Oculus Rift Sales Withdrawn in China Due to “Extreme Reseller Purchases"

Gamingbolt: "Oculus Rift won’t be sold in China as the company has banned sales in the country due to “extreme reseller purchases” and the fear that will diminish the global supply for real developers.
Responding to a user on Reddit, the company said that, “We’re slightly behind in manufacturing and there’s currently a high chance that some developers with estimated shipping in July may not have their DK2s shipped until August."

China will just make a rip-off that is really just a 16-bit console emulator, housed inside a wearable LCD mask. :o

Wait...that's actually not a bad idea. -_-

Good!! China is notorious for dirty retail tricks. They sell counterfeit items, rip off company's IP's, and have pretty much destroyed Ebay. I'm glad to see somebody standing up to their BS!

Funny...maybe if greedy and unscrupulous American businesses didn't exploit cheap Chinese labor and other 3rd world countries economies, they wouldn't need to sell you the knock-offs so many Americans like to have other poeple think they can afford.

Just my two cents on the matter.

mr2333595d ago (Edited 3595d ago )

I'm willing to pay a little more if that is what is necessary to bring the jobs back here and not use cheap labor.

But let's be real. It is the greedy Chinese unscrupulous business people who are charging regular price for counterfeit merchandise. They aren't giving that money to the "cheap labor" and taking care of their own. As a matter of fact, judging by their business practices, they are most likely using the very same cheap labor to make their knockoff faulty products.

You can't blame American companies for going out of the country to make their products when our own country is so unfriendly towards business. That does not give these criminals the right to illegally copy and profit off of other people's ideas. And in the process, rip off the end user.

My two cents.

Good. Maybe that means I'll get my DK2 sooner.

That's fine. GT7 would overshadow it anyway at it has open wheel and regular cars.

Should have been spending their time updating Squadrons with better resolution, frame rate, haptics, etc as there isn't a game like that on PS VR 2 yet.

But it's EA. They don't think.

Babadook7363d ago

I agree. It would sell better on PSVR2 right now.

Knushwood Butt363d ago (Edited 363d ago )

A wasted opportunity, but I don't buy EA / Codemasters stuff anyway. Grid Legends just came out on Plus and I haven't touched it. Why would I when I have GT7 and PSVR2?

Abnor_Mal363d ago

Not into F1 racing, but still a missed opportunity.

ApocalypseShadow363d ago

That's where opportunity presents itself that they could offer something else that other developers haven't offered yet. Yeah. There's No Man's Sky. But a space game with a story would be great. Like the old days with Colony Wars.

Abnor_Mal363d ago

Exactly, they could have possibly lured more players just from the inclusion of a vr mode.

I miss Colony wars and G-Police, Low-Fi I hope will scratch that itch when it releases. We also need a vr War/Starhawk game.

Knushwood Butt363d ago

Just watched the trailer of Low-Fi. Most definitely on my radar.

Although I never owned an oculus, I played the demo for this at an electronics store. Pretty impressive in an early goings of VR title.
