EA SPORTS UFC Review l GoodGameBro

GoodGameBro writes, "Somewhere along the line, things went really wrong for EA SPORTS UFC. As the first fully-licensed UFC game from EA Sports, the first post-THQ UFC release, and the first combat sport simulation for the next generation of consoles, the intrigue surrounding this release couldn’t be much higher. It’s a shame then that it falls so flat on its face."

learn how to play! reviews are just opinion written from someone that might hate or like the game they are playing but that's why we have our on opinions.

If the game is buggy and broken then yes it's a bad game but just because it doesn't play how you want it to doesn't mean the next gamer will have a problem with it.

Allsystemgamer3597d ago

Exactly. Once I got used to it it's awesome fun.

Simply two different opinions from different people on our staff.

As the staff member at GoodGameBro who wrote up the hands-on Career mode preview, I'd just like to illustrate the difference between playing a game for two hours (as myself and another staff member did a few weeks pre-release) and having the final game out in the wild for a third staff member (who didn't play the game pre-release) to devote significant time into for a review. In two hours, you see a lot of potential but you often don't get a sense of the long-term experience, while having the full game and spending multiple days writing a review allows a better look at the overall scope.

I personally think the final game can be quite fun, though it has issues that need to be handled, and I will be sharing my own personal impressions of my time with the full game once I've had more time to play it. However, I don't feel like that invalidates or lessens the opinions of the author who put legitimate time into playing the game and saw their own positives and negatives from the experience.

Glad to hear that you like the game and are enjoying the online play; growth of this game's community will be key to its success going forward.

I agree that the fighters aren't as diverse as they should be (since we were promised so much authenticity) and the menus are very absurd. And it does seem like fighters can take way too much punishment to the head, and knockouts are awkward. And the training is abysmal, yes.

BUT, I do think that the game is very fun. After getting used to the (poorly introduced) controls, I started to have fun I appreciate that not every action is a simple button-combo away. One thing must lead to another, then you can perform your submission or suplex takedown. I like the submission minigame, but I hate that I can't appreciate the fancy visuals and watch the submission actually happen because the minigame is so large. I do, however, like that it requires focus and seems like a chess match.

Hell, I didn't mean to sound like I'm writing my own review down in the comments >.< You had some fantastic points that even high-end magazines failed to mention, but I think the game was worth buying upon release.

I played all of the Undisputed games and loved them. Yes this one is a little more shallow and there are quite a few moves / modes missing. However, the striking is really fun and the simplified ground game is also pretty good. I like the submission system, my only problem is that it takes my eyes of off the submission itself. I know that would be hard to replicate. There's a few tweaks to be made but fun factor is a 9/10 for me. EA has a very solid foundation and next year could top ufc 3.

This game has some huge flaws but some how it's still fun.

EA Sports UFC 4 PS4 Review - PlayStation Universe

From PSU: "Without a doubt the best MMA videogame ever made, EA Sports UFC 4 supplements a welcome array of new offline and online modes with a revamped and endlessly sophisticated combat system that everybody can enjoy. For MMA fans it doesn't get any better than this."

Alexious1350d ago

Hmm, sounds worth a try for sure.

Strange as a lot of YouTube beta players hated it. They've had years and just copied and pasted ufc 3 ith a few new haircuts

yeahokwhatever1350d ago

its not fight night, so not buying it. do boxing or go home.

nowitzki20041350d ago

Go home and wait for Fight Night.

ActualWhiteMan1350d ago

Same... although they long ago fired all the developers that made FN great. So it would likely be terrible if it came back.

MadLad1350d ago

Comes to a UFC related game to whine about it not being a boxing game.

Ok.

FlavorLav011350d ago (Edited 1350d ago )

Well, for context EA did put in real boxers Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua in the game, and Isaac Frost and Andre Bishop from fight night champion in the last game. No getting around it, they have been c@ck teasing boxing fans for years with this sh!t pre-order dlc

yeahokwhatever1349d ago

these UFC games are trash, they play terrible. UFC is not really a good choice for a game because of the limited inputs controllers have. But EA got the license on the cheap, so they've been shoveling this crap at us for years while we wait patiently for a fight night that will probably never happen until Mayweather is dead or runs out of money.

zeroskie1350d ago

Same. I want another fight night so badly.

yeahokwhatever1349d ago

my wishes:
fight night primarily focused on online, like gt sport.
ONLY stick controls. No button mashing. if you try to mash buttons, your characters head explodes and he's permanently deleted from the game.

nowitzki20041349d ago

Same here, I love boxing more than MMA but I also want a good MMA game as well.

I agree with this review, I tried it only because it's free on EA Access and figured I'd hate it like I did the other games but lo and behold I loved it and plan to buy it now. The game is so much more fun now that they've made it so much less complicated and inaccessible to non-hardcore fighter fans.
