Halo: The Master Chief Collection was revealed at E3 2014 to much fanfare but has drummed up its fair share of controversy.
Like in Pre-rendered ?
https://halo.bungie.net/ima... Could be worse, they could have just said screw it, and made the game just up rezzed of this.
That's what 343i did say when they first made the Halo Anniversary.
There's that word again: 'cinematic'. The Order: 1886 apparently has an unusual resolution and is said to be 'cinematic' too.
@Raf1k1. The Order is a next gen game made especially for PS4. Halo 2 is a gen before last game. If the XB one can't even display this decade old game in native 1080p then that is very disappointing. If a first party studio can't do this then third party studios will also face difficulties.
You're right and I agree. There's no way Halo 2 shouldn't be able to run at full 1080p 60FPS. From what I've seen it looks like the same game with high res textures and some extra effects thrown in.
It was a two gen old game that is being completely remade, it's not just the same game with new textures. As well as a brand new engine version, it is running the original engine and entire game is running in the background so you can instantly switch back and forth
I think what The Order has is the same thing Beyond: Two Souls had. A different cinematic aspect ratio (Black bars at the top and the bottom) just like they have in cinema's. This means that resolution can be slightly lower because on a regular HDTV, its less pixels because of the aspect ratio.
@Raf1k1 The order cracks me up. It's got black cinematic bars and runs at a cinematic 30fps. What a spin so many people ate that crap up. They couldn't just say hey it's a fun game but it's not going to run at 1080p 60fps.
@ Raf1k1 quoting you on this "From what I've seen it looks like the same game with high res textures and some extra effects thrown in" ummmmm this is an HD remake or did you forget that detail?
Not this crap again. It's the same site as well. Gamingbolt should be renamed 1080p graphics website. Has no one else noticed this seems to be all they post about?
Nah they cover all manner of fanboy baiting BS. Resolution is just the biggest technical term they actually understand, so they come back round to it a lot. So if they're going to rename, I vote fanboybaitingBS. It'd be better if they just shut down completely though.
@gamer1138. Don't shoot the messenger. They're just reporting what Microsoft/ 343i said.
No, they are sensationalizing something that is in the works and not final product to get site hits.
By reporting you mean retelling a story that's already been reported on. I know its common practice but its not like they really add any perspective that's worth a damn.
Yeah, I mean really. Who shops based on performance any more? Seriously...when you are shopping for, say, a car...do you REALLY pay attention to horsepower? Or do you, like everyone else, pick a brand based on the marketing? It's ridiculous in this day and age that some so-called journalists are unfairly picking on Microsoft just because they can't play games in "Full HD"! I mean, 720p was good enough 5 years ago on TVs, wasn't it? Isn't it just unbelievable that people would expect Full HD graphics from a next-gen console? I mean really. People should just cough up their money and take what they get!
Why does this keep getting approved? I've seen this same information on this site from a different site. Just trying to stir up a storm over nothing? The only people who should have opinion or even care are those who are going the buy the game! Fed up seeing opinionated fans of other platforms who think it's all a big joke if you can't achieve 1080p, as long as it's 60fps and has the remastered gameplay and cutscenes, I don't care and neither does the majority of the Halo community.
So....if Halo 4 is 1080p 60fps and has way better visuals than the remastered versions. Why can't the dummies grasp that there are things obviously above their comprehension when they are not trying to be selective when beneficial armchair developers? This logic is staggering...I can get an essay about ROPs but you don't understand frame buffers? Oh no the dooms...let's just compare it to another developer doing real time engine transitioning....oh wait...
Because about 75% of people on here will downplay everything xbox even if they have no idea what it means.
the reason halo 2 is sub 1080p is because of 2 engines running at the same time right? or am i wrong
You are right.
So does Halo 1, but they don't seem to have a problem there.
@dumahim Logic would tell you that running halo1's frame buffer along side the modern frame buffer would be less difficult than running halo 2'a along side the modern frame buffer, considering halo2 has quite a few improvements over halo1.
@majorkilljoy , Here is the direct quote from Frank O'Connor of 343i Classic 1. All MP will be 1080p, 60fps, including H2 and H2 anniversary. 2. There's a chance that H2 Anniversary campaign could run at a different resolution to accommodate the second frame buffer. But the intent is to overcome that hurdle. 3. The H2 Anniversary graphics are from relatively early WIP. 4. We'll keep showing progress throughout the year using a process we call "game development." 5. This or its opposite will still make certain posters mad, because they're already mad and are looking for things to confirm that rage. http://www.neogaf.com/forum... So yes, Halo MCC will be awesome regardless if Halo 2 campaign is able to achieve its goal of 1080p due too running dual buffer but the other(1,3,4) are already 1080p and all MP maps is 1080p and 60fps, which is the major selling point of Halo.
Ding, ding, ding... Somebody actually read Franks comments and understands words! +Bub for a quick / easy synopsis.
Quite frankly who cares? The resolution didn't make the game any less enjoyable the 1st time I played it and I would guess it won't have any effect playing it again.
Good luck on that one. All those game are old, some 2 generations old. If Xbox One cant make these games all run 1080p 60fps they should never mention reslution or fps ever again. Its just sad at this point.
Besides the fact that there are 2 engines running simultaneously, one if them is being completely redone graphically. I don't know why I bother feeding the trolls
That's what you call "excuses". It's NO surprise that 1080p/60fps is what's hotly debated, THAT should be a priority above everything else. Can't have two different versions running at the same time? Oh well, because if you bring Halo 2 to market, a 2 gen-old game, NOT being 1080p/60fps, for WHATEVER reason, Xbots won't hear the end of it. Not like they hear the end of it, as it stands now...lol
Apparently, the issue stems around the instant-graphics switching feature... And as such, only affects halo2s single player, not the entire MC collection. The resources required to run 2 frame buffers simultaneously is making it hard to get the performance they seek at 1080p. If instant switching is so integral to their vision, I see no problem here. Also, there as been NO silent removal... They're being pretty open about this.
lol xbone new low and I mean very low
Very impressive if they can achieve two engines running simultaneously, one at 1080p and one less.
Absolutely no one who buys this game will give a damn. The resolution smear campaign has run out of steam. The PR monkeys are going to have to find a new tactic fast.
Nobody will care except the people who swear up and down that there's no difference between 1080p and 900/720p, and those that believe the XB1 will improve massively once the cloud starts raining and dx12 flexes its muscle. I can sorta understand why the running of two engines could be trouble. But then, this is also a game from two generations ago; the difference in performance between the OG Xbox and the XB1 seems like it should be large enough to not have this sort of problem.
Oh look my personal stalker is trolling again. What a surprise. Keep trying your best to sound like you're impartial or that you know what you're talking about.
LMFAO Halo remastered, games that arent known for being graphical powerhouses cant even run in 1080p on the Xbox One. Is no one else tired of Microsofts over promising and under delivering? I mean come on only 1 Halo game out of the whole collection is actually being remade and upgraded. Talk about slapping crap on a disc and calling it done.
It's a must buy for me as I have never played it . Why do people who own play stations bitch so much about stuff they are never going to play.
People who own play stations play these games too, jerk. Playstation fans wish ms would do something that would get their attentions and releasing halo doesnt.it would be like you have a wii u and don't play mariokart. So Nintendo said they are gonna release double dash updated. The wii u owner is like wtf
release the game to pc you morons
Don't think I've ever seen such biasedly spewed nonsense. This collection is a great reason to pick up xb1
My question is what is the big deal. I played hell out of halo and then I moved on. Don't get me wrong it will be fun to go's back and play every now and then but. There is no way in hell I'm going to spend major time in this 10 year old game. Bungee is releasing destiny I feel like people are gonna waste their money on halo
That is your choice.
"Cinematic Pixel Counds"... lol!
man the fanboys are flocking over here today, i guess they've just been waiting for something negative to come out about HMCC.
Sigh the power of Xbone, Sigh resolution, sigh frames, just play the game already! go 900p at 30fps yes!
I have had an account of Gaf for years. It used to be a site that you could go on and have a discussion, get help and give your point of view on subject matter. Now all I see is certain people twisting and spinning stuff. Its a shame really...how they have fallen from grace :( edit: Gamingbolt on the other hand..90% is to cause a @hit stir and 10% good news.
Wow such nonsense in these forums. Halo 2 is a complete remake of the original game with the standard game running in the background. Did anyone care that Bungie made Halo 3 that wasn't even displaying HD? Of course not. If Halo 2 runs at 720p that would be a good thing, it only means there using the power to do other things then just on pixel count. For those saying if the X1 cant do Halo 2 in 1080p then its sad, you clearly need a life, its what they want to do with the game. They can port the standard game across in 1080p and forget about the remake all together but F%^& that I would rather the remake over the port.
I am looking forward to having all the MAster Chief games in one package with better resolution, effects, lighting, textures, etc. Although I enjoy my PS4 more, I have an X1 as well, and have a soft spot for Halo as it got me back into console gaming 13 years ago. So I hope everything is worked out and it looks good and performs well.
It will be troubling if MS can't give their flagship franchise the promise of 1080p/60fps. I believe they said it would have both at E3. I could be wrong. Someone elaborate further into this.
