I wouldn't categorize some of the games I have played as YouTube games. But I have purchased a few games I knew nothing about because I watched done on YouTube play them. Octodad was hilarious to watch. But like the author said about surgeon sim, I beat octodad but never enjoyed it as much as I did watching someone else at it.
But I will say one of my favorite games, Outlast, I purchased after watching it on YouTube. I hadn't even heard of it till a month or two before it hit PS+.
YouTube is a very powerful marketing tool now. Some developers claim they should be paid for the YouTuber broadcasting it. That's just greed. Yet others send out alpha or beta versions knowing it gains then exposure. If developers were smart they would all send out games to the big name YouTubers.
