"In a recent interview with Hideo Baba, the producer of the Tales franchise, it was revealed that currently there are absolutely no plans to release the Tales franchise on the Wii U currently" -- Nintendo Enthusiast.
Hm... I wonder which platform Tales will end up leading on. The most logical platforms would seem to be Nintendo's, but they seem to be focusingmon the Vita, of all things.
Maybe the PS4s architecture will make development easier, but I wonder if that will fully offset the increased development costs.
And are they finally done with the PS3?
Regardless, so long as future games aren't Xobox3 exclusives, I'm a happy Tales of Fan. In the coming year alone we're getting Hearts R, Xillia 2 and Zestira. And we just got Xillia and Symphonia. Its almost hard to remember those terrible old days when Tales Of had no real Western presence and its fans so little cause for hope.
Tales of is quite popular in Japan and Vita happens to be popular there as well, so it makes a lot of sense to have some focus on Vita. Why they would ignore 3DS when JRPGs are doing so well on the thing in the east AND west is beyond me though.
They did a port of Abyss when 3DS first came out and as far as I know it wasn't a huge seller, so now they're not bothering. Which is dumb because since then, Shin Megami Tensei, Etrian Odyssey and Bravely Default have become famous for their success on 3DS.
@Otaku Just for kicks I decided to check VGchartz just to see if it was true and sure enough, outsold the PS2 version by a small margin. But to be fair, the numbers for the PS2 version are only for Japan. The 3DS game sold a lot less in Japan, but it made up for it in the other regions. And that's assuming that the VGchartz numbers are accurate.
