Over the course of my visit at the Sonic Boom booth at E3, I had the great opportunity to meet with the CEO of Big Red Button Entertainment, Bob Rafei. Bob took the time to walk us through the demo of his studio’s latest game, Sonic Boom. While showing off Sonic’s latest multiplayer based adventure I asked Bob a few questions regarding his decision to use CryEngine for a Sonic game and what sorts of challenges they encountered bringing such a tool to the Wii U. Turns out the studio had to get a little innovative to bring their vision into reality as CryEngine didn’t support the Wii U’s second screen.
Check out the full interview in the video below. Sonic Boom will be coming to the Wii U this November.
Here are some classic Sonic designs that could replace the controversial original debuted in Paramount's latest trailer.
Just scrap the whole thing. Nobody wants a Sonic movie, especially the fans. Hollywood rarely gets game movies right.
How can any studio executive look at the time tested and proven Sonic designs over the years and come up with that monstrosity
Just look how how the Detective Pikachu movie successfully adapts so many of Pokémon to the big screen to mostly everyone’s visual pleasure.
Why would you deviate from that? The blueprint is already in front of you!
Eh, people are going to find a way to bash it IMDB style no matter what. I personally rarely pay attention to those kind of sites since taste differs anyways.
the only people who are goin towatch this is toddlers with their parents. no need to get too elaborated about this project.
The Sonic Boom series get a lot of flack from the Sonic and gaming community at large. And in a lot of ways that's very much earned. But not all is bad when it comes to Sonic Boom games if you're willing to step around (or forgive) Rise of Lyric.
The Sonic Boom games have all been bad. Some gave Fire & Ice a shot, hoping for a revival, but things haven't changed.
I hope Sega stops producing Sonic Boom games. The TV show is great though
It's very possible. Not every dev. is willing to, I suppose.
You can't talk about the api unfortunately. Like he said the frame buffer has to be setup differently and the shaders are just coded differently. Otherwise no problems. It really is too bad ea got to crytek before nintendo could. Nintendo needed a tech head start in the beginning but wow they are catching up fast. I never seen anything like zelda before. Mario kart 8 is also jaw dropping.
The best thing I could tell you is.... if you can code if you are in a gaming school... sign up to get a wiiu devkit. It's a great learning platform also. One of the few that will making you think to shine. Which means a higher reward a lot of times.
Sounds like these guys are putting a great deal of effort into making this game work as best as possible.
I have not heard anything good about this game as far as gameplay and pacing. It is cool that they are using the cry engine, but from all the podcasts and reviews ive seen from the e3 show floor everyone is saying the game is still being optimized and was very rough in terms of performance.
Hopefully they can tighten it up and show other devs that the cry engine is viable.
