Why Nintendo is the biggest threat to my wallet come the holiday season

Quality release for Nintendo between the 3DS and Wii U during the first half year of 2014 has been few and far between. From the top of my head – Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, Bravely Default, Kirby Triple Deluxe and Mario Golf: World Tour being the highlights of the year so far from a Nintendo fan perspective. Not very impressive to say the least (in terms of quantity).

Luckily, the second half of the year is looking much better, in fact light years ahead by comparison. As a gamer, whom primarily plays on Nintendo consoles the holiday season will be nirvana – an explosion of pure awesomeness and bliss in the purest form. Unfortunately, while we be basking in the gaming orgy of quality titles, are wallets will be bleeding rupees like there is no tomorrow.

I can see why. They have a fairly consistent lineup of gamings coming out this year like Hyrule Warriors and Bayonetta 1+2, along with the indie stuff like Oddworld and Shantae. Not even sure I can afford everything I want, but I can certainly try.

Magicite2593d ago

But then again if you don't care about platformers/adventure games, your wallet is safe :D

randomass1712593d ago

But Bayonetta and Hyrule Warriors are more like hack 'n slash action games...

Godmars2902594d ago

Buy a WiiU. Buy many of the old and new DL titles, including the Capcom Library. Buy new WiiU games.

Yeah, it wallet murder.

randomass1712594d ago

Steam murders your wallet in the summer, eShop murders your wallet in the winter... I think Nintendo and Valve are in cahoots or something.

I genuinely don't understand the reasoning of Nintendo fans. How can they play the same Mario/Zelda/Metroid quartet over and over again and never tire of it?

Chrono2594d ago (Edited 2594d ago )

They just buy everything Nintendo makes blindly.

fonger082594d ago

No more than anyone would ever get tired of playing a Halo, Uncharted, or a FIFA. A good fun game is always welcome no matter the series or characters used.

Fel082594d ago (Edited 2594d ago )

The same way people play the same Halo/Call of Duty/FIFA/Battlefield games over and over again and never get tire of it. At least you get great gameplay and tons of fun from Nintendo games.

"How can they play the same Mario/Zelda/Metroid quartet over and over again and never tire of it?"

Maybe it's because THEY'RE NOT THE SAME GAME.

Does Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, A Link Between Worlds look the same to you? Nintendo constantly changes the graphics, art style, story and gameplay mechanics of their existing franchises to keep them fresh.

All you naysayers see is the name and assume it's the exact same game.

randomass1712594d ago (Edited 2594d ago )

Dang man, that was right on the ball. I agree wholeheartedly. Been playing my copy of Wind Waker HD and it feels nothing like how I remember Skyward Sword. Nintendo makes a lot of sequels, but those sequels don't share all the same elements from previous games. Well said!

GamingSinceThe80s2594d ago

Nintendo makes top quality games.Out of all game company's they by far have the highest average. You know when you buy a main series Mario/Zelda/Metroid/DK your getting a 9/10 to 10/10.And they almost always at some new hook/gameplay mechanic to each new game in a franchise. But by all means feel free to not play so of the best gaming has to offer.I just don't know why you feel the need to put others down for liking something you clearly don't.Which begs the question WHY ARE YOU EVEN HERE?

deafdani2594d ago

Because Nintendo knows how to keep their IPs fresh, that's how.

I guess that may be a bit hard for you to understand because other companies generally aren't anywhere near as good as Nintendo is at this.

randomass1712594d ago

For the same reason us Sony fans enjoy playing Ratchet games, or God of War games, or Uncharted games long after the first installment has been released. They're not all the same game, not by a long shot. Uncharted 3 was pretty different from Uncharted 1 and Zelda Wii U is probably going to be drastically different from Wind Waker HD. So there.

for me its 3rd party games that will be hurting my wallet. not nintendo, sony nor microsoft at least not this year.

_LarZen_2594d ago

Nintendo is out of touch with the average gamers. It's die hard Nintendo fans who keep them alive.

But for me and everyone I know that are gamers. Nintendo is not even up for discussion anymore.

Fel082594d ago (Edited 2594d ago )

Probably because everyone you know that are gamers feel the need to play games that involves blood and gore so they can call themselves 'hardcore gamers'. Open your mind a little bit and try to enjoy something else besides shooting each other, and yelling profanity over the mic.

_LarZen_2594d ago

If you mean that PC,PS4 and XBO only have blood and gore games then the joke is on you.

Myself and my gaming friends are adult men. We don't see the appeal anymore in Nintendo games. We grown past those type of games. So the WiiU as a system is not a option for us at all.

Hence Nintendo is not up for discussion anymore.

Fel082594d ago

As a owner of ps2, ps3, ps4, ps vita , WiiU and 3ds I'm quite aware of what each system has to offer, thank you very much.

If you are the type of person who thinks just because u hit a certain age, Nintendo games all of the sudden are too childish for you, than I feel sorry for you and your friends.

jcnba282594d ago

"But for me and everyone I know that are gamers. Nintendo is not even up for discussion anymore."

Yet you are still here writing comments on Nintendo articles lol

Real gamers play all types of games. Take your hate elsewhere.

_LarZen_2594d ago

I'm a gamer and even news about Nintendo is interesting. Even tho I personally do not game on that system anymore.

I am a gamer. Gamed since the Commodore 64 was state of the art tech. But you grow up, get older and gaming taste changes. As of now Nintendo games is not for me. And the WiiU is not in the same league as the other companies.

It's not about hate. It's about pointing out the obvious that you people cant accept.

The WiiU is a big failure.

fonger082594d ago

"But for me and everyone I know that are boring..." fixed.

I'm sure there is a generation of gamers out there that grew up on the PS2 and there's nothing outside of Playstation, I get that. However, I honestly believe those of us that grew up with the NES are more open to owning multiple consoles/handhelds. So everything and everyone is in the discussion.

thehobbyist2594d ago

"But for me and everyone I know that are gamers. Nintendo is not even up for discussion anymore."

Super Smash Bros Melee set the record for biggest audience at EVO last year. And that game was 12 years old at the time. How's that for discussion?

deafdani2594d ago

True gamers never count Nintendo out. So, you probably aren't really one of these.
