The Xbox One is coming to China! In September to be exact. The biggest question now is how much the Xbox One will cost once it launches in the Middle Kingdom, and Chinese media is suggesting that the price will be... EXTREME!
Great price. You can never pay to much for solid gameplay. Titanfall is worth every penny.
Sarcastic Meter just blow up then
Why does it cost 800$? It's funny to think about it, but most electronics are made in China, yet the cost is almost 27% higher than elsewhere. The reason for the higher prices is because China has something called a value-added tax, commonly known as a VAT tax. The VAT is a form of sales tax, but it's not. The cost of the VAT is added directly to the cost of the product, think sales tax included but much more. The Chinese government has set the VAT for goods in China at 17%. Ok... It's 17%~27%, it's still not double it's price. kinect bundled is 60% more.
@The_Hero Im not sure if this isnt the media doing a simple currency conversion and then claiming that the Chinese are paying the equivalent to $800 dollars in their currency. Bare in mind this is Kotaku.
does it come with 6 games?
$800??!? Damn that is expensive! I can only imagine how much more the retail games are going to cost.
@TekoIie It's Kotaku with their usual anti MSFT/Xbox controversy manufacturing knowing certain types of gamers would run with the misinformation. I'm surprised Kotaku is at it again so soon after their last blunder with the XB1 June SDK update and the GPU and Kinect misinformation.(Saying the GPU would only work if Kinect was unplugged, then implied that the GPU was the only improvements to the June SDK update) MSFT had to actually come out and set the intentional damaging propaganda straight with the June update(GPU/Kinect), looks like they had to do it again with this.
The reason for the price is because of the taxes. Importing anything into china is nearly a 1.5 tax. Add on the idea of it recently being un-banned and probably taxed for being a gaming device and there you have it. 800USD. On the other hand, the ps4 will also be extremely expensive. Luckily though, no one in the small markets will sell for that price because they imported differently and didn't have to pay that outrageous price. The same way as they have been doing for the past 15 years. A lot of people are under the concept that it wasn't here before but in fact, most people who gamed had a 360 or ps3. (mainly 360 because it could be pirated then later a lot of ps3's because they could pirate it too.)
@Tekolie Kotaku is a big xbox supporter not the other way around.
In summary, the price came from a website that couldn't be verified. China has a high sales tax. This leads to high prices on other goods such as Apple products. Still, hasn't stopped the trolls charging in with their comments early. SMH
Kotaku updated the article it reads as follows. UPDATE: Microsoft has responded with the following: "Microsoft Stores China is conducting a special promotion to engage local fans and customers that includes an opportunity to win a RMB 4,999 Microsoft store e-coupon every week in July. This amount is unrelated to the price of the Xbox One in China. We have not made any pricing announcements of Xbox One in China."
No, Titanfall is fun, but not $800 fun.
Titanfall is the most fun I've had in a long time, it'll tide me over until the fall games release :)
I really hope Sony is paying you good money man. You're going far and beyond the call of duty.
BS that console is made there in China..so from China you wont have any shipping charges..so i am expecting at least the $499 amount or $399w/o kinect
it doesnt work like that. In most countries you have to pay more for things made in your country anyway, I can imagine it will be very high in price at the launch.
i'm not even mad..that's AMAZING!
Sarcasm I hope.
You're weird. I don't get you.
He needs those bubbles.

Double the US price, ouch!
Go from 8 bubbles to 1 at the snap of a finger. Has to be a record.
there is multiple Nextlevel account lol.
You sound like a f**king Idiot. Yes, I can hear how stupid you sound typing this.
Is he serious?
NextLevel are you out of your mind?
Dude, your sarcasm knows no bounds. China is filled with PC gamers, an $800 X1 would be DOA.
Well that will definitely be a sells limiter. Couple that with the harsh bans on anything resembling violence, sex and drug, and one could say the Xbox1 has its work cut out for itself.
It still makes sense in a way , but I hate it when people say sells instead of sales. Just getting it out there.
I was going to say the same thing lol , there seems to be a large amount of people that use sales and sell in the wrong place. It should have been "well that will definitely be a sales limiter"
I hate when people do that. Their very annoying.
does it come bundled with kinect or do they gotta shell out a $1,000 dollars extra? either way seems very steep.
Man that's high, but dang the I phone costs $1100 and sells like hotcakes in china. Hopefully MSFT can get the price a little cheaper. Getting those initial sales and making headway in a new market seems like it would be the most important thing before the other consoles make it there.
Price must be wrong then. iPhone is almost twice the price of an X1 here in Oz. Should make Xbox around the $600 mark in China.
I can't see X1 taking off in china at that price.Surely MS knows that.
Even at $400, they would have a hard time moving significant numbers...at $800? Forget it, it's just not going to sell! People tend to ignore the fact that the Chinese ARE avid gamers...on PC. Neither the Xbox or the PS4 are going to do well in that country.
Expensive. Probably won't do too hot right now. I don't know how well they will sell. I was gonna say the PS4 could do better at a lower price, but I don't know. The Chinese and the Japanese hate each other.
Chinese and Japanese don't hate eachother, quit talking out of your ass
Not true I've lived in China for three years. It is very true. Sure not everyone but that ideology is very real.
I work with both Chinese and Japanese foreigners and we talk about this sort of stuff a lot. All of them say the same thing, that the average person in their country doesnt really care about some random islands in the middle of nowhere or events that happened over 70 yrs ago. Sure it is easy to stoke nationalism specifically in China, but that is not the same as saying they hate Japan or vice versa.
People from China buy Japanese products all the time. They may have boycott things in the past, but they could careless if a product that appeals to them comes from a Japanese corporation.
how quickly we forget ww2
Lol, so does France still hate Germany then?
How quickly we make stupid comments.
Because china loves America right? Remember the open door policy, korean war, the trillions america owes them?
Yeah because china has no hatred for AMerica Right? the country that owes them trillions of dollars lol
You mean the country that supports their economy? Yeah. I dunno man
http://www.economist.com/bl... SK any luxury retailer where their most valuable customers are from and most will say China. The post-2008 years have not been the easiest for luxury brands, but China's apparently unquenchable thirst for all things bling has made up for the slowing down of European consumption. By some estimates, half of the world’s luxury spending will come from Chinese wallets by next year. The Chinese taxman, however, is missing out on the splurging: around two-thirds of luxury products bought by Chinese (and often made in China) are purchased outside the country. Why do the Chinese spend so much on luxury goods abroad? Microsoft and Sony i guess might have a hard time shifting consoles in China afterall?
it doesent matter what price it will be, because 1 month after the xbox launches youll start to see xbox xinfor 10% of the overall cost. They copy cars, phones, everything
Early death for XB1 in China. Raid Kills Bugs Dead!
Consoles have been banned in China since i don't know when? So you never know Chinese kids might react differently to what we expect and they might buy it as its a new exciting item for them?
It's not like didn't have access to consoles before. They just couldn't buy them in China.
and yet half the idiots on this site praise communism
Name brand products are surprisingly expensive in china, I just got back from there expecting cheap electronics... This is a bit much though, ios and samsung devices are everywhere and cost maybe 50-100 more than in canada
they certainly wont be playing bf4......
800 for an Xbox One, this is a joke right? With or without Kinect?
People in other parts have been paying a thousand.
with the kinect the cloud, dx13 and a 50% gpu unlock
Looks like people will be buying the One the way that have been for the last couple of months. Not legally but definitely more affordable
€500 here in Europe is as much as 684 dollar in America, so almost $700… BUT BUT BUT I HAVE PS4 HIIII EVERYONE BARK BARK

Until the price actually comes out nobody will know, since this isn't the actual price.
Well, it's clear that Xbox is sort of luxury for Chinese, but with such price guess Sony will be dancing in aisles again
I guess most people just dont read and just keep jumping on the hate wagon: UPDATE: Microsoft has responded with the following: "Microsoft Stores China is conducting a special promotion to engage local fans and customers that includes an opportunity to win a RMB 4,999 Microsoft store e-coupon every week in July. The XB1 will be DOA in China
I wonder how much cock MS sucked to be able to sell in China?
