Make it a (Virtual) Reality: Uncharted

This feels real. You’re looking at the trail of footprints you’ve made leading along the beach and up into the jungle. Sandy marks turn to trampled grass as you head inland. It’s all created with stunning authenticity; waves gently brushing up onto the shore and an amazing variety of vegetation bending out of the way as you brush past. Of course, this isn’t the time to focus on such things as you have your back pressed up against an ancient, crumbling ruin as enemy fire vibrates its foundations. Bullets whizz past overhead, striking tree trunks. You think about popping your head out for a second when a small object drops by your feet. You look down. Grenade.

Uncharted is a third person game

kevco334018d ago

Yes it is. I don't get your point...

mushroomwig4018d ago

His point is VR doesn't really work if you're playing in a Third Person perspective.

kevco334018d ago

Then his point is wrong!

I've played many games in third-person in VR and many of them are better experiences then first-person games!

Wni04018d ago

Its not that you can not do it, but the way he writes the article, he describes a FPPOV.

Uncharted's have a cinematic style of play, each camera angle as you progress through the levels pans around like its a movie, and would ruin the aesthetic of that if it was in VR.

Some people need to see it to believe it.

Humans, please use your imaginations responsibly, you could imagine your beloved 3rd person game in VR as awful or amazing. You could imagine that burly unwashed men are holding you down, tightly strapping goggles to your face and you just hate how 3D it all is, just like that awful real life view. Then you're in the game running for your life and you're getting sick from the VR, you're projectile vomiting god knows where since you can't see and when you pull the headset off the suction makes your eyes fall out, and since you're alone with your VR since it's soooo antisocial nobody will be there to put your eyes back in... Or you could trust them to do it the right way since apparently these games are great (haven't played them sadly).

Unless NaughtyDog makes it an option to change from 3rd to 1st person just to make use of VR-tech..

Do hope it's still possible to have 3D-enable ( in 3rd person view ) as with Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception.

VR is the next gimmick. Stick to my controller and stick to the way Uncharted was meant to be played.

AgentSmithPS44018d ago

Can't tell if serious or just trolling. Here's your sign.

Based on human history I assume that people used to say cars were gimmicks, cars take you where you want to go just like VR can take you where many people would like to go, inside great games.

VR will keep getting better and you can't please everyone but it's there for those that want more.
Based on all the reviews I've read on Morpheus I know it's good enough for me.

sure things get better as time goes on but keeping things simple is the best way to go.

Cars back then cars were simple, but they were heavy, obnoxious, didn't handle very well or stop as well as they should.

Then cars started getting lighter, faster, better brakes, better handling, not much electronics still and these are the prime examples.

Now, everyone wants every kind of computer assist, everything's getting complicated and things are breaking down easier. It's because people think the cars are progressing when they're deterring. People are becoming so handicapped by the car basically driving them you wonder why there are more and more non defensive drivers every day, less manuals, and more rear view camera's despite the car being designed to have the most obscuration behind the driver's seat.

But that's a different story than VR...

VR may be enticing for some, but I'd rather sit down comfy with a controller and a tv, just like when I started on my NES. I don't want to wave my hand with a wiimote or touch every screen like most ds games. Just keep it simple and make the games better. Don't give me a different way to play, I'm not complaining about that, just make the games better...

IMO, there's two that are better than all these (except maybe Beat Saber), Thrill of the Fight and AUDICA.
