumble about constant updates, but at least you can understand why they put so much time and effort in. It is way more frustrating to see these bugs and continue seeing them for months.

DragonKnight3998d ago

The only pertinent reply I have for your comment is an old old saying.

Patience is a virtue.

Gazondaily3999d ago (Edited 3999d ago )

Ah have those filler negative comments so that you can be perceived to be objective when you go on your next inevitable anti Xbox tirade. Nice try lol.

Anyway, I still prefer the ps4's video recording than the x1's. The fact that you just press the share button and it records the last 15 minutes of your game play (most of the time) as opposed to having to snap your game dvr and set up recording (for only 5 minutes) is much better.

And the recording quality is much better when comparing the two.

This needs to be patched though.

daBUSHwhaka3998d ago

Can't believe you just said something positive about the X1.Are you feeling ok.Did you try a chill biscuit.Maybe your taking things to the Nextlevel.

Maybe you should try other games first?

inmusicutrust3999d ago

My understanding was that they aren't recorded due to privacy concerns, perhaps this was just picked up by the mic via speakers and not the actual feed.

generic-user-name3999d ago

That can't be it because I was using a pulse elite headset so nothing was coming off the TV speakers and it wouldn't be possible for it to pick up on voices through the actual ear cups and if it could then it would pick up all game noise and not just the chat.

But thanks for the guess. :)

inmusicutrust3999d ago

Thanks for the clarification! I had heard since day one that it wasn't possible at all so this certainly makes things interesting.
