Zelda Fan Survey 2014 Results: More Older Fans Than Younger, Interesting Fan Favorites

Zelda Informer: "I have spent years pondering and talking about what makes the Zelda games tick: why do so many people, including myself, hold them in such high regard? What is this “Zelda magic” that everyone spaks of, and what do they mean when they say it? So I decided to ask! I built a survey intended to give me a glimpse into the minds and tastes of Zelda fans, and distributed it within the online Zelda fan community. I got nearly 6000 responses, an outstanding show of interest from my fellow fans, and learned a number of interesting things."

Interesting survey, great to see that players loved Majora's Mask.
About the art style, i don't know what's my favortie, the three games (Twilight Princess, Wind Waker and Skyward) has an amazing art.

The thing with Nintendo is, most of their popular franchise IP's are of characters that were created in the 80's or early 90's.

Those who grew up with them are now in their mid 20's, 30's, 40's 50's and those are who is still a fan of Mario & Legend of Zelda..ect...

* What your going to find about 20 years from now is that the largest concentration of Legend of Zelda players will be in their mid40's,50's &60's.

Fun Fact from that survey:

* Less than half the people surveyed had ever played a NES, & a little more than half had ever played SNES.

We want sequels to Twilight Princess, isn't it guys? (Please D=)

I don't get why people are so scared with voice long as it's not over done then I don't see the problem. It would allow Zeldas and Links relationship to develop more on screen.

They could mix English with Hylian to make it feel more...realistic.

I think they should do it in a spin off game, get a good dev to experiment with the franchise and see what they come up with. I'd love to see some experimentation with Zelda, least then it won't affect the main Zelda games. We could see different settings and all sorts.

I have faith under Nintendos guidance it would be good.

Zelda games is reading adventure . .

Reading actually helps you grow more neuro-pathways, remember the information better, and brings greater focus.

There is no valid reason for zelda games to go voice.

Maybe a new zelda game with a mix of voice acting and reading would work .

Can't we at least have the option to turn them on or off? I agree with Foxtrot that people seem to be afraid of change. I'm for it as long as it doesn't hurt the core element of the game and Zelda games are very story driven. Why not have voice acting? I would like Link to stay mute though. He's never spoken and the only times he has is those terrible CD-i games and the DiC show which wasn't much better.

"I agree with Foxtrot that people seem to be afraid of change"

It's not change people are afraid of, it's the fact it's most likely going to be complete trash.

Mario sunshine's voice acting... never forget o_o

To be fair Prime 3 had great voice acting and if they actually made an effort they could get good voice actors. I don't care about voice acting, but if they lack it they need to make it a lot less garrulous than SS.

Metallox1658d ago (Edited 1658d ago )

You can add voice acting in cutscenes, but in in-game no please, I don't want something as odd as The Elder Scrolls. Maybe something like Darksiders conversations would fit, but for now, I would go for safety; Xenoblade style is perfect for me.

players relate to Link more that way, give him the wrong voice accent and the link is broken. would you like it if he had a voice that reminds you of say, justin bieber?

not every change is a good change.

randomass1711657d ago

I completely agree! But the other characters in the games speak all of the time. Wouldn't it be alright to have an option to toggle their voices on or off to satisfy both kinds of fans? And yes, let's keep Link mute. Link has never spoken before and he doesn't need to start now.

Four words, Fox:

"Well Excuuuuuuuuse me, princess!"

randomass1711657d ago (Edited 1657d ago )

Yeah, I think we can all agree that that was pretty terrible, but keep in mind that show was from DiC and those guys were never very good at anything. But look at Kid Icarus Uprising or Metroid Prime 3. Nintendo is more than capable of providing good or even great voice acting for their characters and I think Zelda could benefit greatly if they handle it carefully.

Something from 1989...

It's 2014 man...things have changed and gotten better.

randomass1711657d ago

Well Foxtrot, seems we're in the minority on this one lol. Out of curiosity, if you could go back and think of a voice for a particular Zelda character, who would it be? My personal favorites would be Kevin Michael Richardson for Ganondorf in Wind Waker, Jennifer Hale for Zelda in Twilight Princess and Monica Rial for Princess Ruto.

MWH1657d ago

the world of the legend of Zelda has and always been a sort of an enchanting refuge for gamers who seek a rich and unique gaming experience away from the hundreds of the random masses.

the more realism you add to it the more you take from it and eventually turning into yet another adventure game.

I'm not against change but the kind that adds to its uniqueness and not otherwise.

-Foxtrot1657d ago (Edited 1657d ago )

We're in the minority because people hate change. Most moan on about Nintendo needing to get with the times then when someone suggests something to push one of their franchises forward a little, it causes a cry for help. Your basically giving Nintendo an excuse to not try at the end of the day, how can you know how bad it's going to be if nobody wants them to at least try with a spin off game.

I wouldn't want big dramatic dialogue...I just don't want Link to be a plank of wood going along with whatever people ask of him, especially Zelda. Get some words in there, develop yourself, grow some balls and ask questions when your asked to do something...Why? What? Who? Where?

I would like to see Courtnee Draper voice Zelda, she did a great job in Bioshock Infinite.

wonderfulmonkeyman1657d ago

That's something that I can only partially agree with.
Even in this day and age, we still get lots of examples of really bad voice acting...
And at this point, honestly, giving him a voice and dividing the userbase between people who like the voice and people who hate it, would really just be an unnecessary risk.

This is one of those cases where leaving it alone can't actually hurt anything.
If they insist on it, then a good middle ground would be giving Link some scripted lines in text boxes, like the other characters have.
It would ruin the feel of Link being the avatar for the player rather than his own person, though, which is something that Nintendo has stated they wanted to keep as a central theme to the universe.

randomass1711657d ago

Try to look at it from a fan's point of view. I can completely understand WHY people don't want to see it happen. Voice acting did not work out for the show, CD-i games and arguably for Metroid Other M. It CAN go wrong, but Nintendo just needs to handle it carefully, so neither side is actually in the wrong here. However I still firmly believe Link should remain mute though. His silence is part of the series' charm.

That's an excellent choice! I just finished Burial At Sea and her performance as Elizabeth was absolutely exquisite. Maybe in a future game they can get Troy Baker to Link's grunt noises!

Only if it's complete Moon Fairy Speech thru and thru(Midna's style of gibberish speech).

I could buy Majoras Mask on VC but I dislike the time mechanics in it. I'm sorry but OoT is better!

Chard1657d ago

Twilight Princess, although still really good, is probably my least favourite 3D Zelda. Then again, I played it immediately after Skyward Sword, which I considered amazing.
