You pander to the young, you get a young audience. People then wonder why games still are often times looked at as a kid's thing from those not in the know. When Pewdiepie, and to a less extent Tobuscus, are seen as the kings of Youtube gaming - a strong arm of the gaming scene as a whole - well, you get what you get.
