Ubisoft has rebuilt Assassin's Creed tech "from scratch" for Xbox One

If you were to place a copy of Assassin's Creed: Unity next to an Xbox 360, the clingfilm would flinch back, then split and pucker into an angry, growling mouth. Ubisoft wants to make a fresh start on next generation consoles, see, and that applies as much to the game's engine as the new parkour mechanics and mission types.

Awesome, if they achieve that 1080p 60fps they are shooting for I will be amazed after seeing how great the game looks.

CervantesPR4006d ago

you must be crazy to think ubisoft will be targeting 60FPS lol for Assasins Creed Unity, since when has an open world game been 60FPS on any console? lol expect the game to get downgraded before release, after all this is how ubisoft rolls, game looked to good to be true, especially with all the massive crowds lol, remember dead ris-er framerate 3 for xbone? i expect the same scenario heck it might not even be 1080P on PS4 based on those massive crowds.

Mr Pumblechook4006d ago

Fanboy title created by Future's failing Xbox site.
I understand they have to present an Xbox angle, but to say that AC: Unity was developed for Xbox is a lie and bad journalism.

bixxel4006d ago

Didn't you read the earlier news? Besides. That's possible as this game is next gen only. And won't be held back by current gen hardware.

The_Hero4006d ago

AC4 is 1080p on the PS4.

Beastforlifenoob4006d ago

I just don't want more of the ubisoft formula (i.e. follow this man then kill him, radiotowers/sync points, etc, etc)

60FramesPerSecond4006d ago

Hopefully upcoming games will have less of a difference between xb1 and ps4 versions.

TheRedButterfly4006d ago

They will. These new SDKs and general developer understanding are already rendering parity between the consoles. #Destiny (And we're only like 7 months into the generation.)

60FramesPerSecond4006d ago

good. cause i wanna play me some good graphics games

porkChop4006d ago

Don't use Destiny as an example of parity between the consoles. Bungie has already said that the game is identical on both platforms because they wanted it to be. They intentionally held back the PS4 version. Like it or not, the PS4 is a lot more powerful. If a game is coded to take full advantage of both Xbox One and PS4, the game will *always* either run better or look better on PS4. That is an undeniable fact.

ALLWRONG4006d ago

porkChop's comment is what happens when you make shit up.

TheWatercooler4006d ago

AllWrongs comment is what happens when you're delusional.

JasonKCK4006d ago

"That is an undeniable fact" No it's not. Why do people think it becomes real if they put "fact" next to it?

JeffGUNZ4006d ago

@ Porkchop

"A lot more powerful", not really. It's more powerful, yes but not "a lot more".

HacSawJimThugin4006d ago

@ porkchop that sir is untrue. At best it's debatable if games run or perform better on the PS4. The multiplats that I have seen since this whole res gate madness have been nearly identical. Even if the the PS4 version looks or runs better it is not by a huge margin. It's extremely minimal. I swear this res gate rhetoric is beyond old. I often wonder if this is politics or gaming because all I read are recycled talking points and b.s. propaganda.

supraking9514006d ago

i mean, how many times has it been proven PS4 is superior version? Even if minimal. PS4 wins and PS4 will outsell it in June after the price cuT...i mean FEATURE cut.

HacSawJimThugin4006d ago

@supra is it really that serious? I don't care if the PS4 outsell, undersells whatever. If you guys keep touting the PS4 to be this perfect console you run the risk of inviting complacency from Sony. With MS being the underdog they are gonna work like mules to win back trust and market share...and it's working. The slight gap in multiplat performance isn't going to be enough to keep ppl interested for long. Once the undecided starts to evaluate games and features between the two this holiday season, what will Sony do come Christmas? Look at how the Xb1 has transformed thus far. I can't even begin to imagine what MS has in store for the holidays as far as features are concerned but you can believe it's going to be huge. The game selection is already out classing Sony in the up and coming months...like I said before. What goes up must come back down.

larrysdirtydrawss4005d ago (Edited 4005d ago )

welcome to almost parity...devs will keep them close to get max sales..thats how it works for the majority of multiplat games.its a-shame

bixxel + 10h ago

Didn't you read the earlier news? Besides. That's possible as this game is next gen only. And won't be held back by current gen hardware.

it is being held back by current gen,its called the x-one... like most multiplat games the 2 versions will look close to the same with the ps4 getting a little more extra so it doesn't blow by the xone(like its exclusives do) so it can get max sales.

lfc_4eva4006d ago

Totally agree dude.

I do find it amazing the number of disagrees you've received. Are these people truly saying they don't want both systems to look great next to each other? Isn't this better for all gamers to be getting a great version on their system? Perhaps they think the PS4 is being 'gimped' to please MS.

MorePowerOfGreen4006d ago (Edited 4006d ago )

You get the feeling Ubisoft wants to use cloud compute servers for the game(s). The game's design even points to this(advanced social features and unmatched AI in complexity and number). There was also a rumor that Ubisoft wanted to push DX12 hard in the future and lead all their future games on XB1. IMO The Division was factored in to this, when it comes to the game's delay. The crowds in ACU were so impressive they have remote CPU processing written all over them.

Expect any game shown at MSFT's E3 presser having a stage demo to be heavily backed by MSFT as the lead of platform focus. It's MSFT's turn.

EDIT

@truefan1

Just as confident as knowing where I'd seen that Crackdown 3 E3 trailer, just weeks before at Microsoft’s annual Build developer conference(was glad Phil Spencer confirmed the tech demo was crackdown 3) MSFT leaves clues purposely http://n4g.com/news/1540537...

LMAO! Keep the dream alive you nut job!

You are too funny, please continue...

HollowedSoul144006d ago (Edited 4006d ago )

haven't you xbox fans learned from titanfall's mentally challenged ai yet lol. still so naive about the harsh reality about putting big game features like intelligent A.I into an architecture that's performance varies solely on a variety of ISP speeds ranging from great all the way to horrible. cloud is a gimmick thought we all figured this out a long time ago....so come on guys get you're logic together and stop hoping on something that is 110% hopeless.....starting to get real pathetic....

jackdaniels4006d ago (Edited 4006d ago )

you mention logic, then use a 110%? 110% does not exist - simple maths LMAO, if you want to be logical be logical!

Gh05t4006d ago

@HollowedSoul14

Cloud computing is far from a gimmick I use it everyday to work. It feels that way in gaming because it hasn't reached its potential but the concept of running processes on external machines through a console (Not game but in network terms) is far from a gimmick and allows many people to do things that they wouldn't be able to do other wise without a ton of money spent.

I don't have it but isn't PSNow cloud computing? Isn't the game run from a server somewhere else and streamed in to your console. That is SaS which is by definition cloud computing. Unless you download the game and run it off the PS4 and I was mistaken.

@jackdaniels

11 is 110% of 10... Apparently "maths" not so simple for you. I made 300% return on one of my investments. I know what you are going for but to say it doesn't exist is a rather illogical argument.

I_AM_ CANADIAN_19894006d ago (Edited 4006d ago )

Cloud computing would only be more than a gimmick if majority of the worlds Internet wasn't garbage or just not reliable enough. By the time the ISP infrastructure of the world catches up with ms's cloud it won't exist or be relavant anymore due to the the fact it will be abandoned by ms. You can't build a game around a major feature like intellectual cloud ai while assuming everybody has the ISP speed / ping to run it that would be absurd. the whole point of consoles is everybody gets the same expierence. Maybe cloud computing has a future but unfortunately it's in the hands of the monopoly of ISP providers around the world, mostly North America and remote areas ( outside of major city's ) that are gimping the worlds Internet structure for the sole purpose of maximum profits. To many ignorant people out there praising cloud gaming because they have awesome Internet, which therefore means everyone else in the world must Aswell. People forget about Internet outages or Internet Ping spikes. So basically unless you have flawless Internet you're intellectual ai will lag. I'll take the console that can do intellectual ai from the ground up through better hardware any day.

Like is it that hard to understand even Sonys giaki has issues aswell, not everyone will be able to use psnow, which is fine because the service isn't a major game feature like ai it is an optional non mandatory paid prescription service. You are comparing apples to oranges.

Ms cloud is just dedicated servers and that is it ( even ms admitted that after titanfall cloud features were a complete failure. For f sakes even grunts from halo put up a better fight than the titanfall AI.

When it comes to gaming reliably and efficiently HARDWARE > CLOUD COMPUTING. Only way that will ever change is if the ISP providers of the world pull there heads out of their asses, get together and build a reliable, fast, efficient, spider web world Internet infrastructure. Ubisoft is simply just trying to dance like a monkey for ms so ms will keep throwing money in their hat. Nothing spectacular is going on with cloud computing in the gaming industry. Sorry to burst peoples dreams of gaming high up in the clouds of Xbox one...lol

TheWatercooler4006d ago (Edited 4006d ago )

The delusion is painful.

@HollowedSouls.
Xbox fanboys don't really care about being pathetic

Revengeance4006d ago

Wow MS brainwashed you good if you think the cloud will have anything to do with AC Unity's development.

@MPOG I hope you are on to something.

Yes the title should be Ubisoft has rebuilt Assassin's Creed tech "from scratch" for next gen consoles.

Which makes sense since it's not coming to PS3 or 360.

Three companies keep showing their true faces and telling us who they are but for some weird reason we refuse to believe them. Even when everything they show just makes their greediness even stands out more

Keep messing with the consumers and keep being greedy. Keep telling your consumers to get comfortable now owning your games and we will. You only have few IP's that gamers care about anyways so

"soon enough tencent will buy you out. They already own 49%. Keep deleting games from gamers libraries and getting sued over it instead of making offline play possible for the crew" it's sad that I believe in 10 cents more than UBI because atleast tencent knows how to run a proper business

These executives can taking millions and bonuses and stock options yet they fire those actually making the games without thinking twice. Gaming has become so greedy that their own greed will be their downfall. Companies like Capcom have realized making good quality games and treat gamers with respect

AC series started with a soul but now it's just a soulless empty option world with icons filling the game map. They make their own games so grindy so that they can see the XP boosters to even the odds. As a gamer in my 40's all I want to know is when did gaming just stop being about Fun and all about greed. Double XP weekends selling cosmetics and dances. I use to be a big sports game guy when I was in my 20's the other day I wanted to play NBA 2k and after doing some deep research I realized the best NBA game was 2k17 and NBA 2k25 at $9.79 I couldn't pull the trigger on that 2k25 for how egregious the micro transactions were. So much of the fun is behind a pay wall

dveio34d ago

True words, buddy.

Q: "So how many units did Shadows sell?"

Ubisoft: "Well, look, we ... it's been a busy week."

neutralgamer199234d ago

For over a decade, the price of video games remained steady. We paid $50, then $60 for full, content-rich experiences. Developers found creative ways to deliver incredible games without charging more. From the PS2 era through the PS4/Xbox One, pricing consistency gave players a sense of value and trust.

But then came the jump to $70 during the PS5 and Xbox Series X launches—justified by "rising development costs." And now, barely four years later, we’re seeing $80 price tags becoming more common for standard editions. At this pace, by the time the next generation of consoles launches around 2027, $90 games could be the norm. And with a behemoth like GTA 6 on the horizon, a $99.99 base price wouldn’t be shocking at all.

Yet we’ve also seen proof that this kind of pricing isn’t necessary for success. Look at the recent launches of Expedition 33 and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Both released at $49.99 and have been met with strong sales and positive reception. These games show that there’s still plenty of room for high-quality, mid-budget (AA) titles that offer great value—and gamers are more than willing to support them at fair prices.

But here’s the problem: the big publishers don’t care. If we as consumers keep paying for deluxe editions, early access, and overpriced base games, they’ll keep pushing the limits. They’re not going to back down unless we speak with our wallets—because that’s the only language they listen to. If they see record sales, they’ll take it as validation.

It’s frustrating when these same companies report record-breaking revenue and profits—yet still complain about tariffs, still find excuses to raise prices, and still hand out bigger bonuses to their CEOs. If they’re doing so well financially, why are they passing more of the burden onto players?

It’s because gaming has become the second biggest entertainment market in the world. And with that comes attention from hedge funds, investors, and boardrooms focused on short-term profit, not long-term player trust. To them, your passion is just a revenue stream. They care about quarterly numbers, not the health of the industry or the joy of the experience.

And unless we—as players—take a stand, the greed won’t stop. The monetization will grow, the price hikes will continue, and the soul of gaming will keep slipping away. The choice is ours. We can either keep paying more for less, or we can push back. One purchase—or one refusal to purchase—at a time

dveio34d ago

"And unless we—as players—take a stand, the greed won’t stop."

And that's the tough part about it.

Look at those annual figures showing billions and billions of money being spent on the most ridiculous add-ons, DLCs, pre-release accesses, even pre-orders, digital deluxe crap, etc.

I mean - we've stood together at times. I don't say it didn't happen before.

But within all of our communities there's so much passive aggressive defensiveness.

Look at the debates regarding physical vs digital.

Publishers can't keep a straight face reading our discussions in which many people abandon physical.

Playing straight into the cards of publishers out there.

neutralgamer199233d ago (Edited 33d ago )

Like I said gamers are the biggest issue with gaming. We may united on a issue but as soon as our favorite gaming franchise gets a release we will support it. If there any doubt Mario kart will be one of the best selling games on switch 2?

Things we use to unlock by simply playing a game has not be sold to us as extra content

Rainbowcookie34d ago

I think people arebgetting tired of the formula. We see it in sales. People just want fun again.

neutralgamer199233d ago

I just want games to be fun and not geindy and full of micro transactions

anast34d ago

Even the $130 ultimate editions of UBI games are only a bit less grindy and they still beg people to buy helix coins throughout the whole experience.

It's a travesty what 2K did to NBA 2K.

neutralgamer199233d ago

It really is because NBA 2K is simply unplayable without spending money and you can't even respec for a new my player you are required to spend again

Chocoburger34d ago

Ubishit burned so many bridges with fans, releasing filler dreck that was purposefully designed to push you towards micro-trash-actions. It didn't have to be this way, they could have respected us players more, instead of making players waste countless hours of their life just to see stupid "experience points and resources numbers go up" and attempt to profit off us in such a disrespectful way. I stopped supporting them a long time ago. Keep burning bridges, and keep burning your company from within.

S2Killinit34d ago

Which UBI games did that? Im legit asking.

Chocoburger33d ago (Edited 33d ago )

Any game (be it Ubisoft or any other company) with an unnecessary shoe-horned in experience points system, endless resources collection, and a micro-trash-action store that sells you boosters that alleviate the grind.

They do it on purpose to nudge players towards spending more money, and its something I refuse to support. Nearly all modern Ubisoft games have experience points and skill trees these days, not because it makes the games better, but because it can potentially make them more money by exhausting people into giving in and buying boosters.

Assassin's Creed, Ghost Recon and more series are offenders of this game design blight.

S2Killinit33d ago

I see. And I agree. I dont like these trends either. Although I dont remember AC having paid upgrades (given that my last one was black flag)
