The Problem With The "Gamer Girl"

Rich Drummond of Gaming Tech United writes:

"Misrepresentation in any community is something that I just am not a fan of. Whether it be a certain gender a certain race of people, or anything in between, misrepresenting people will only cause stereotypes to be formed and for the people being stereotype to be put into uncomfortable positions. We run into this problem when we take a look the "Gamer Girl". My problem isn't with what they're doing, it is with how they are misrepresenting a vast majority of female gamers."

99.9% of the time I don't. But when that gamer is a hot piece of..pie.. I do care alot! ;-)

I can't stand it when females make a big deal of being a gamer. We are ALL gamers and let's leave it at that.
I used to say that in my eyes, there is no sex when it comes to gamers. Then I realized how awkward that statement sounded. Doh!

The only experience I remember having while playing online with a female was during Halo 4.

She was running at me down a hallway and shooting an assault rifle so I went through a door and dropped a plasma grenade right at my feet and kept running. Right when she entered the door to follow the grenade blew up and killed her. Keep in mind, i had no idea it was a girl until after she died, and if I had tried that 10 times in a row it wouldn't have been timed any perfect. It just happened to work perfectly this time.

When she died she came on the mic and started complaining that I was cheap for killing her with a grenade. Now, anyone that plays Halo knows how integral grenades are. There's nothing "cheap" about it. She just fell for the trap and it pissed her off.

Im not using this as a reason to say all girl gamers are like this, and we all know that there are plenty of whiny guys that play too. This just happened to be the only memorable time I can remember a girl being online.
