Sexism in Video Games - Is it real, and if so, how can we fix it?

While the majority of E3 has been about games – how they control, what they look like, and how fun they are – there has, unfortunately, been a concern brewing within the bowels of the event, and that concern is the representation of women in video games.

No it's not real... can't fix something that's in people's imagination... it's called seeing something that's not there... some people call that 'Mental Illness'.

I wouldn't say it's not real. Sometimes you'll find that kind of prejudice, whether it be racism, sexism, etc., in some of the most unlikely places. Metroid Other M is one of the few games I've played where I felt the writing was sexist. You could argue Duke Nukem Forever as well, but that was put in place there to be controversial on purpose. And there are some sexist gamers out there, whether they be feminist gamers who hate men or male gamers who think women have no place playing games. It's all a matter of perspective, I think.

Activemessiah4022d ago

It's also happening outside my window as we speak but nobody wants to talk about that.. oh no.. let's focus on the games because they impact on real women a lot worse.

All I'm saying is problem solving starts in real life at home/work/society where women actually suffer... THEN I'm willing to listen about things happening in computers.

randomass1714022d ago

I agree with you there. It has a lot more to do with people than with the games themselves.

By getting rid of sexist people, and NOT confusing sexy with sexist.
Just because people like that POS Anita Sarkeesian want you to believe gamers AND gaming are all sexist, doesn't mean it's the truth.

I wonder what ugly women rights activist moaned again this time...

The girl from Infamous Second Son is hardly attractive. With that said, I think your holistic vision is moving in the right direction.

Square makes some very weird decisions.

CrashMania10h ago

This is really stupid and just baffling, the explanation for it is also a big non answer, very disappointing.

Scissorman9h ago

they are so going to try to sell the extra content later down the line.

Square Enix has really gone down the drain. Even FF7: Rebirth, while being an incredible acheivment seemed very sloppy in some areas... namely performance. These folks wonder why their games don't sell but aren't putting in a decent effort.

FinalFantasyFanatic7h ago

It's been like that for a while, they've just gotten progressively worse over time, this game is a bit of a monkey's paw situation. You get the remaster, but you don't get the War Of The Lions content in exchange.

They seem to be suggesting that people didn't like the new stuff in WotL, hence it's non-inclusion, but they're probably secretly planning to add it as DLC down the line, they just don't want to tell people that because they think it'll get an even worse reaction. When they do eventually add it, they'll be like, "We listened". Of course, it won't be free though, so they'll still get flak for it. On the other hand, maybe I'm too cynical.

I could see that happening actually.
