Nintendo HD Part 1 - A Return to Rare

From GamesReviews:

"Giving games the HD treatment is not a new concept. In fact, companies have been doing it for years, and will likely continue for the foreseeable future. Not only is it an opportunity for developers to make more money, but it is also an opportunity for fans to relive some of the best games that are, more than likely, unavailable for them presently. For myself, I have pushed through remakes of Banjo-Kazooie (N64) on the Xbox 360, Monkey Island (PC) on my iPad, and most recently, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (Gamecube) on my Wii U. All these titles have been worth playing a second time, and many more, equally worthy games, sit around waiting for their own HD treatment. Because of a struggling Wii U, Nintendo is the most likely of the big three to go this route."

Ahhhh...Rare era with Snes/N64 games was my favorite!!!

Moonman3583d ago (Edited 3583d ago )

Say that again Sir Cranky! :)

Benjaminkno3583d ago

Poor Rare.. It seems the best days are behind you... *sigh*

Moonman3583d ago

I am just wishing that Nintendo could get Banjo back on their turf to let Nintendo EAD give him the best comeback ever! :)

Software_Lover3583d ago

It's all to do with how we see the console makers and the illusions we have toward them. The last Banjo game was pretty good. It would have probably gotten a higher rating if it were the same exact game but on the Nintendo console. It would have sold more also. It's all about perception.

@Software_Lover

Nuts and Bolts was an awful game. It felt like they were trying to make 3 different games then said screw it and mashed them together. Rare needs to let Conker and Banjo go to a developer who cares about the franchise and the fans. If we learned anything from E3 this year it's that MS doesn't care about Rare, the amazing franchises they have left to collect dust, or the fans who have been begging for a true sequel.

Really wish Grant Kirkhope had gotten the ex-rare employees together to make a true successor to Banjo Kazooie.

If Nintendo does indeed hold all the rights to remake Donkey Kong 64 (according to the article)....remake it for Wii U!!!! It would be so awesome and a big seller IMO.

GamingSinceThe80s3583d ago

And there is still the question of why they took down the Wii V.C DKC games a couple of years ago for no said reason.

wonder would Nintendo contract Rare to reboot Battletoad ??

ZeekQuattro3582d ago

Now there's a classic. I would love to see a re-imagining of that franchise. Even better Battle Toads Double Dragon.

TheRacingX3582d ago

There have been murmurings for a while about Battletoads being rebooted.....I would not be surprised to see it...I think you are going to see alot of the Rare classic stuff on X1, Microsoft has finally opened their ears and heard the fans. Killer Instinct is a step in that direction. I think its been slow to get these games going because of legal wranglings with Nintendo, publishing contracts, etc. I think there will be a Battletoads, Conker, and Jet Force Gemini on the X1 near term....

I'd put Street Fighter 2 over 3. 2 and all its different versions dominated the arcade scene back in the day in a way that 3 never did.

Abear21172d ago

Agreed, Same with Metal Gear Solid imo. Came for Bioshock and was not disappointed. Would easily put Burger Time or Space Taxi over tempest. Also, OG Sim City and Oregon Trail. Mario 64 as well. Just too many!

Abear21172d ago

Never played it I gotta get on this one

Double_O_Revan172d ago

Me too. I didn't have a GC until way later and never played it. I've been waiting on Nintendo to release the HD edition on the Switch for forever, but they just won't!

FinalFantasyFanatic171d ago

I never bought a Gamecube, I've always had an urge to play this game, maybe it'll get a remaster in the future.

LoveSpuds171d ago

I played it on WiiU for the first time and it remains my fave Zelda game to date. So much character and a real sense of exploration without the open world bloat.

Petebloodyonion172d ago

Ms Pacman?
Robotron?
SSF2 Turbo over 3 simply by the 10000000000's ports of the game we're still having
Castlevania SOTN?
Zelda Link to the Past over Wind Waker
Super Mario Bros 3?
Chrono Trigger?
Resident evil4?
COD MW2 (the original)?
Uncharted 2
Metal Gear Solid?

Here's my reasoning for all of them versus the list proposed in the article.
They are still quite enjoyable from start to finish on their original platform, unlike some Wind Waker or Okami that are fun when you play the remastered version (unless you call: forced to watch a 20-minute cutscene or have to blow for wind chance constantly fun).
Some of them are the pinnacle of what the console could do (MGS, Chrono, MGS)
Lots of them are still considered the go-to-go game for their genre.

Said it before but Heart of Darkness is truly a timeless gem.
